LIVERPOOL VS WIGAN ATHLETIC - 12 february 2011, ko: 15:00

Liverpool Football Club - Games

This is another tough game as Wigan are fighting relgation. They may just park the bus so to speak.

Anyway, the formation in the previous two games has proved to be very effective. Wonder whether we'll stick with this or change to a 4-3-3........

I think this game will be ideal to start with Suarez.

Think we'll see a return to four at the back for this one. You'd expect Carra to keep his spot at Cb so it'll be interesting to see where Kenny goes with the back four? I'd like to see Aurelio, Agger, Carra and Kelly but Jonno and Skrtel also deserve credit for the 4 consecutive clean sheets the lads have put together. We seemed to have turned into a defensively sound team again and all the defenders are showing good form so it's geart problem for the gaffer to have. I think Suarez will get his first start playing inside left.

Looking back on the game, if I was gonna rest anybody, Id give Maxi a break. He is playing ok, but he would first to go. Maybe rotate Maxi, Kuyt and Suarez???

And when Carrol comes back, theres another dilema. 2 positions to be fought for.

But i'd be reluctant to change a winning team. Look what happened to Chelsea changing....  :eyebrow

I can't imagine we will change our formation from the last 2 games... We used it against stoke and chelski and it obviously worked, so why fix what isn't broken?

              Reina
   Carra   Agger  Skrtel
Kelly                   Johnson
   Gerrard Meireles Lucas
        Kuyt
                  Suarez

That's the lineup we used in the last two games, but Meireles was where Kuyt is, Kuyt was where Suarez is and Gerrard was where Maxi is.  Move Gerrard over, Meireles and Kuyt back and put Suarez up top.  I think this is how we will probably start.

We start like this and I say we grab another clean sheet, create a few more chances and win by more.  I honestly think if we play how we have been the last couple games, but finish our opportunities and have Suarez in creating more problems with maxi out, we take it 4-0.  Meireles, Suarez, Suarez, Kuyt

I actually don't think we will continue with the 3 CB system. I'm sure Kenny did that to provide defensive cover against teams that posed a specific threat. Stoke had aerial strength and physicality, Chelsea had on paper a powerful attack.

Wigan however should not pose those problems. I can see us returning to our normal 4 at the back system -

Kelly     Carragher     Agger     Johnson

The question is whether kenny is going to be confident ans start 2 up top - Kuyt and Suarez? or play safe and play one striker but more attacking midfielders?

Not a 5-3-2 though is it.

It's a variation on the classic 3-5-2, actually a 3-5-1-1. Where Kelly and Johnson are the wing backs and Meireles has been playing behind the striker.

Don't change the 5-3-2 system..... better let the team gel some more... though I agree with most that we should give Suarez his first start at Anfield..... if fit. If that doesn't fire his soul, nothing will. My head says we'll walk this one...... will let you guys know what the gut thinks just before kick off. :)

The guts haven't been wrong for the last 2 games.... so I'd listen to it again if I was a betting man. :D
