part of me genuinely fears we're not going to be able to attract top players. I really hope I'm excited come the start of the season. Not to be a pessimist like :D
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Right, obviously having conversation with a load of juveniles.
You lot obviously have learned nothing from the past.....
History last 20. Years:
Greame souness- with dean Saunders, ronnie rosenthal,Nigel clough,Michael thomas, torban pickniek,  rob jones, Phil babb, glen hussain, john scales, etc
Roy Evans- with stan collymore, Dominic matteo, Neil ruddock, Paul ince, etc.
Houllier, with baros, smicer, Murphy, biscan, kewell,
rafa- with zenden, nunez, crouch, bellamy, pennant, fowler return, ngog, babel.
You dont win league with garbage

That why we having won league for 20 years, you dont win it with average players....fact. Above is just a shortlist

I dont really think anyone is suggesting we go out and buy a load of dummies!

I think you are generalising as well.. the club may not have won the league over the twenty years but we have had success and have won trophies at home and in Europe.

Quite often a first team has been assembled that was as good as anything out there but squad depth has let us down. (the team Evans had with Fowler, Redknap, Macca, Barnes ect had the talent to win the league but there was nothing behind them)

I agree that in the past managers have gone for quantity instead of quality but we have also not had the money to spend, and also Manure have had a golden generation of youngsters go through...

Your list is also subject to debate.... I see several names there of players who were by no means world beaters, but did play well for the club and made a good contribution.

From your list I would say that Babb, murphy, Matteo, Crouch, Ince and even Razor Ruddock were all good players for us, and Rob Jones before his career was ruined by injury was the best English right back in the country.

I would suggest that you do not start a post by calling a whole bunch of members juveniles or implying they are thick for holding a different opinion of you.

Phil Babb a good player for us?   :D

You must be joking he has to be one of the worst defenders to ever wear the shirt, the best thing he ever done was crunch his nuts against the post.

To be honest the early managers in the list could compete with the spending power of the big teams at the time but when utd and Chelsea started spending 30m on players that's when the difference began to tell, so Rafa out of all the managers was the most unlucky as the other teams could well outspend him.

LIVERPOOL AGREE FEE WITH BENFICA FOR FAB C.

Not sure how accurate this report is, but then again, not sure how strong are sources linked to KopTalk? Then again it could be a hoax?

have read some pretty lame stories from koptalk in the past and it appears that they are the only one running this story so id wait till a reliable source confirms it.
still if true coentrau would be a marquee capture for us but cant help feel that we could get as good a service from a much cheaper option like enrique or nzogbia who are proven at this level and in this league.for the fee we pay benfica for fabio we could land enrique and nzogbia and still have a few quid left.

this is the start of silly season where any media outlet will publish any sort of rubbish and call them rumours just to fill the pages left out since the league finished.according to koptalk coentrau turned down madrid for us and david de gea is also on his way
???.yep silly season has indeed started!!

Hi Folks,

Not wanting to be too klinkish but I've noticed that few transfer rumours are filtering there way into this thread despite the fact that we've got a one-stop shopping thread for this kind of thing over in the Rumour Mill.

This thread was originally intended as a place to discuss hoped for summer transfer targets and how they addressed shortcomings in the squad.  I think it still has value if it keeps to that focus.  If it just becomes another place to discuss rumoured transfers, though, we'll look to shut this thread down and funnel discussion over to the thread linked above.
