Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is being linked with a move to Barcelona after admitting his admiration for the Spanish giants.

The centre-back has looked set for the Anfield exit throughout the summer and has been the target of bids from Premier League champions Manchester City.

Agger, though, has seen the offers rejected by Liverpool, who are thought to value the Dane at close to £30million, and the player himself has seemingly snubbed City by stating he is in happy on Merseyside.

But in a latest twist, the £5.8million January 2006 signing from Brondby has now surprisingly admitted he would find it hard to say no to Barcelona.

Agger is quoted as saying by Ekstra Bladet: "Playing for Barcelona would be a huge accomplishment. They have the best team in the world so that is a given.

"But I am very happy here (Liverpool). I feel that I have a good place in the club and that I have a lot of influence on the pitch."

This is getting ridiculous. Most of it is sensationalist nonsense - of course anyone would be tempted by Barca. Whoop-di-do. It's a whole lot of Nothing.

Rodgers says he wants him to stay.
Agger says he wants to stay.

Do us all a favour and offer him a new contract.

They have offered him a new contract... but Agger doesn't seem to like the terms...

Have you got a source? I don't recall reading that anywhere.

When it comes to Agger the question must be not the money we get but the alternatives we line up to replace him. Selling him for 60mil means nothing if we remain stuck with our current CB's and a shakey defence.
The price is nothing if it means destroying our defensive unit and throwing the season away.

One point which people didn't mention is that 2 our best defensive players last year ,Lucas and Skertel ,have in their history poor Pi$$ performance and we can build on them having a superb season this year (espcially Lucas returning from injury). Too high of a gamble losing our smart ,cool head ,talented anchor of defence.

There were various reports in the media that contract extension negotiations between the club and agger had stalled and as a consequence man city and barca were interested. Recently in the soccernet report it was mentioned that the club's offer doesn't reflect what agger feels he should be earning...

It wasn't a Harry Harris article by any chance?

All the signs point to a player power issue and if necessary we will sell him. All the players will go through similar dramas over the coming months and years as their contracts come up for renewal.

It may not be a player power issue per se as there's a possibility that the club's offer may be really pathetic... but it really seems like a power struggle between the club and the player...

I can't find the article you mention. This is all I've found so far (from June):

Daniel Agger is looking forward to life under Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, and the Denmark international is even prepared to sign a new contract with the club.

Agger has just enjoyed one of his best campaigns for Liverpool, combining with Martin Skrtel at the heart of a defence that was only bettered by the two Manchester clubs in England this season. Poor home form saw the Reds struggle in the league, but a Carling Cup triumph provided some reward for Agger's consistent displays.

The cultured defender took that form into Euro 2012, producing a Man-of-the-Match display in Denmark's victory over Netherlands, and after 170 appearances for Liverpool since he joined in 2006 it was wondered whether Agger - who has not always enjoyed the style of football at Anfield - would consider moving on.

However, the former Brondby man has no such plans and, much like goalkeeper Pepe Reina, is looking forward to working under Rodgers. Agger currently has two years left on his Liverpool contract, and he admits he would extend if the club opened talks.

"It's no secret that I'm happy to be in Liverpool. Otherwise, I would not have been there for six years," Agger told Danish website Sporten.dk. "I have not discussed a new contract, but if they come with an offer I will surely sit down and talk with them. It's not something that is urgent, for I have contract until 2014, but if they ask I will listen.

"I am looking forward to meeting the new coach. I've seen what he has done at Swansea, and it has been impressive."
