so what would everyone's starting lineup be then?

had this conversation with a few mates the other day and our starting eleven's were pretty much similar. 4-3-3. the defence picks itself. carroll, suarez and bellamy the front three with gerrard and adam in the centre, the only area of debate was whether spearing or henderson plays as the third man in the midfield three.

Was that a really lame pun at flying in the Sky?

Otherwise I can tell you first hand that Sky TV do not broadcast to aircraft!! I wish they did.

I think thats what I'd go with, I expect Cardiff to pack the midfield so having Spearing to hassle them and break up play might be the better option, wish Lucas was fit  :(

How do you play Suarez, Carroll and Bellamy in a front 3 ?

I cant see us ever doing that tbh and it will most likely either be a 4-4-2 with Suarez and Carroll upfront or a 4-2-3-1 with one of Carroll/Suarez starting.

Personally, I'd bench Carroll for this one. The pace of Bellamy, linkup play of Kuyt and dribbling of Suarez would cause the Cardiff defense plenty of trouble. They dont have the quickest of defenders and I'm sure they'd much rather come up against Carroll than they would Suarez or Bellamy.

Another advantage of going 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3- ahead of the usual 4-4-2 is that our right midfield problem wouldnt come into play. Everytime we've played Henderson there he's had a bad game and none of our players seem comfortable playing the role.

I'd go with this.

                              Reina
Johnson          Skrtel          Agger           Enrique

                  Spearing         Adam

   Kuyt                    Gerrard               Bellamy

                             Suarez

If things arent working out from an attacking standpoint then we can change the game around by bringing on both Carroll AND Downing in a double sub and change to a more direct 4-4-2. Probably at the expense of Kuyt and Adam/Spearing.

No room for sentiments here. The best performers throughout the season for me dont include Carra, Henderson, Downing and Carroll

id like to see the following.
                                          reina.
          johnson        skyrtel              agger      enrique.

                                       adam.
              bellamy                                  downing.
                                    gerrard.
                            carroll           suarez.
a front 3 of gerrard carroll and luis with downing and bellamy providing the width.

suarez plays wide in a front three for uruguay. against brighton he did most of his best work from wider areas on the pitch. infact he probably pulled out wide more times during that game than any other game i've seen for us. bellamy has played wide for the best part of two years now on occasions, even for city and cardiff, who had chopra and bothroyd upfront.

Not saying we should play 4-3-3, but to try and answer your question how about (off the top of my head).

.                              Reina

.Johnson         Skrtl            Agger        Enrique

.          Henderson    Gerrard     Adam

.       Suarez            Carrol            Bellamy

No disrespect to Cardiff but I think they'd find it hard to contain that line up.

I dont think theres any chance we'll ever see Suarez played as a wide player in a significant game. To be honest, its a waste of his talent. Asking our best attacking option to track back and significantly limiting his options in terms of runs/space doesnt make any sense to me.

Regarding what stmichael said about Uruguay, almost everytime I've seen him play for them he's played centrally which I found interesting. Cavani is usually played down the right wing and Forlan usually plays a more withdrawn second striker role. The only side I can see him playing a wide role for without detriment to the defensive side of things is perhaps Barcelona. And even then he'd be asked to press the ball non-stop higher up the pitch which again I'm not sure he'd do.

Regarding Woof's lineup, thats something we've tried more than once this season when Carroll and Suarez have both been on the pitch. On paper you might want to modify it to look like that but in reality what happens is that when the opposition is on the ball, Henderson drifts wider to cover the opposition leftback and we essentially end up with a 4-4-2 with Henderson and Bellamy the wide men.

I have no doubts Bellamy could do a job down the left, he has the work ethic for it and has experience playing the role for multiple clubs like st. mentioned but I dont see us trying Suarez there unless something drastic happens.

That said, I expect all 3 to start against Cardiff but in a 4-4-2.

That was the exact lineup I was thinking, expect possibly switching Bellamy and Downing from left to right, although either way works for me.

Well lads, I think the back five and the front three pick themselves, and I think we'll see a 4-4-2 for sure.

The interesting questions regard the last 3 positions.

RM - Hendo or Kuyt?
LM - Bellamy or Downing?
CM - Spearing or Adam?

None of those are easy. I'd not be too unhappy whatever Kenny decides. My vote would be for Kuyt - he's a big game player and links up well with Johnson. I think Adam just about shades Speaing although we may need someone to tidy up a the back. Adam's a classier player, with a better eye for the pass and better delivery. LM I'll side with Downing, just. He had a good match last week, although was awful against United. I think Bellamy will tire over 90 mins and will be useful as a sub anywhere from 45-60 minutes in if required. There was also some talk of him carrying an injury.

Looking forward to watching a Liverpool final - it's been quite a while!!

Looks like being a nice weekend too  :D  Me happy. Can't wait for this!

I'd certainly include both Carroll and Luis. Bellers on the bench for me. Not gonna be an easy game though, not at all.
