The point i was making , was that we all base our opinions on rafa on either speculation or hearsay or what has come out in the media. None of us know him personally or what's really going on behind the scenes .So this was a chance for all of us to get some insight about the man the manager and about all the :censored: involving the owners ,transfers ,the academy ,the future ,straight from the horses mouth . Or one of the horses anyway .

What happens , it gets put down to spin and lies and manipulation .
Not taken for what it was ,which was just an honest interview , that's all .No big feckin drama's ,,no spin ,just an interview . So waht happen's now is what always happens on this forum .Rafa comes out looking likea tw@t and some master spin doctor who manipulates the press and us kn)bheads who believe in him .

If it makes you feel better I took it just for the face value of the interview.  :nod

Now does that mean I believed every word of it I dunno maybe not but like I said who don't twist the truth now and agian to  favour thier motives.
Nail on the head from Igor there. The media get away with murder with the misinformation they spread about Rafa. Tomkins does a great job, but no matter how good he is, Rafa can do it better if he steps up to the plate. Rafa knows his sh!t and can do a far better job of disproving the anti-Rafa stuff Tomkins ever could.

If he keeps on taking interviews like this and putting himself out there (a few decent results would be appreciated as well) he may just win over a few of the haters. If I had Rafa's email address I would be telling/begging him to go and do this more often.
After reading that Tompkins post , I think I now know who supplied all the answers for Rafa's article :D

Foe example he starts it off, by mentioning £25million which was approximately Rafas spends in his first season, but then strangely forgets to mention the other two players Rafa signed in that season....... Morientes and Pelligreno    :D Perhaps because Morientes cost quite a large sum and Pelligreno while a freebie was dire ?

We then had .......

We had a bad run in January and February, a good run up to then and then, once the balance had shifted terminally in favour of the mancs, won 10 out of our last 11 games. The run that cost us was P7 W2 D4 L1 which is 11 dropped points.

Had we lost at old twatford and Stamford Bridge as is the norm, we'd have been third behind Chelsea - 1. mancs 93, 2. Chelsea 86, 3. Liverpool 80. I know that's only an "if", but it puts our terrific season into perspective as hinging on two results to make what might otherwise have been another season many points behind the mancs. And the crucial point behind the "if" is that we can't count on winning those games and so this season was likely to be so much harder.

As for implied "be careful what you wish for" comments I've noted at least one of, let's be happy with what we've got hey!?!?!?  ???  ??? Maybe with Rafa we've quasi guarantees we finish top four and land CL football, but whether we finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 17th, it still doesn't equal a league title. The mancs will be delighted with our muddling along doing nothing in particular with no trophies while they've accumulated another three league titles, cancelled out both our CL wins and finals count and are still well in the title race this season and cruising in the CL while we're bailing out the titanic. Sometimes you need a fresh start, someone with new ideas. No need to go for Strachan or Curbishley, but then suggesting the most absurd or absurd doesn't make Rafa the ideal answer.

And is Rafa committed to the cause? If he leaves because we sell Torres then how is that committed? Maybe he realises all his eggs are in one or two baskets and he's finally dropped the basket. I think it was a foolish statement on his part, maybe if the owners want rid of him with no compensation then they'll simply sell Torres..........................

Or maybe some people are reading too much into what he said. He was implying that Torres in the manner in whcih we are talking about, not that it could happen but he is putting down a threat if they did. I can't believe you are seriously asking if he is committed to the cause.

good post mate. I doubt whether a team has ever come second in the league having beaten both the other top three teams home and away. This was a "golden opportunity" and if we couldn't take that  ....... :(

Owzat I think what you tried to do here was be very progressive by encouraging an open and objective critic of Rafa.  Sad thing is a lot of people here take this personally.  That's because LFC and Rafa mean different things to different people.  The media also are not objective and most of the Rafa bashing is about bashing LFC which means we can not have an honest discussion.

