And that is my worst fear Bav , it would break my heart mate ,

There are 2 issues here:

1. Kenny the man. First day of the season, 5 minutes before kick off Kenny walks onto the pitch by himself. Silence  reigns, Kenny looks into the eyes of the crowd, lets the stadium know who the new gaffer is.  Instant credibility.

2. Kenny the manager. Knows none of Rafa's/modern managers methods - the training scheme, the endless hours of fitness tests, diet analysis, player videos, etc.. the ethos that was Rafa. One of the great services Rafa did was to drag us into the modern game - kenny is way out of touch. Spend 50 million - on who, Kenny?

I cant see how it would be good for the great man, he IS THE MAN, but its like asking Bobby Charlton to take over from Whiskeynose, its fantasy.

I spent an afternoon in the company of the great man about 6 weeks ago (when all the chat about Rafa was well underway) and asked him outright if he would want the managers job.

To quote the man he would "babysit for a while and until such time as a more suitable permanent replacement was sourced".

So...I think it's fanasy to think that Kenny will take over full-time although, with the chat about takeovers etc being months and maybe years, perhaps he might need to babysit for some time.... :Oo:

Liverpool FC need manager, not caretaker manager says John Barnes

Jun 6 2010

Liverpool FC legend John Barnes believes the club must quickly put their faith in a new manager to ensure stability.

Managing director Christian Purslow and club legend Kenny Dalglish have begun the search for Rafa Benitez’s replacement after the Spaniard left the club by mutual consent on Thursday.

Dalglish has himself been tipped as a potential replacement - possibly on an interim basis while owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks look to sell Liverpool FC.

But former Liverpool FC winger Barnes said: "Whoever comes in should come in now and say ’I’m the manager of Liverpool’ - not short term, and you can’t really say long term because as a manager you know two years and you’re not going to be there.

"I think Kenny would do a fantastic job, but I’ve no idea (whether he wants to go back into management)."

With limited funding available, Barnes admits the incoming manager must get the best out of a Liverpool FC squad whose lack of depth was exposed in last season’s seventh-place finish in the Barclays Premier League.

"The new manager has got to be someone who can come in and work with the existing squad," he said.

"I hope Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres stay because I think they’ve been our best players."

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez believes his fellow Spaniard is assured of a place in Anfield history - and sees his departure as an indication of the heightened expectations in football.

Benitez’s six-year tenure ended in a disappointing 2009/10 campaign in which the Reds were eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage as well as crashing five places from the previous year’s league position.

But the Reds won the European Cup and FA Cup as well as reaching another Champions League final in Benitez’s first three years in charge.

Martinez said: "In any club with the expectation of Liverpool - or Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid - you start to accept that nothing will surprise you.

"I think Rafael Benitez will look back at his time at Liverpool, I think the fans and the players will do the same, and it has been an extremely successful period," he said.

"In football these days there are many reasons (why managers leave), with the ownerships and the situation at a club, and I think we are starting to get used to these sorts of situations.

"I think everyone will agree that Rafael Benitez brought huge success in Europe, bringing the Champions League and taking the team to another final.

"He is going to be part of their folklore and their history and that is the way it should be."

I seriously don't think Sven would be a bad option, it's no secret that he loves the old liverpool way (boot room) he come over to us in the early 80's to see how we went about our buisness.

Give me him over Martin O'neil anyday.

I agree.

But Sven is Redknapp material and is a high mantinence manager.

I just don't buy the idea that Dalglish would have O'Neill on a list. He left Celtic in 2000 when O'Neill was appointed. They don't share the same footballing ideas or tactics. If he is on the list then I'm guessing the other three are Hodgson, Van Gaal and someone else probably from abroad.

Maybe it will be someone no-one has mentioned. I wouldn't say no to someone like Domenech, Deschamps or Blanc. Anyone with fresh ideas should be welcomed.

I reckon Harry Redknapp is on the list
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Well if we are talking of starting again from scratch with limited funds . I think Holloway might be the answer . He's young , he's passionate and he's defo a man of the people .
Anyway here's his track record.

Bristol Rovers

Holloway took over a club that was struggling both on and off the pitch. In his first season in charge of Rovers, he led the club to 17th place in Division Two (now League One). The next season, however, Bristol Rovers gained fifth place and made the playoffs. Despite taking a first-leg advantage of 3-1 against Northampton Town, Rovers subsequently lost 3-0 in the second leg and went out 4-3 on aggregate in the semi-finals. The 1998-99 season ended with a somewhat disappointing 13th place. Holloway retired as a player following that season, having played more than 400 matches for Bristol Rovers, to concentrate fully on management. In 1999-2000, his last full season at the club, Rovers finished 7th, narrowly missing the play offs.

