You can eep just picking out the points where you choose to argue and ignoring the rest of the posts and thread as much as you want . Its nice and simple for you - The majority of peoples views on this thread and others have been backed up by results, goals, assists, managers ,players,ex players etc etc . The proof is there but is ignored .

I wouldn't mind seeing Gerrard on the right, but I'd prefer Kuyt on the right to Pennant most of the time. That wasn't really the point though. I was disagreeing with the idea that those who don't think he's a 'clown', 'Rafa's Sean Dundee', a 'Kunt' etc., and who think he's a decent player - if not quite good enough - view him as infallible, it's a myth. The inevitable reaction to the abuse and unreasonable nitpicking of his performances (relative to every other member of the squad) will provoke responses in defence of him. And, if I ask myself what's more conducive to a successful club as a supporter; to react in defence of a player against abuse and/or persistent and unreasonable criticism of him, or, to abuse and/or persistently criticise a player to the extent that he is judged by a different standard, I come to the view that those who are defending him are being perfectly reasonable whilst those who are abusing him and/or judging him by a different standard to other players are unreasonable and don't promote a healthy attitude. Optimism - if misplaced at times - is a healthier mentality to have as a fan, IMO. To put it in simple terms, would you rather have 44,000 Heimdalls turn up each week, or 44,000 Barry Belfasts?

You can't please everyone all the time, but you could please a lot of the people most of the time by playing Kuyt less
