WIGAN ATHLETIC VS LIVERPOOL - Monday 08/03/10 20:00

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby Owzat » Wed Mar 03, 2010 7:57 am

Yet another 'must win' game, Wigan are on just 25 points and one point above the drop zone with only a couple of goals GD advantage over Hull in 18th

Liverpool have only played Wigan NINE times, never lost BUT a draw at Anfield in 07/08 was followed by a draw at the JJB last season, a draw that came at a time when Liverpool's title challenge came off the rails.

LAST SIX FORM (PREMIERSHIP)

Liverpool (overall) : WDLWWD
Wigan (overall) : LDDDLL

Liverpool (away) : DLDDWL
Wigan (home) : LDDLDL

So Wigan have drawn three and lost three of their last six, regardless whether at home or just last six games. Our overall form is sustained by our home form, our last away (league) win was at Villa Park back in December (29th)

This is the same Wigan that won 2-0 at Villa Park first game of the season, beat Chelsea 3-1 at the JJB and won 3-1 at Turf Moor, where Burnley have beaten Man Utd and lost only three times all season. Those three notable wins came by the end of October, they've only won three times since and been stuffed 1-9 by Tottenham

Reason to get out the house and into the boozer though!!

I have said previously on another thread that as long as we are in the Europa League then Sunday/Monday games will see us always playing catch up on our rivals. OK so we're the most experienced of the Top 4 challengers and you would think the best placed to cope with the pressure of playing catch up but I would much rather be playing Saturday's and getting the points on the board.

one things for sure the match thread will be alot more lively this week :D

with three other teams fighting the the last CL place i think its safe to say every game from now till the end of the season is a must win game.

slowly but surely things are picking up on the pitch and with the return of Torres and Yossi long may it continue.

come on Redmen.

if you assume we won't win at the mancs or chelsea at home, then we need to win every game imo  :D

We should win comfortably but apart from three coasting wins early in the season vs Stoke, Hull and Burnley, how many games have been that easy or comfortable? We should have beaten pompey don't forget..............................

And cut it out DrPepe, no spoilers! Although it could as easily be Kuyt 20 mins, 45 minutes of huffing and puffing and sitting back defending the lead before Rafa brings on Benayoun for Riera, then 15 more minutes of huffing and puffing and defending the lead before an unmarked Scotland header from a corner draws it level just a few minutes after Torres has been taken off with N'Gog coming on for him. Liverpool then wake up, push forward but can't break down resolute Wigan defending.

But apparently "our decline is exaggerated"

It's bad for so many reasons, you want games to be at the weekend not the start of the next one. Unfortunately in Euro Disney League weeks we will be prime targets for Monday nights, although this week surely it could be Saturday or Sunday given we had no midweek (club) match
