used to dislike Kyut, but he converted me.
those who criticism Kyut needs to put down your prejudice n look at how many important goals he scored for us.
he got us into uefa cup(last night), champions league (last season after ET), last min winning goals (2 seasons ago when we lose by 4 pts).
he is 30 yrs old n i hope that he retires with us.
15 mil is good for him, but it is can also be easily wasted given the extravagent transfer prices this days.

It's hard to dislike a hard worker who gives his all and contributes something, if only hard work and defensively, in his weaker games. Wasn't a decisive goal last night, 1-1 was enough to go through as was 1-2 (on away goals), but still he did what had to be done and has contributed a lot over the past 2-3 seasons when asked to play on the right and fill in up front as needed.

I would like someone to work with him on his crossing, he can put in some excellent diagonal crosses a la Beckham, another who doesn't beat defenders very often but doesn't get half the stick for it that Kuyt does. He's also somewhat unbreakable *touch wood*, I bet anyone else played wide on a regular basis with any pace would get hacked down and spend 1/3 of the season or more out with injury. Is it a coincidence the quicker players (Owen, Torres etc) tend to have more injuries.....................?

Like I said, noone will ever bid 14 million let alone 5 million and he will stay 3-4 more years ensuring mediocrity.

Those goals he scores just covers up what a poor player he is and when he doesn't score he is just poor.
But he is loyal and DEFENDS from the front which is just great.... :no

I just hope Hodgson plays Kuyt up front for a while and play him in his natural position. He holds the ball up better then Ngog, and he has a better footballing brain than him to work with Torres.

Maxi, Joe Cole or Glen Johnson.

If its Johnson, promote Martin Kelly to RB.

bingo!

Johnson's been really hit and miss as a defender.

I'd love to see him moved forward to a wing position.

Kuyt is average, nothing more. But he works hard and he does get goals and in a team where one hasn't a clue where regular goals are coming from, that can't be scoffed at.

Kuyt and Lucas are average players and I'm quite happy to have them play in the cups or as subs in the league.

Until we get new investment we will be stuck with a lot of mediocre players that Benitez brought in unfortunately.

Well if Kuyt or Lucas are average, what does that make Ngog.

Yes Ngog scored against Arsenal
Yes Ngog scored a couple in the UEFA qualifiers

But surely Kuyt would make a better strike partner for the prolific Torres.

Hodgson just needs to see this thread and were sorted.....  :eyebrow

Ngog has potential but he needs to improve this season, he's an average player but he may improve.

Kuyt obviously won't improve and Lucas may but I don't believe he will improve enough to be considered an important player.

We have too many average players in the squad but we have little money to do much about it.

Kuyt right up front with Torres is an option which we may or may not see but Hodgson should give it a go at least.  Ngog or Kuyt as a lone frontman doesn't work.

I thought Dirky had a fantastic game today and his set up for the goal was beautiful.

Well in Dirk :buttrock

He did okay today well in Kuyt.
Football is a relatively simple game and Roy knows it ;)

I'd say he's converted me too.  I used to think he was a detriment because of his heavy first touch(lead foot :D )  but he works harder than anyone in the team by a country mile.  Always a place in the squad for a player like that.  I'm sure he was one of the more fatigued players coming off the WC, he's getting back to his best, won't be long now.

Dirk is out for a few weeks

Holland coach Bert van Marwijk has claimed that Dirk Kuyt will be sidelined for several weeks after suffering a shoulder injury.

According to reports in the Netherlands, the Liverpool winger sprained his shoulder after landing awkwardly during a training session.

Kuyt, 30, netted for the World Cup finalists during their 5-0 win over San Marino in Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier but has been allowed to fly back to Merseyside for treatment after being ruled out of tomorrow's clash with Finland.

"He will probably have a few weeks off and at 4pm today he will step on to the plane to Liverpool", said van Marwijk in De Telegraaf.
