Well, we need to pick up the three points at the begining of the year to give ourselves hope in challenging for the title.
I'm sure Wigan will come and put eleven men behind the ball, so either expect a frustrating game at Anfield, or a comfortable win.

I'd rest Mascha for this game, he has been in fine form and one of our best players this season. But this game may need Alonso's ability to help  unlock a tight defence.

Here's who I'd like to see lined up.

                            Reina

           Arbeloa   Carra   Hyypia   Aurelio

           Benayoun Gerrard Alonso  Kewell

                         Torres   Babel

Hope Hyypia is fit mind you.

Lets kick this year off with a win  :buttrock

eh.......hoping for manhattan to create the match thread...

Agree with your formation except mash has to be in the CM either with alonso or gerrard.

Gerrard and Alonso Combo doesn't work....it didn't work against the worst team in this league...and it certainly won't work against wigan...

So if it is alonso and mash combo with gerrard on the right...or we either drop gerrard or alonso.

If Heskey is fit and available for Wigan then it's vital we get Hyypia on the pitch tomorrow. I think Arbeloa would struggle big time against big Emile!!

bamaga, it was a fine match start thread.

gonna be a good match tomorrow, and a big win for us im thinking, dunno why, possibly because we are a lot better than them. just hope i dont eat my words.

i would pick exactly the same team as u did as well, but i would bet that that isnt the team that plays

i dont think we`ll see Torres or kuyt in this one, could even see Gerrard given a day off or a place on the bench should i say with a hope that he wont be needed.

rest the top players against luton ffs. we can't afford to be leaving our best players out in a match as important as this, despite the fact that torres looked knackered the other day and gerrard's played about a billion games in a row.

i'd bring crouch back in for this one personally. he's had three games off and should be raring to prove a point. wigan are poor and we should be battering them, just like we did bolton a few weeks back.

Crouch is back from suspension. Torres, Gerrard and Babel coming off the bench in the second half is a frightening prospect for the tired Wigan defenders.

                      Reina

Finnan     Arbeloa     Carragher     Aurelio

Benayoun  Alonso       Lucas         Riise

               Crouch      Voronin

Subs

Torres
Babel
Gerrard
Sissoko
Itandje

i think yes what about you

I fully expect Agger to be fit for this game. I think he might have been held back against City, so he could be eased back in this game. I expect a lot of changes for this game as I noticed Rafa mentioning our players were tiring against City.

                   Reina

Finnan     carra     Agger      Aurelio/Riise

Benayoun     Sissoko   Alonso     Kewell

                Crouch  Veronin

Remember this is the team I think Rafa will pick, not my choice! :D

FFS new year, new life?

I see Bamaga resting Mascherano, Cool Hand Luke benching all the stars, and S@int predicting massive over-rotation. :D

I don't expect many changes, apart from using Alonso so that he comes back to the routine of the first team. It's important to have our 3 best midfielders match fit and this game at home seems ok so that Alonso has 60 mins.

Another 90 minutes for Aurelio so inmediatly would be perhaps too much so we might see Riise in the LB, and Arbeloa instead of Finnan.

Something like Bamaga's proposal, but with Riise in the LB and Crouch upfront instead of Babel.

I don't care if we play bad or well, the three points are mandatory.
