I would hate it if we did "buy british", they tend to be over-rated and over-priced. Rooney was a relative bargain at what the mancs paid, but Milner mooted at £30m, MON rating Young at £30m also, SWP going to Chelsea for £21m, Lescott at £23m or whatever he finally cost, Barry mooted at £18m, Johnson at £17.5m, talk of fat frank and Gerrard going to Spain for £30m or more at the ages of around 30+. I'd certainly rather we steered well clear of getting into bidding wars, be it over class or mediocrity, simply because they are made in the uk.

Not forgetting Crouch at £7m, boy what a bargain  :D

From tomorrow's Times

Kenny Dalglish is willing to replace Rafael Benítez as Liverpool manager — but only if the Anfield board considers him to be the best possible replacement for the Spaniard.
Dalglish, who resigned as Liverpool manager in 1991 before returning to the club last year in a new ambassador’s role,  he had been asked to help Christian Purslow, the managing director, to find a successor to Benítez, who left last Thursday by mutual consent. Benítez was confirmed last night as the new coach of Inter Milan, where he will succeed José Mourinho.
However, Dalglish has told friends that he would like the job, although he is not willing to compromise the club in any way by making his interest in the position known.
Roy Hodgson is the early frontrunner to take over at Anfield, with to take over at Anfield, with Liverpool understood to be preparing an approach for the Fulham manager. But Dalglish, who won three league titles during his six-year spell in charge
from 1985, believes he has the credentials and the standing within the club to take on the job for a second time.
Such a move would undoubtedly be popular with supporters, who view Dalglish as a legend, but whether the Liverpool hierarchy believe the 59-year-old is ready to make what would be an emotional return to the dugout, despite not having managed at the top level for almost a decade, is open to question.

Dalglish is unlikely to put pressure on the club he served as player and manager by publicly declaring his interest, but he will inform Purslow and his fellow board members of his belief thathe can do the job if called upon. He can do so in the confidence that few, if any  of the contenders to succeed Benítez can boast such an impressive CV and that none of them can match the depth of his association with Liverpool.

Dalglish has always maintained that he would be ready and willing to help Liverpool in any way should the club call upon his services, but the present situation is complicated by the fact that he is not on the shortlist that is being considered and he would have to forgo his role on the selection panel for that to change.

Not sure if this has been posted here yet... can't be arsed to flick back 5 pages... :D

I don't how true this is but just saw this by lfc7 off the Rattle.

:: Kenny didn't support Rafa going - Rafa brought him to the club, and thought that it would be best for the club if he stayed

:: Having been tasked with helping the club find a successor, he has been weighing up the options based on who is best for the club and who could galvanise the playing squad - as well as who is available

:: After carefully considering the options, including Roy Hodgson, his recommendation to Christian Purslow is that he take over until the ownership issue is resolved, leaving the club in a better position than it is in now, and a more attractive option for a top manager. He is happy to undertake this for the fans and the club, but is in no way doing this for the current owners.

:: Purlsow has come back stating that the club want Roy Hodgson and Kenny as Director of Football, working with him

:: Kenny doesn't agree with the choice of Hodgson, and makes his feelings known. If they appoint Hodgson, it will appear that it was his choice as he is publicly involved with finding a new manager for the club. If the appointment fails, the responsibility will fall on his head and therefore feels he has no other option than to leave the club – which I believe he is devastated about, as we all know what he thinks about Liverpool, but he has no option having asked for the job and been rejected.

If they are not going to listen to him then why bring him in? This was all just a front to appease the fans.

Liverpool FC ready to approach Fulham for manager Roy Hodgson
Jun 9 2010 By Ian Doyle, Daily Post

Roy Hodgson
LIVERPOOL FC are ready to make the first moves to install Roy Hodgson as their new manager.

Hodgson has moved to the top of the wanted list as the club’s hierarchy seek a replacement for Rafa Benitez, who departed last Thursday after almost six years at the helm.

The Liverpool board plan to make an official approach by the end of the week to Fulham, where Hodgson has been in charge since December 2007.

Hodgson, who is expected to be offered a rolling 12-month contract, is viewed as ideal for the role, with Liverpool seeking someone to help stabilise the club after the tumultuous conclusion to Benitez’s reign.

