Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

He's been a revelation. His touch and control have been first rate recently. There have been none of this flipping the ball in the air before he controls it. He's beginning to look like a genuine right sided midfielder. I have to admit I've questioned his ability on numerous occassions in the past but, if he continues to play as he is at the moment I will be a convert.

Always had faith in him and what he brings to the team and the lad continues to show that on a weekly basis .

Kuyt is far from convincing me as a regular starter.

I do admire his attitude. I do appreciate his role in the pressing which helps a lot despite many think he runs like a beheaded chicken. I do love his proffessionalism. I respect and like the man.

And I admit when he plays better, like at the start of the season and right now. Similarly it was fair to say he needed to be benched recently and Benayoun did a great work. It's fair to say Kuyt's season as a whole has been good.

So I'm happy he's playing better and he seems happy, but still, right wing would be one of my primary targets for the next season. Kuyt convinces me without the  ball, but with it, we need more quality. I wouldn't sell Kuyt though, if he was happy with the idea of playing less.

Sorry guys I love Kuyt to bits and he really seems a great bloke plus he does chip in with a few goals but he just isn't good enough.  Sometimes it's bloody embarrassing how he looses control of the ball or messes up even a simple pass. Then again he works his :censored: off and pops up with a crucial goal. I would defo have him in the squad but we need more quality on the right for next season.

Won't make any difference to those wanting him out, rather have some waster like Lemon, Bentley or Peasant on the right.

Most Points (Midfield)

182 fat frank
168 Gerrard
162 Diving Portugese Cheat
129 Arteta
129 KUYT

Most Goals (Midfield)

13 Gerrard
13 Diving Portugese Cheat
10 fat frank
8 KUYT
8 M.Taylor

Not so hot on assists, but then again Lennon, Bentley and Downing only have four, as do Alonso and Pennant while Kuyt is on three as is Riera. So Riera scores less goals, chips in with the same number of assists and yet it's Kuyt that is often described as "not good enough", "only a squad player" etc Kuyt weighs in with an end product which is the whole point, but because he loses control at times and his crossing isn't the greatest, then apparently some whizzy winger like the ones who have ONE more assist and a lot less goals are apparently solutions.  :no  Maybe Kuyt does play more minutes than the wingers cited, but crossing is their main contribution (in theory) and we could sacrifice Kuyt for a pacy winger and find we get maybe the same as Riera out of them.

Ironically Barry has six assists when people on here are asking if we're not better off with Alonso over him, and scores more goals. Delap has six assists, twice as many as Kuyt, should we go for him? How about much maligned Malouda who also has six? Even Ronaldo only has five, maybe most would be disappointed if he only had eight goals and three assists, but how much would he cost?

I think some of the players supposedly better than Kuyt need to start showing it a bit more often, Kuyt has pulled his weight and yet gets criticised ahead of some who do something that has fans oohing, aahing and clapping, but adds up to FA in real terms. Kuyt has a real chance of getting 10 goals this season, given his role on the right I reckon that is commendable and it would be harsh to relegate him to the bench or sell him as some on here would.

he's done ok at times this year, but (as i've said for the last 2 years) i would happily sell him for what we paid.

The player in question was Kerrison, a Brazilian forward who has been a sensation in Brazil, his scoring record is approx 50 goals in 65 games.
The only reason the transfer couldn't be completed in time was that 20% of the player is owned by Corinthians and the other 80 by some media imaging group, along similar lines as Macherano and Tevez.
This meant that the paperwork involved in the potential transfer would have delayed it over and above the extra 24 hours that the premier league had granted teams

this is what red 187 wrote in the new striekr thread

and mick you dont have to be cynical about everything .

Look none of us know for sure so it's pointless even discussing it. We didn't sign him, so it's gone now lets look forwards not backwards. Even talking about potential signings is disrespectful to the players we already have.

And who said this bloke would be a success anyway? Would he come here? Could we afford him? How is the passport situation going to get resolved? We don't really know do we?

The exchanges between Mick and GYBS are priceless.  :D

Just ok ?  been one of our best players this season - had a little dip in form when the whole team wasnt playing well but surely it must be just a coincidence that when kuyt was playing well at beginning of season we were winning - has a dip in form and the team has a dip - now been playing well again and the team are playing well again . The guy may not be as important as say gerrard or torres or pepe  but he is in the next rung below along the likes of masher ,xabi carra in terms of importance to the team and shows it every single week .

He's had a good season so far, all told, and I think Tomkins made an excellent point in his latest column about the importance of Kuyt's goals this season.  People have been creaming over Dossena's two goals--which were lovely, BTW--but they put the gloss on an established victory.  Kuyt's goals tend to be opening goals or late match deciders and that's huge.  With that said, I agree with Sabre that we do need a bit more creativity and quality on the ball down our right flank in many games.  If we sign someone for the RM position that'll mean less minutes for Kuyt.  I wouldn't sell him at this stage, though.  He's got a vital role to play...particularly in big games and he's got the perfect attitude to be a squad player.  He won't grumble and moan, he'll just get on with it and that makes him vital.  We've talked in other threads about how hard it is to have back-up strikers on the bench who are prepared to sit it out when Torres is fit and firing.  Kuyt is one lad I think we could count on to wait his turn and then pop up with some big performances when called upon.

Key point - the ability to make the breakthroughs and/or rescue a dire cause.

Babel and even Reira arent up to it, Kuyt is yer man for when you need to grind out results.

yeah exactly Bob - a bit more creativity would be great and its obvious that kuyt isnt the most creative around and a player to fill that position on the right would be great and your spot on about him staying a squad player and his attitude would be spot on .

Always said he's a great squad player but day in day out, no thanks.  Hopefully Rafa sees this and tries to bring someone in this summer.

Excellent TEAM player, that's the key. Even his bad days at the office he does something, others can disappear including the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney and loads of other big names I bet half on here would happily sign.

Of course we could find out the hard way, buy a lemon or even Lennon and be wishing for someone like Kuyt to pop up with a vital assist (vs Man Utd at home), a crucial goal (eg Standard Liege or several others) or just the work-rate to defend, win the ball back and try harder probably than any other player.

But I'm sure we'll sign a quality winger, bound to since we've had nothing but quality out wide since the Premiership began.............................. whoops  :O
