so despite the dross - we need to improve in only 2 or 3 positions to be in the running ?

so what is al the TOSH  for .. lets have a dig cos everyone else is ???

budget? give over, if he had not spent so much on :censored: players or on young kids that will never make it he could have got some on the best players, the truth being that Rafa finds it hard to get the players he is looking for and its not all down to money, Rafa has a rep with players and its not always good, just have a look at the feedback he gets from ex players....i mean the good ex players.

i dont care much for this "oh he had to sell so he could buy"
the bloke spent 20mil on a player that was unfit when he could have got another player for that money.

I think it's about time we did this one again. Since Rafa has been in charge he has outaspent Man Utd and Arsenal. It's a fact.

Rafael Benítez bought 56 players for £228,976,000
Players sold 67 for £153,100,000

Thats around 75 million spent on players not 300 million like Toshack is saying !!!!

Fernando Morientes
Scott Carson
Boudewijn Zenden
Jose Reina

Quite a few sh!t players but no worst than what Houllier bought, also some excellent signings I would say Rafa has bought better players than Ged for 75 million.

I think Benitez is marginally the better manager than Houllier, although I was convinced there was a huge gap between the two a couple of seasons back but it's closing rapidly. Houllier won lots of trophies, and it was 9 out of 11 of his team which won the Champions League. Since Rafa has splashed the cash, we haven't won anything with his team. It's an interesting one, and the team which Rafa was left with would go very close to beating todays one.

lets not think about some of the :censored: that he has signed and stuck with week in and week out.(Fernando Morientes)

You said spot on about the 300 million euro you know quite well rafa hasnt spent that amount, Morientes was not a sh!t player atall but he just couldnt cut it in the prem.

Talk about facts lakes and not just blame Rafa for absoluty every single thing, A lot of players bought where also very young out of them 59 players from under 15's to the reserves.

Houllier brought some absolute beauts aswell Traore, Diomede, spit the dog, Vignal, to name but a few he spent far more than Rafa on dogsh!t yet did never recieve the abuse that Rafa gets.

no you are right......he is wrong Rafa has spent £220mil

sorry cig you dont understand, Rfa has spent club assets, when a player comes to the club the price they come for is an asset, you dont use Net spend, you use total spent.
in this case Rafa has spent £220mil for the team we have today.

put it this way, if you sold something on ebay and you got £80 for it but then with that money to got something for £90 and it was total :censored: you dont say "oh well it only cost £10" no you say " :censored: hell i have wasted "90"

Unfortunately if you calculate NET spend, Rafa has spent more than the Mancs as well. There are many reasons/excuses for our lack of success relatively under Rafa, but the oft trotted out "shopping in ASDA" line just doesn't hold water unfortunately.

You are totally ignoring the £153,100,000 recouped from selling players, why are you doing this?

2007/08 Rafa spent 70 mil

from RAWK   (THE COMMENTS ARE NOT BY ME)
£5m - Lucas Leiva: Brazilian player of the year when signed. Could still go either way but a lot to prove.
Undisclosed - Krisztian Nemeth: Promising youngster currently out on loan in Athens.
£270,000 - Mikel San Jose Dominguez: Youngester plays in the reserves.
£1.8m - Sebastian Leto: Left winger signing but refused a work permit. Sold for £3m.
£20.2m - Fernando Torres: Bargain of the century
Free - Andriy Voronin: Free transfer to strengthen the squad. Plays well in Germany, garbage over here.
£5m - Yossi Benayoun: Took a while to settle but now a key player. Superb signing and an absolute bargain.
£11.5m - Ryan Babel: Highly rated dutch international. Absolute waste of space. Bad signing on reflection, but nobody knew how he'd turn out. Still got potential but he can't be arsed.
Undisclosed - Charles Itandje: Back up keeper signed for peanuts. Now released.
£1.3m - Emiliano Insua: Youngster who is now a full Argentinian international and massive potential. Bargain.
£6.5m - Martin Skrtel: Been off form this season so far, but brilliant last year and a good signing for the money.
£18.6m - Javier Mascherano: Completion of loan deal

Total bought: £70.7m

Cool so what are we complaining ABOUT HERE:

5m - Lucas Leiva: Brazilian player of the year when signed. Could still go either way but a lot to prove. - not an over payment then
Undisclosed - Krisztian Nemeth: Promising youngster currently out on loan in Athens.
£270,000 - Mikel San Jose Dominguez: Youngester plays in the reserves.
£1.8m - Sebastian Leto: Left winger signing but refused a work permit. Sold for £3m. - profit
£20.2m - Fernando Torres: Bargain of the century - but people still frowned at the price tag and the owners showed there intention early on - even though they borrowed the money, so tha banks could 're-possess' him :D
Free - Andriy Voronin: Free transfer to strengthen the squad. Plays well in Germany, garbage over here.
£5m - Yossi Benayoun: Took a while to settle but now a key player. Superb signing and an absolute bargain. - Yep
£11.5m - Ryan Babel: Highly rated dutch international. Absolute waste of space. Bad signing on reflection, but nobody knew how he'd turn out. Still got potential but he can't be arsed. - so took a chance and not woked out
Undisclosed - Charles Itandje: Back up keeper signed for peanuts. Now released.
£1.3m - Emiliano Insua: Youngster who is now a full Argentinian international and massive potential. Bargain. so good signining
£6.5m - Martin Skrtel: Been off form this season so far, but brilliant last year and a good signing for the money. so good signining

£18.6m - Javier Mascherano: Completion of loan deal - Great signing 'No'

So here we are - some good some bad but tmostly good and you can't argue with all of those ay.
