Juventus chief John Elkann has made Benitez his number one choice to succeed caretaker coach Alberto Zaccheroni this summer.  Juventus reportedly held a conference call with Benitez's agent, Manuel Garcia Quillon on Monday night in which they discussed a timetable for the coach's Anfield exit.

Although he is good at tricking us with what he says it doesn't sound like someone ready to leave. I do like the sound of the Real Madrid clear out though, Diarra would be great imo.

Hope this is true mate, out of those who are on the list I like van Der vaart the most, although the pairing of benzema and torres sounds intriguing as well.

They will be wanting a few bob for those two but they are good players no doubt. Benzema was courted by Man United before he tried his luck in Madrid so wouldnt be surprised if they looked to do something unfortunately with their own dissapointment Berbatov moved out to accomodate him. If we did manage to get the lad in I assume we are going two up top or he wont bother picking the phone up let alone discuss a deal.

I spoke to a friend of mine who works at Manchester Airport a couple of weeks ago just after all the Juventus links with Benitez broke and he told me that representitives from Juventus had flown into the private terminal at Manchester Airport (Ocean Sky), and although obviously he has no idea why they came in the definatly did. This was before the flight restrictions due to volcanic Ash. My friend holds a very important job at the Airport and has no reason to make this up I believe him and as such am positive talks have been held between Rafa and Juventus.
I'm sure someone on here will slaughter me with the old heard it from a friend of a friend type gags but I have never posted rumour on this board before but have this time because I trust who told me.

Juventus days away from handing Liverpool boss Benitez an offer he cannot refuseBy Alex Montgomery

Rafa Benitez is moving ever closer to quitting Liverpool for Juventus. He is bracing himself for an offer the Italians believe he simply can no longer refuse — and it is expected this week.

A Juventus source confirmed from Turin last night that club president Jean-Claude Blanc will try to force the issue over the next few days in a second meeting between the club and Benitez’s agent, Manuel Garcia Quilon.

They believe the offer is so generous that it confirms their faith in his reputation and so must persuade him to quit the political in-fighting and financial uncertainty of life on Merseyside for the riches and free rein to manage as he wants in Serie A.
Juve have put together a package which would make Benitez, 50, one of the richest and most expensive managerial appointments in football.

It will be worth £15million net in basic salary over three years and acknowledges the need for the payment of a big signing-on fee as part compensation for the £16million remaining in his Liverpool contract.

Benitez will be offered the right to bring in his own assistant manager/coach and other technical staff. And he will be given an assurance that virtually unlimited funds will be available to bring the world’s best footballers to Turin, in an all-or-nothing bid to re-establish the club as Italy’s most powerful.

That alone will run to hundreds of millions, with Liverpool’s Fernando Torres — rated by good judges the world’s best striker — in their sights. Blanc is orchestrating the negotiations conducted with Quilon, which began after Liverpool’s Premier League win against West Ham last Monday.

These meetings were to assess the requirements of Benitez and determine how much is needed financially to seal a deal. The intention is to have Benitez well in place to plan the club’s campaign for next season.

Also Italy is just another manager merry go round. Every manager there must have managed the top 4 at some point. If Rafa wants to go then thats fine, but if they want Torres they will have to pay what he is worth.

Perhaps if Rafa does go to Juventus and have "unlimited funds" we might persuade him to bid 20 million quid for Aquilani? He can even pay it in installments if he wants.

John Toshack has hit out at Rafael Benitez for his wastefulness in the transfer market during his time at Liverpool.

Ahead of this afternoon's trip to relegation-threatened Burnley, the Wales manager has attacked the under-fire Spaniard for wasting more than €300million on his squad over the previous six years.

During his eight-year spell at Anfield between 1970 and 1978, Toshack won a host of honours including three League Championships and one European Cup in addition to forging a formidable strike partnership with Kevin Keegan.

The 61-year-old believes that Liverpool's 2005 Champions League win earned Benitez a stay of execution with supporters but feels that patience is wearing thin after a transfer policy that has from which he claims only Pepe Reina, Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso can be classed as successful buys.

He said: “Benitez has maintained his reputation with the fans after winning the Champions League, but they are running out of patience.

“His transfer policy leaves a lot to be desired.

“Alonso was a success. It is the same for Reina and Torres, but that’s it.

"He must have spent more than 300million Euros on players!”

Rafa would probably be very successful in Italy, his style is perfect for the type of football they play there. 

I believe it's in LFCs best interests and his own that he moves on now.

I hope we can get the new ownership situation sorted within the next few months and bring in the man with the midas touch, Mourinho!
