I can understand reservations about Hodgson's profile and whether he should ever be at a club like LFC but is Pellegrini really any different? His CV is hardly a knck-out is it? A few decent years at Villareal where he had them punching above their weight is all that jumps out.

I see a few of the people sticking the boot in on Hodgson seem to be happy about the prospect of Pellegrini but on what grounds? Apart from the Spanish lads perhaps liking the idea of another Spanish speaking manager, I really can't see much reason to appoint him. New league, new culture, no money to spend. Got Sergio Ramos written all over it.

Hodgson might not be the answer but i'd take him over this guy any day. Why are people so aghast about Hodgson yet have nothing to say when we get linked with this guy? Makes no sense to me.

I more or less agree with that mate. Pellegrini's record at Villarreal was generally solid including two UCL campaigns (semis and quarts) that made it a bit special, but you could make comparisons with Juande Ramos's time at Seville - solid in the league and a bit special in Europe; yet he went spectacularly t!ts up at Spurs. It doesn't mean Pellegrini would follow suit but there's an added risk there I feel, and particularly so given the demands of our current predicament. Another bad domestic season for us doesn't bear thinking about. In the short-term, stability in the Premier League is essential; stylish football and success in Europe isn't. So when you look at it in terms of our priorities, those managers who have established Premier League/top flight experience - Kenny, Hodgson, O'Neil - have a unique appeal that the likes of Pellegrini just don't have.

I doubt that either Hodgson or Pelligrini would be a long term appointment. Pellegrini is the second most successful coach in South American club football from the last 25 years behind Wanderlei Luxembergo in terms of points achieved. i've no idea whether he'd be any better than Benitez or better at making better use of the players in the squad. Until he was appointed Real Madrid coach last year I hadn't heard of him at all but then until Benitez was approached and appointed at Anfield in 2004 I hadn't heard of him, which pretty much says it all. I'd see Pelligrini coming in a bit like Ranieri taking over at Chelski in 99. He was pretty unheard of but he did a decent job there. I'm not saying it would work but you never know in football. I think it's more likely to work than appointing Hodgson in all honesty. I just think Hodgson will find himself out of his depth with the history, surroundings, finance and big name players to have to deal with. I doubt he'd last more than a year in the job, if that.

Van basten would be an interesting choice, i was hoping we might be able to get Rikaard, but if you look at the papers its between Hodgson and pelligrini.

clickliverpool:

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal to appoint Manuel Pellegrini as their next manager.

Reports in Chile now claim that the former Real Madrid coach signed a deal with the Reds yesterday morning following negotiations.

Pellegrini was dismissed from his role in the Spanish capital after failing to prise the La Liga title away from Barcelona last season despite his side amassing 96 points and netting over 100 goals.

His imminent appointment is expected to be welcomed by Pepe Reina, who worked under him during his time at Villarreal.

The Spain stopper believes Liverpool can expect a "really tough" season ahead if Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres leave the club following Rafael Benitez's departure and the continuing reluctance of the Anfield board to relinquish significant transfer funds.

He said: "Of course there is concern about Fernando and Stevie. Not just them, but others, too.

"Any team would count on Stevie and Fernando as big names and, for us, it’s the same.

"Without them, it would be really tough to be up there at the top next season."

Must say I'd be more optimistic with the arrival of Pellegrini than Woy, MON, or most of the other names mentioned. As someone who wouldn't mind Kenny taking the reigns (for now/longer), I reckon a few fellow fans who are open to the return of the king might not mind Pellegrini so much instead.

One doubt is of course how he will cope without a big budget and players like DCPC (diving cheating portugese cun't) But I'd rather find that out than how a mid-table manager who did well in a cup competition containing domestic league flops could destroy us. To me Woy could be the next Souness
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer
