Made up for kuyt , he has been good this season and does not deserve the stick he gets on here

I'm not sure about performances to be honest mate. I've a fair few watched matches this season where Dirk has notched the important goal, worked hard in terms of his running and endeavour (as always) but done absolutely sod all of note, all game.

In some respects I think that's a good trait to have - but in others it really isn't, and it does pour cold water on the suggestion that he has been our best performer.

(Although you can be consistent, without necessarily being consistently good...)

Fair point jimmy . If kuyt keeps going the way he is then i cant see many having a prob with him - obviously if his performance drops then its a different matter - at the moment he is justifying his place in the team and hope it continues.

I don't think he has been our best performer at all! I do think he has been solid throughout this season, being consistant and good, but nothing more. However, in some games when he played on the right, I just wanted to kill him because of the amount of times the play broke while he couldn't control the ball properly

I think that on the basis of his performance alone, without his goals I'd be totally :censored: off seeing him in the team (I appreciate that that's an unfair statement simply because it's what he's contributed most significantly to the season so far and should be considered in the mix when assessing him.)

I have had the exact same frustrations as you though in terms of some basics letting him down when we look promising in attack.

As I said, I've seen him play very poorly but score which is fine by me, as long as he scores and keeps on doing so!!

Whether or not you think "Dirky boy" is doing a good jonb at the moment (I do by the way), whether you think he is worthy of a place in the team (yep) or our best bet bar the captain at right mid (yes again), to say he has been our best player this season is patently nonsense. Unfortunately, such statements are par for the course from this particular poster.

haven't been on for over a week for personal reasons but after recent displays it's no wonder that this thread is still near the top of the board. can't be bothered to read back through the thread as nothing will have changed anyway in terms of people's opinions of the guy. those who support him will always support him and those who don't like him will still slag him off.

all i'll say is he's just scored in three games running for the first time in his liverpool career i think. whilst that's nothing to write home about, it's hardly surprising to me that the guy's best two performances this season have come when he's played through the middle. hopefully that will continue tonight.

I don't think I have slagged you off GFYS. I've simply said that the statement you made is palpably nonsense, and also pointed out that in my opinion it's not the first time. I don't recall insulting you either, although if you are insulted because I don't agree with your statement there is little I can do about it.

I think the slagging off and insults come from the fact you have accused me of ruining threads and ruining the board as a whole. And its only nonsense in your opinion. that doesnt mean it is nonsense

No, you're right I don't care how they go in. I was just saying it tongue in cheek, but he did manage to hit the keeper for both goals.

So the point is just as valid, I'm just playing devils advocate for the hell of it, no need to get chippy!

The point is valid and it's correct too.

I'm delighted the lad is knocking them in (important goals blah, blah), but I'd love to see his shooting improve. It seems that a lot of the time Kuyt either misses the goal by a wide margin or uses the goalie as an aiming point. They just happened to go in at the weekend.

He seems to be more accurate in some shooting positions than others. It can't help his cause running up and down the pitch all game, so for what we (some anyway) praise him for in his work rate, can also be a downside that it can affect the rest of his game. Not sure what that makes Pennant's excuse  :D

If we were taking a vote for player of the season so far, then Kuyt would get my vote by a country mile.

yea hes playing very well atm and has had a bug impact on where we are atm in the league and in Europe so all credit to Kuyt...
Close call between him, Alonso and to a lesser degree Riera, Reina and Carragher for player of the season so far... but still no standouts performers for us..i'd expect Gerrard, Torres and Alonso to be our best players yet again come the end of the season...
Been very impressed with Kuyt last few games, and despite his limitations, he's been playing to his strengths quite admirably so far... long may it continue !
