New Manager - Who would you have? (merged thread)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Scott, its a rock solid idea and I agree with you but maybe its more important to Purslow/Ayres that Kenny is still with the club in 1-2-3 years time as ambassador or director of football rather than lose credibility after another poor season following on from this years disaster.

Woy Hodgson is expendable - Kenny isnt.

Nan, its no worse than anyones been saying here, a temporary manager waiting for new owners to bring in their own man.

Could be worse, Woy at least is dependable.

If that's the case Kenny still strikes me as the option though. Let King Kenny babysit the team for a year. Gerrard and Carra would love it, and if Gerrard stays, Torres stays coz they are football bumchums!

Thats what i cant get me head around Scott , Why not just let Kenny have it , stabalise the team , then when eventualy them two go , and our new owners come in there most prob gonna get there own man in, Something dosnt sit right with me . Im sure Kenny would love the job. We all know hes got us in his heart , I just feel hes being used by them two and that snide Purslow, When the new manager is revealed its gonna look like it was Kennys decision him being the football man, if it goes t.its up . who are the fans gonna blame. You will have the yanks saying well we left it to Dalglish to choose, Its stinks to high heavean , cant put me finger on it,
HE WHO BETRAYS WILL ALWAYS WALK ALONE

Its defo not going to be Redkanpp

Redknapp, "I'm not being presumptuous turning down Liverpool, because I haven't been offered the job and haven't spoken to anyone about it. "There is no need, as I have one year left on my contract at Tottenham and I'm not thinking about anything other than being at White Hart Lane next season. "I can tell you I've not been offered a new contract, but that doesn't mean I'm looking to move on. Far from it. "I'm loyal to Spurs, I want to stay at Spurs and I have a contract with Spurs. I'd be happy to sign a new contract at Spurs if I was offered one."

Thank God for that

.Kenny says he's up for it

Kenny Dalglish has told Liverpool he is prepared to make a sensational return as manager as the previous incumbent, Rafael Benítez, agreed to become the new coach of Internazionale last night.

Dalglish, who quit the Anfield job in 1991, is currently charged with identifying the club's next manager alongside the managing director, Christian Purslow. The Liverpool legend, however, is willing to enter his own name into that process and believes he can revive the club's fortunes on a limited budget and, crucially, convince Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres not to leave this summer.

Dalglish, 59, has admitted that he regrets quitting as Liverpool manager 19 years ago, when the stresses of dealing with the Hillsborough disaster took their toll, and claimed he would have been ready to return after a brief sabbatical.

The Scot's desire for the position may present a problem for Purslow and the Anfield board, who are looking at replacing Benítez with a manager currently in the game. Roy Hodgson emerged as the favourite in the aftermath of the Spaniard's exit last week, although no official approach has been made to Fulham. Any appointment of Dalglish, who has not managed since his acrimonious departure from Celtic in 2000, would appease many Liverpool supporters at a turbulent time. With the club lacking the resources to entice many leading names this summer, he could also offer the emotive pull to convince Gerrard to resist overtures from Real Madrid.

Dalglish first became Liverpool manager in the days after the Heysel disaster in 1985, when he took over from Joe Fagan. The Scot, who had signed from Celtic as a player for £440,000 in 1977 and won seven league titles, three European Cups and five domestic trophies at Anfield, secured the Double in his first season in charge and during his six-year spell won two more titles and the FA Cup in 1989, following the Hillsborough disaster. He returned to the game with Blackburn in late 1991 and took them from the second tier to become Premier League champions in 1995 and also had a short period at Newcastle, steering them to a second-place finish and the 1998 FA Cup final.

While Liverpool ponder this development, the man they parted company with "by mutual consent" last week has completed a dramatic change in fortunes and agreed to coach the European champions. Benítez's unveiling at Internazionale is now a formality, according to the president Massimo Moratti, after he accepted a three-year contract worth in the region of €5m (£4.1m) per season. "We have agreed the final details, which were not important things," Moratti said in a statement on the Inter website last night. "All that is needed now is a counter-signature. Tomorrow we will tell you when he will be presented."

Kinell ben lad , you don't half sound bitter . ???

He sounds less bitter than Toshack this morning. Until now he has been moderated when giving stick to Rafa, but the words of this morning have been harsh at the least:

"Rafa Benitez has been very negative for Liverpool, only the owners have been even more negative".

"It was a mistake to give him a 5 year contract last season, now Rafa gets 5M for it, he must be laughing as he walks off, he wouldn't have got that much money had he won the Champions League this season".

(Well, actually it's a very silly decission to give 5 years contract to someone you really don't trust, I'll give him that).

"It's the World up side down, a manager that has been very negative to Liverpool is on the way to the current CL champion, it's the world upside down".

And the most harsh sentence of Toshack

"Bob Paisley and Bill Shankly wouldn't have had pleasant words with a man like Rafa Benitez".

Which is saying something.

I find Toshack's words too harsh, but if anyone was wondering what he was saying that's the truth. I don't just bring quotes that I like...

Toshack sees our future grim, BTW.

P.S.

It's over and done with... rafa is gone..... It's a moot point if you thought he was the dog's boll0cks or not worth the salt.....

Time to let Rafa move on and focus on LFC.... nothing we say will change the fact that he's not going to have a role in our fortunes this coming season.

I'm glad that Kenny has indicated an interest.... if anyone can convince Gerrard and Torres to stay, it'll be him unless the decision is taken out of his hands by T & T. With his reputation, it should also increase the interest of investors in buying the club off of 'em 2 bastards.

We rebuild now and with Kenny in charge, the dim ray of light at the end of the tunnel just got a lot brighter.... IMHO.

This bit is true. I won't discuss harshly about our past manager with anybody.

Roy or Kenny will do a sound job. Aint gonna happen over night but if one of them takes the reigns then I'd expect a stable ship while a rebuild happens. Just think, reinstating a boot room! it can only be a good thing.

truth is nobody knows what will happen. We dont know how Roy will do given our team. Lets see what he can make of a team that has a Gerrard, Torres & reina in it.

bring it on

Right - i was bevvied last night

:D

But tbh i stand by what i said.
It has been winding me up alot all this Rafa loves the club stuff.
Maybe he does, but how do we actually know ?
He walked away with 6 million compo and straight into a reportedly higher paid job.
Why does he deserve compensation then ?
And why do lots of fans think he should have got the full 16 million ?