When you put together any challenge and come up short by so little, no matter what team you are, it is going to hinge on one or two games here or there.  However, I do agree that maybe we do need someone with new ideas, maybe we don't I'm not sure either way quite yet to be honest but it is a possibility.  And as for Rafa being committed to the cause, really?  I don't understand the questioning of that.

I'm still waiting till this season finally kicks off, if we can't pull a good finish off once everyone is healthy I would start questioning things.  That said I'm pretty sure we will start playing a lot better once people are back so I'm still backing Rafa to get us out of this hellhole we are in.

 I know just how Zidane feels. I have spent the last few years gradually drifting further and further towards thinking that maybe we need someone else to take the next step, and even then when I first said he should go I was unsure but just wanted to finally get off the fence. FFS the truth is I still don't know if he should go or not. I think Rafa makes too many mistakes, but that doesn't mean I think he is a cr@p manager, just that I think we havent progressed as fast and as far as I think we should have, and I have doubts that he can take us any further without a large transfer fund

From 30 points of the pace in season 1 to only a few last season isn't good enough? It takes time Saint. Does Rafas superior record in his first 200 games to Wenger, Fergus and even Paisley not mean anything to you?

  better record than Paisley

1975-76 League Championship
1975-76 UEFA Cup
1976-77 FA Community Shield
1976-77 League Championship
1976-77 European Cup
1977-78 UEFA Super Cup
1977-78 FA Community Shield
1977-78 European Cup
1978-79 League Championship
1979-80 FA Community Shield
1979-80 League Championship

4 league titles, 2 european cups and a uefa cup in his first 6 seasons mate

Bob's record in his first 6 years, and don't give me any guff about win percentages as the points system was different then and a draw away was a good result in those days.

You count trophies mate ....nothing else matters.

He has spent almost £200million to take us from 82 points in 2006 to 86 points in 2009. Look on the bright side if we need 90 points to win the league we are only another £200million short  :D

30 points off the pace in season one is an interesting one for a couple of reasons Bav. Firstly we had no business finishing quite so far behind, a fact often overlooked. We concentrated quite hard on the Champions League that season for obvious reasons, and we also were in the middle of the biggest rotational experiment English football had ever seen. You're right though, we have definately improved from then, as you would expect for a team which has spent as much money as we have and which has included Steven Gerrard at his peak. The question is not whether or not we have improved, but have we improved enough, and will Rafa ever win us the title?

Now people often quote Rafa's first season as the benchmark, simply because it was such an awful effort in the league and it makes it look like we're coming on in leaps and bounds. The reality is different though. Rafa took over a ramshackle lot from Houllier true enough, but Houllier managed to get them into fourth place the previous season even without Alonso, Garcia and the rest. Rafa of course couldn't get us into the top four, but we were a bit better than that I think. We actually got the same number of points as Bolton in Rafa's first season. Nobody will ever convince me that Rafa's team was not a better side than "Big Sam yeah's :buttrock " outfit. We finished three points ahead of Middlesboro'. It truly was an absolutely awful effort, and lest we ever forget and decide to return to a mass stylothon it is written in stone in the form of the league table for all to see. That wasn't an indication of how bad the team were, it was an indication of how wrong we got it IMHO.

The following season we definately improved and got ourselves to within nine points of the winners (Chelsea). Crucially, we were only one point behind the Mancs at that point (after Rafa's second season). We also won the FA Cup. In the following two seasons we won feck all and finioshed a mile back. Last season we did better, still winning feck all but getting close in the league.

This season it's looking distinctly possible we'll win feck all again, and I don't think many people can see us getting as close in the league as we did last season and we may even miss out on the top four. It is even concieveable that after six years of the plan, the Rafalution, we could be right back where we started from except for the fact that in all probability we won't win the Champions League this season.

Now I know I'm not going to convince you or anyone else Bav, and I'm not trying. I'm simply pointing out that those who have doubts have extremely good reasons for doing so.

I know it's unbelieveable it really is. I've been accused of "disrespecting" the manager on many occasions (even though I don't and haven't) and the same people who accuse me openly compare Rafa and his record to people like Shankly, Paisley and Dalglish. Incredible really.
