Liverpool's Daniel Agger: 'I haven't even thought of leaving for Barcelona'
Daniel Agger says that he loves Liverpool, and that the thought of leaving for Barcelona hasn't even crossed his mind

Daniel Agger claims he doesn't want to leave Liverpool to join Barcelona - even if the Reds miss out on the Champions League again.

Barcelona renewed their interest in Agger this summer after failing to land the Denmark centre-half 12 months ago and were prepared to pay £15million for him.

But Agger, who was made Liverpool's vice-captain by Brendan Rodgers following Jamie Carragher's retirement , insists he is happy at Anfield .

"Barcelona are obviously a big club, but I have never thought about leaving Liverpool, unless they want to sell," he said.

"Everyone at the club is an integral part of my life.

"I have a YNWA tattoo!

"Frankly I don't mind if we don't finish in the top four, I love the club."

Once again for Dan Agger   :bowdown

Nice to see someone value other things then just fame, money and trophies. Not sure I would turn down the chance to play for Barca.

He's at the best team already and he knows it. Players like Agger are unique and is invaluable. That's the modern world...got a loyal player? Add a billion to the value.

Last season Agger picked up the worrying habit of switching off at crucial times and I  thought the same happened on Saturday with Southampton's goal. Generally is very good, but let's himself down with these slips in concentration. Needs to focus throughout the 90 mins. Last season we let in a fair few goals where he seemed to lose focus

Ah Stu, you know better than that. He's Danish. Saying 'I don't care where we finish' and 'I'm not leaving if we're not in the top four' are very similar, yet totally different.

Pity Luis doesn't have even a glimmer of the loyalty Danny has for our club. Great player with a great attitude.

Seen this floating about on forums

The Danish defender has played 215 times for the Reds but has only started four Premier League games this season due to the form of Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger admits he will have to leave Anfield if he can not regain his place in the side.

The Denmark international has only started four Premier League games this season, having fallen behind Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho in the pecking order.

Agger has been at Liverpool since January 2006, appearing 215 times, but admits his time could be coming to a end if he cannot break back into the team.

"If I don't play, and if the manager doesn't think I am good enough, that could make me leave Liverpool,” he told reporters.

"I'm here to play football, nothing else. So if I don't play football, then I don't want to be here anymore."

Manager Brendan Rodgers sympathises with Agger's predicament, but is adamant he has to be fair to his players and select his teams on current form rather than past achievement.

"I’ve always tried to show my fairness with players. People say ‘you don’t like this player’ or ‘you don’t like that player’ but it’s about performance level," said Rodgers.

"If you are playing well you’ll play. If you’re not you’ll be in and out of the team. I’ve got an international captain [Agger] sitting on the bench but that’s because I like to think I’m fair and if people are playing well they play. Martin has been outstanding.

"I think in the run of games he’s had he’s gained confidence and that’s meant I’ve acknowledged and recognised that he’s playing at a really good level."

He has though come out on Twitter to say he isn't leaving and will be back in the team soon.

Would prefer to see him play before any of the other Cb's

Brendan has a point. Toure and Skrtel have been doing well so far and Sakho is needed because of his physical strength and his aerial ability. Fortunately for Agger, I can't see Toure keeping this up, he'll need rest soon IMO. Until then though I believe Agger needs to show some respect for his teammates and be happy that we are so high up on the table. I doubt he said all those things anyway.

hopefully  :nod  we need to utilize the squad better than we have been.
if rodgers persists with keeping the back line as it is then id love to see agger given a shot in dm. he'd be perfect for it imo.

Magnificent club man Agger but all about your time on the park and personally I think he is reeling a bit from the extra competition
this campaign.

I would put Skrtel and Sakho ahead of him at this point and he needs to respond in the manner of the Slovakian who looked out the door
this summer but has knuckled down and delivered.

With Toure also breathing down his neck Agger needs a second wind at Liverpool and to prove himself all over again.
