Lacking natural wingers... Simple as.

Spurs caused them trouble because they had Lennon and Bale. We had slugs playing tonight; Man City had Johnson & Milner...Before kick-off after looking at the team sheet, It worried me. We have to wait a couple of years to have David Amoo developed and 5 years for Sterling & Silva.

Annoys me, that each clubs in the top 6 have these type of players and we don't.

Lets face it they were all sh!t and Roy needs to tell them so . Feck me not one of them had a good game not one . We looked exactly like we are a mid table side . Roy needs to sort it out and i believe he will , but he seriously needs to give everyone one them a kick up the jacksey . NOT GOOD ENOUGH .

100% agree, looked like he was trying out new things in what my opinion was a very important game, not because we needed a win so early in the season and needed points, but because we could do with an air of confidence around the place, lets face it, everyone had their heads down at some point or another in the game tonight, everyone blaming each other.

Looked like a pre season fixture the way we set up, and its kinda true, he doesnt know the team, he doesnt really know the strengths, he does know however now (well he better do) that we cant play that formation with the personell we have....

No, no: Didn't you hear? Certain factions on here believe we've got a team capable of challenging for the title. The only reason we failed to do this last season was because of Rafa.

Well then. Let's see if these "experts" are correct...

We had nk creativity , no passions , no pace , no intent and the worst thing is at numerous timess we parked the bus and had 11 men behind the ball - that's something I would never have seen from us . We were toothless and outclassed . We were set up wrong and got rightly punished . It's a mistake the manager must recover from quickly

I agree with some of that Benny. I have to say I thought City were superb, I think we may be hearing a few I told you so's from Mick as the season goes on because if they continue to 'gel' and build on that performance they're not going to be far off come May. Milner already looks like a great buy - he was everywhere tonight - he's got the engine of Gerrard 10 years ago and a great football brain. I thought Barry was excellent as well. With their setup they pressed the lives out of us the whole game. Tevez is brilliant at the pressing game - he's at the defence like his life depends on it, and the whole match if one of our players beat someone there was another City player there to back him up - somewhat like us in the second half of 08/09. Mancini is singing the 'attitude' mantra as well. I thought they were excellent although me made it easier by playing a 4-4-2 - a mistake in anyones book.

.                       Hart
Boateng    Richards    Toure       Kolarov

               Y. Toure     Barry

A. Johnson         Tevez            Milner

                     Adebayor

Sub: 7 Max
Given (if)
Bridge (if)
Kompany
De Jong
D. Silva
Robinho (if)
Balotelli

Not being funny.... But if they had this line up and subs - They will win the title

Maybe people will realise their expectations are a little high and lower them to more realistic standards that fit our situation .

Not many on here said we would win the league! many said that we will be a steady ship and try to get into the top 4 and I think we can still do that.

People really are forgetting the fact is that Man City spent more than 100m quid this summer.. and that is a FACT!

They have more money than us --- FACT

They have better players ---- FACT

Man Utd have spent more and have more money than us this season. They have better players: FACT.

Chelsea have spent more, have more and have better players than us: FACT.

MAn City, blah, blah, blah: FACT.

Tottenham, blah, blah, blah: FACT.

Arsenal, blah, blah, blah: FACT.

Guess where we're going to finish?

It dawned on me while posting in another thread that Hodgson probably didnt have 442 in mind this morning when he thought about how he was gonna set up, but Macheranos stunt kind of forced him into a corner so instead of thrusting Poulsen into a huge game for his prem league debut, when not match fit he went for a 442 with players who were reasonably experienced, and Jovanovic who has played a steady run of games.

Gerrard and Torres staying means absolute jack sh!t if we do the same as last season. In no way am I praising Roy for getting them to stay if we get the same sh!te
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

I agree, he will not be given much time before media and fan pressure becomes intolerable.

Did anyone see his interview tonight - he looks to me like a man under MASSIVE pressure, stressed to f'uck. If the British media pick up on this and go for him, I'm not entirely sure how long he'll last. We need a good win against West Brom to steady the ship.

I hope your NOT right, because if his soloution to one player not playing was to go for the tactics he did today, i think i got him wrong.

I think he went out intending to hopefully spank city with an "offensive" formation, what he didnt bargain for was that 98% of our players, couldnt outpace a used tissue, and pace is the one ingredient that might let a 4-4-2 work nowadays

I see the end of season "doom and gloom" which briefly lifted when Joe Cole signed for us has descended on the fan base again???