Queens Park Rangers

In February 2001, midway through the 2000-01 season, Holloway was appointed manager of QPR, where he was given the task of keeping the team in Division One. He failed to do so, as QPR finished second from bottom and were relegated to the third level for the first time in 34 years. Despite the relegation, Holloway stayed on and rebuilt the side. After steadying the ship in 2001-02, and a near miss in 2002-03, Holloway and QPR were promoted back to the second level in 2004, finishing second behind Plymouth Argyle.

Holloway's first full season in The Championship ended with a respectable 11th place, and during the following season 2005-06, the club continued to hover around mid-table.

Ian Holloway was suspended (sent on gardening leave) as manager by Queens Park Rangers on 6 February 2006. The reason given by the Q.P.R board was that the constant rumours linking Holloway to the vacant managerial position at Leicester City were causing too many problems for the club.[1] As it turned out, the Leicester job went to Rob Kelly, and QPR went on to finish 21st, just one place above the relegation positions.

Plymouth Argyle

On 28 June Holloway became the manager of Plymouth Argyle, and promised to take the club to the Premier League.[2] On 12 August after Plymouth beat Sunderland away 2-3; in celebration of his first away win as manager, Holloway offered to buy every one of the 700 fans who made the 805-mile (1,296 km) round trip a drink: "Anyone who travelled up there please send me a letter. I would love to buy you a drink.".

Following press speculation, on 21 November 2007, Holloway submitted his resignation to the Plymouth Argyle board, with speculation that he was about to be offered the vacant managerial position at Leicester City.[4] The Plymouth board issued a statement saying he was still employed by Plymouth and tied legally to his contract, and the board's decision on whether or not to accept his resignation would be made on Friday, 23 November. Having agreed a compensation package for his services, he was announced in a press conference by Milan Mandaric' as Leicester manager on 22 November, signing a three and a half year contract. His departure, however, was met with negativity from Argyle fans

After an open top bus tour in Blackpool, after his Blackpool side won promotion to the Premier League some three years later, Holloway said
“ I had a year out of football and had to think about what went wrong in my life. I was given some decent values from my mum and dad in our council house and one of them was honesty and trust and loyalty, and I forgot to do all that at Plymouth. I left them and I made the biggest mistake of my life. But I ended up here and it was the best thing I have ever done. ”

Leicester City

Holloway made history when he became the first Leicester manager in over 50 years to win his first league game in charge, beating Bristol City 2-0.

On 7 February 2008, in a build up to a match against Plymouth at the Walkers Stadium, Argyle chairman Paul Stapleton spoke negatively of Holloway for allowing several high-profile players to leave the club before joining Leicester. A total of five players left Plymouth in the January transfer window, which he claimed was all Holloway's fault.[8] Holloway, stunned by the claims, had his lawyers look at the statements, while Mandaric' accused Stapleton of "sour grapes" over Holloway's move to Leicester, saying Plymouth Argyle should be thankful for what he had achieved during his time there.[9] Plymouth won the match 1-0 as Holloway's former charges came back to haunt him.[10] Winning just nine out of 32 games, Leicester were relegated from the Championship on 4 May 2008.

On 23 May 2008, following the club's relegation, Holloway and Leicester City parted company by mutual consent. Reflecting on his time at Leicester, he said "Leicester City is a marvellous club and I am as devastated as anybody that this great club suffered relegation. I gave 100% to the cause but unfortunately we ran out of time. The fans here are a different class and deserve a lot, lot better. I'd like to wish everyone connected with Leicester City well for the future - the club will always remain close to my heart.

Blackpool

On 21 May 2009, it was reported that Holloway was set to be announced as the new manager of Blackpool following the departure of their caretaker manager Tony Parkes. The appointment was confirmed later the same day with Holloway signing a one-year contract with Blackpool.[12] His first league game in charge of the Seasiders was a 1-1 draw with his former club Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on 8 August 2009, the opening day of the 2009–10 season. Nine months later, he guided the club to the Premier League after winning the play-offs following a sixth-placed finish in The Championship, becoming only the second Blackpool manager (after Les Shannon in 1970) to win promotion in his first full season. Aside from seeing his children born, Holloway described the achievement as the best moment of his life.

That was because MON wanted Dalglish out.  He didnt want to take the job with Dalglish being above him possible undermining him.

I say get Rijkaard!!
