The point about Barry is interesting, in that it confirms that Rafa wanted to play him left side. Given the player has a very good chance of playing for England in the World Cup at central midfield, and given he plays there for Man City too, I would say it increases the probability that he actually chose to go there for "football reasons" as he claimed. I know rafa said it was because of money, but perhaps he was mistaken.

“You never know,” he said slowly. “Football is a funny game. The plan was for Barry to play on the left and feed the ball to Robbie Keane, who would play up front with Fernando Torres. This blueprint had to be scrapped. The collateral damage was Keane, who signed from Tottenham Hotspur before the Barry deal had been done.
“When we wanted to sign Barry, we were sure we were signing a good player with a very good mentality and the quality to play in the Premier League. The priority was Barry, then Keane.”

So the truth comes out. Rafa wanted Keane to play in front of Barry. Didnt get Barry so Keane had to go.
Shocking

Come again ! Shocking how . Because he's being honest .  ???

Shocking because of mismanagement and waste of money. In most other industires it would be grounds for sacking but not in football, oh no.

You don't get it do you.

He wanted to sign barry before keane , Barry was the priority

Parry bought keane first then told Rafa we didn't have enough money for Barry. How in gods name is that shocking management .

Who is still in there job ,Rafa or Parry ?

So Keane would only have been a success if we had Barry, is that what you and Rafa are saying? That is just bizarre but an interesting admission that Barry must be a much better player than Alonso, and in fact better than Stevie as well.

Unfortunately we got rid of the wrong man, not that Parry was much use either, Rafa has now brought in all his spanish compadres and look how well that is working  out for us!

Anyway - Its a cracking interview in my eyes from Rafa , will take as much positive out of it as possible and see the warning signs he seems to be trying to say . Looking forward to having that first 11 back fighting fit and on form and for us to go on a run and the positiveness in the club to come back .

And time to leave - cheers for debate Michael and igor and LFC - feel it will now turn into a Rafa bashing - in fact it already has stated as you can see

Disclaimer - not from you Michael .

Thats the sound of the point going right over your head .

Lost cause .

Let me know when sensible debating Michael is back on the scene as opposed to the high and mighty broken record one .

so as LFC2007 said - Practice what you preach .

I don't know about sensible debating being back on the menu, or 'high and mighty", but irony certainly is.

And conviently ignored the point about letting other people have opinions - would you like me to post what you said the other day in the Kuyt thread about people who disagreed with what your opinion ?

I already did it earlier on this thread but be my guest. I'll have a stab from memory.

'kuyt has been very poor this season and only those who are the most rose tinted or clueless would deny it".

Might not be word for word but that was the crux. You go back and do the real quote and we'll compare. BTW I stand by the original statement 100%.

Never went into the kuyt thread ,but i agree with that totally and i'm the rosiest of rose tinted.

where as i said that the last number of games during our poor period he has been poor but before that he was scoring a number of goals and had a number of assists so hasnt been poor all season - just in the recent run along with most of the team .

No i disagree really , i know he's scored a few goals and that's grand ,but his form and general play this season has been poor .

I'd still keep him in the starting line up on saturday though.

Curious are you saying that there is no financial crises at the club and that we do in fact have good owners who are running the club well "off the field", or does all credit there as well go to the mighty Rafa and his spanish chums.

The thing is Igor it doesn't matter what anyone says we all have our own opinions mate. My "spin" would be :-

I look back to 2006 and see a team that got 82 points, had a run from before Christmas that was title winning form and won the Fa cup.  I then wonder why he changed the style of the team and the personel so drastically.

We then had two years of trying to catch up ground we had lost.

Did you even read that article (in the actual paper). There were some good figures showing revenue from the club from 2004 till now and there have been massive changes. Yes we are in debt but is that Rafas fault? Get a grip mate your anti rafa comments are borderline psycho.

As i said while it was a heated debate - it was sensible to a point with points being made of both sides - that has all change with the introduction of someone .

Do you mean the article written by Murdoch's gang? Isn't the Times owned by News International any more, you know the same guys who also own the SUN? I don't have to read the article I'm just commenting on your comments based on the facts which I have from before.

Finally, I get igor to ignore me, one down only another 50 rose tinters to go.  :D

I didn't say Rafa IS a t1t I said he was made to look a t1t over the Barry transfer saga, just like he was in that weird "factual" rant at Fergie, not that Fergie came out of that much better.
