People usually do that when their argument falls flat on its face :D

I wouldn't go that far. Way off the mark there.

That's an amazing list of players who actually cost a lot less and score a lot more than Dirk Kuyt.  Thanks for doing the hard work.  Hopefully Rafa will see this.

Kuyt's Stats 2007/8

Games : P14 W6 D6 L2 F23 A10
Goals : 5 goals in 14 apps (0.357 goals/app)
Yellow Cards : 3

Performance by mins played :

90 mins : 5 goals in 10 apps (0.500 goals/app)
89 mins : 0 goals in 1 app (0.000 goals/app)
-30 mins : 0 goals in 3 apps (0.000 goals/app)

Total : 5 goals in 1030 mins (206 mins/goal)

It's not as bad as you might think, although 2 goals were against Toulouse (W4-0) and 2 were penalties against everton (W2-1) so take them away and it's 1 goal in 850 mins football including 8 full games without being subbed.

We're are supposedly a top four club and we are relying on a striker who has scored one goal from open play in league matches.  Something is clearly wrong and Rafa must be blind not to see this.

Thats it Leon, compare him to the mediocre strikers, he fits very well into that catergory.

I'm in a soft mood this morning, and feel really sorry for Dirk after yesterday. I love his attitude, but he's having a mare at the moment.
His confidence is shot to shi.t and it shows - especially yesterday (snatching at that shot that he blasted over the bar and caught in two minds when he should have passed it to Stevie in the middle).
Rafa knows he's not playing well but if he drops him now, it'll be worse for him and he'll disappear. I like Kuyt - I think he's one of the hardest workers in the team. Only Carra sweats more than Kuyt.  He just needs a few goals and he'll be okay. Trust me. A couple of games in a row where Kuyt gets on the score sheet and we'll see a different player. Will he though? I don't know - I can only hope.

Like Morientes, Kuyt is a proven goal scorer but is just going through a terrible time at the moment. And believe me, he knows it. Did you see his face at the end? I thought he was on the verge of tears. This is the lowest point of his career. I feel really sorry for him and like the guy as a person, too. There doesn't seem to be any ego or bulls.hit from him - he just goes about his job. Okay, he's not doing his job -i f his job is first and foremost a goal scorer - but I don't think Rafa is playing him that way. He's been asked to do a different job than the one at Feyenoord. Van Basten plays him in the same role as Rafa for Holland and he isn't doing it there either. Does he say owt? No, he doesn't bitch and moan, he doesn't disappear from the game like a sulky teenager - he gets on with it. You have to admire that.
Rafa likes him because he's a Rafa type of player - closing down defenders, snapping at the ankles, and there's a chance he might snatch one. Rafa's dream really.

He just needs a few goals and he'll be okay. Problem is, once he starts scoring rafa will probably drop him.  :D

I must admit I was stunned to see Rafa pick him ahead of Crouch once again, but part of me does respect the guy for repeatedly backing his man. Too many managers drop a player when the crowd get onto them.

Kuyt is a far better goalscorer than he's shown at Liverpool. I hoped this season he'd do a Drogba and explode into goalscoring form, but it's not really happening, and right now I see his confidence toileting. Maybe a tap in against Fulham will change everything, but I don't think there are too many people outside of Rafa's office that expect that right now.

The sad fact is that our only striker capable of 20+ a season isn't available right now. That's not Rafa's fault, but it's not Kuyt's either. Whoever he plays up front will get tuts from a large section of the fanbase, so for now we just have to get behind whoever's selected and hope they pull their fingers out.

People keep saying his confidence is shot but that all he needs is a couple of goals and he'll improve.  I would have thought that putting away two penalties against Everton to become a local hero would have been just the shot in the arm we're talking about.  If he can't kick on from that, he's not good enough for Liverpool.  Simple as.

But, to be fair, Arsenal and Blackburn away aren't exactly games you'd expect a ton of chances, quite apart from the fact that he was played as a lone striker in the latter.

If he hadn't scored the two penalties, I'd be a lot more annoyed with him. I don't know what it is at the moment, but if a player has a poor game twice on the bounce, people are all over them. I don't remember too many calls for Owen to be dropped or sold, even when he went through some of his longer droughts. He certainly didn't get booed. Are the fans really playing their part in helping him through these games?