Compensation, which could be around the £2m mark, is unlikely to prove an issue with Liverpool poised to receive settlements of their own when Benitez makes his anticipated raid on the Anfield backroom staff.

The Spaniard will be confirmed Inter Milan manager today with Liverpool assistant manager Mauricio Pellegrino, fitness coach Paco de Miguel and goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero expected to make the same journey to the San Siro.

Hodgson meets many of the criteria sought by Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow and club ambassador Kenny Dalglish, who are overseeing the search for a new manager.

The much-travelled 62-year-old has vast experience having also been in charge at Inter Milan twice, Blackburn Rovers, Udinese and the national teams of Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and Finland.

Hodgson’s stock in England rose considerably during the past 18 months when, having secured European qualification for Fulham last season, he guided the Cottagers to the Europa League final last month where they lost to Liverpool’s conquerors Atletico Madrid.

That Hodgson’s wife Sheila is from Liverpool will only add to the appeal, with the Anfield board keen to employ a British manager after the spells of Benitez and predecessor Gerard Houllier.

Hodgson was backed by Houllier earlier this week to take over, while Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer admitted he would not blame his manager for taking up the challenge at Anfield.

The likes of Louis van Gaal, Guus Hiddink, Sven-Goran Eriksson and Martin O’Neill have all been linked with the job, but Hodgson has emerged as the preferred choice.

Any new manager’s first job will almost certainly be to address the futures of a number of key Liverpool players.

And Real Madrid president Florentino Perez yesterday dropped a further hint that Steven Gerrard is a possible target.

“I think we already have stars in our squad,” said Perez. “What we are certainly going to do is sign two or three great players to complete the team.”

When asked about Gerrard and Inter Milan full-back Maicon, another rumoured target, Perez added: “We still have not discussed new signings but both are among the best players in their positions.”

Meanwhile, Martin Skrtel admits he was sad to see Benitez depart, but is determined to regain a regular starting role under a new manager at Anfield.

“Rafa was the one who had confidence in me and he was also the one who took me to Liverpool, so I can only thank him and wish him all the best no matter where he goes,” said Skrtel.

“I will train hard to show my new coach my qualities. I want to make sure that I will be a stable member of Liverpool next term.”

Skrtel is currently recuperating from an ankle injury sustained in Slovakia’s 3-0 friendly win over Costa Rica on Saturday, but expects to be fit for his country’s World Cup opener against New Zealand on Tuesday.
“It is just a sprained ankle,” said the centre-back. “I guess I can be back to full training in three or four days. It is not a serious injury.”

There's a good article in today's Guardian about how Hodgson and Daglish could reinstall the boot room. Especially now Carra has all of his coaching badges too.

Could mark a return to an interntal coaching structure..something we've lacked since Souness ripped out the boot room and threw it into the rubbish.

'Hodgson, who is expected to be offered a rolling 12-month contract'

Nan, its no worse than anyones been saying here, a temporary manager waiting for new owners to bring in their own man.

Could be worse, Woy at least is dependable.

Looks like it is likely to be Hodgson then. I'll certainly be willing to give him a chance, certainly more than most of yous in here anyway.

Some ill informed assumptions being made about the type of football we would play under Hodgson but as far as I am aware his teams try to get it down on the deck and look to play good football. The football hasn't been pretty on the eye at Anfield since Evans was in charge, even when we were winning.

If he does come I hope the first thing he does is bring Brede Hangeland with him. Absolutely class act. Am still bricking it about Torres but if i'm dead honest I think we can live without Masch because half decent defensive Centre-mids are ten a penny. fingers crossed he will be the only big player to leave the club this summer.

i'm not so sure Nan. Why bother getting Kenny involved if you are simply going to over rule him? It would risk Kenny walking out and adding to their woes.

Personally, i think Kenny will bring in the person who he thinks is right. He won't go for a European coach, simply because that's the trend.

If that's the case Kenny still strikes me as the option though. Let King Kenny babysit the team for a year. Gerrard and Carra would love it, and if Gerrard stays, Torres stays coz they are football bumchums!

Not sure how you've got to that conclusion Sange? Kenny has been asked to find us a new manager, not to be the new manager. There's nothing to suggest he's being (or has been) over-ruled aside form the usual conjecture and efforts to blindly pin the tail on the donkey's :censored: by the clueless idiots in the press.