What do you expect ? Despite the fact we have got Torres to agree to "Return to work" (and thats all he has done btw) we are still a club under huge transition and I'm sorry to burst some fans bubbles but sadly there are going to be more games like tonight before we turn the corner...............

I took my 6 year old son to his very first game last Thursday and he embraced the club without reservation, recrimination or expectation. For him it was simply the thrill of being there watching his idols.

Some of us have forgotten what it's like to simply do that.

Walk on .............

We flattered them. The goals were as much to do with our inability to keep the ball and our p!ss poor defending as anything else. All three were easily preventable. In attack, there was enough space there for us to exploit but we didn't make the right choices in our passing or with our runs, particularly first half.

You cant judge the bloke yet, the feckin transfer window hasnt even closed!

Im judging him on the formation we played against Arsenal and tonight 4-4-2 when in reality it was 10-1 like he set his teams up in the past, he is way out of his debt, cant believe he said he hopes we wont be in for a 6-0 thrashing before kick off.  :no

well at least he doesn't ''guarantee'' top 4

   he hasn't maed a t"t of himself either, which Rafa did on a regular basis. FACT

You don't deserve to follow this club, you serpent-like turd. Rafa won more major trophies in his first season with us than Roy ever has in his entire career.

Now suck on that, you pathetic mollusc.

You are one deluded individual. Hodgson is not and never has been fit to lace Rafa's boots and if you can't see that, having witnessed the total lack of control in our matches so far, you've less brain power than even I would have given you credit for.

1. Man-Marking at set-pieces. Only the long-in-the-tooth p*ssheads on here wanted us to play this outdated, inferior and (in the context of this season so far) absolutely disasterous system. You only need to open your eyes and see that it gives so much impetus to the attacker, as the defender is being pushed backwards towards his own goal. All this sh*t I keep reading on here about "zonal marking is W*nk because the players have to make a standing jump" is all well and good until they actually realise that it's much f*cking easier to jump from standstill than when being pushed backwards with the attacker's momentum keeping you down.

The amount of free headers every team has had (even Rabotnicki, I might add) against this utterly incompetent system is making me dread playing everyone, easpecially the scum with Vidic. (What price for a hattrick by the scruffy c*nt?)

Any side that gets their heading into gear will batter us and make tonight's scoreline look like a good result.

2. 4-4-2. It's W*nk. Only deluded dickhead England fans think that this is a good setup. No top side ever uses this system with any sustained joy because the midfield gets cut to ribbons. To turn up to Man City and play 4-4-2, with their steroided players knocking the f*ck out of us all over the park, is unforgivably stupid. (If Hodgson "understands" the Premiership, f*ck it - ignorance is definitely bliss.)

3. Tactics. Where were they? What did we do differently following each of the goals? Why wasn't Hodgson crucified for not making any changes before the 70 minute mark? Pachecho is a God, isn't he? Surely he should have come on instead of Babel? What was he thinking of, putting Aurelio - a defender - on for Jovanovic - an attacker? How can this be? He's clueless, right?

Any decent manager would have quickly realised that the system needed changing after 30 minutes. Nothing we did worked and the midfield was overrun throughout the match. We should have dropped back to 4-2-3-1 with Poulsen playing DM alongside Lucas, and Gerrard, Kuyt and Jovanovic supporting Torres.

4. Man management.

A fat lot of good that little golden nugget of horse sh*t has brought us so far.

Nice to see you posting about football.. Theres alot of truth in what you wrote there regarding the 4-4-2 and our current marking style ... When to comes to the 4-4-2 i simply dont think we have the personnel to play the formation... I also dont think Roy intends to play it regularly hence his decision to focus his buys on players who fit the 4-2-3-1 system... When it comes to man marking, i dont think its much worse than zonal marking.. Only difference is that we now have to work on perfecting it on the training grounds because our players are still used to the zonal system... Our lack of physical presence throughout the starting lineup might add value to the switch to man marking though.. Different discussion for a different thread though...

When it comes to this game though, its hard to defend Roy regardless of where you stand regarding his appointment.. Poulsen should have come on like you said, and i thought Maxi would have helped with keeping possession better too... Roy was too late to respond and ultimately when he did, it had no impact on proceedings..

Good post nonetheless..

The old philosophy of pass & move is non - existence for our squad. No one was coming short for the ball or playing triangles in the middle of the park

Currently getting my Level 2 coaching and getting UEFA B badges next year. Going to apply the academy job haha  :;):
