Again, couldnt the same be said for Gerrard? The difference being, Gerrard has influenced an FA Cup Final, and of course the champions league final against Milan. He scored the odd beauty but take that away from Gerrard what is he offering? for the one great league game he gives he doesnt give much for the next 3 games. Answer this, and this is open to anyone, give me a run in the league in which Gerrard has been truly inspirational to warrant his wage, his status, as club captain. To criticisize kuyt is easy, its not so easy when it comes to gerrard and the difference is Gerrard is the club captain and pops up with the odd beauty of a goal to get us all purring, and kuyt does the dirty work, for 90 mins of a match, and gets nothing for his efforts. The best way to settle this argument is simple. Watch Liverpools next game, watch what gerrard does compared to what kuyt does.

Can I have my moment of smugness now?  :talktothehand

But in all fairness, I thought Gerrard played pretty well his challenge in the first half was very determined and like the commentator said on setanta was like watching a match from the old days ! Made up Kuyt got a couple otherwise id have looked a bit of a burk  :D

I do like your line about Gerrard "influencing" the FA Cup final :D I suppose if you can call scoring a brilliant volley to equalise at 2-2, and then smashing in probably the best goal ever in an FA Cup final from about 35 yards out to equalise again, in stoppage time to make it 3-3 "influencing" the game then yes that's kind of what he did :D

From the bit about that game, then in mentioning "and of course the Champions league final"  :D, BUT APART FROM THAT  Can I take it that your not than keen on Gerrard mate lol. Apart from that, where's Leon with his Monty Python sketch lol

:buttrock Ah go-on then. Anyone who slagged Kuyt off (me included of course) is a w@nker, and anyone who didn't can give thersens a huge pat on the back.

In all seriousness, I hope he gets loads more goals and makes all of us who've doubted him look like total c..ts, nothing would make me happier.

Lucky? He is constantly getting stick, played out of position but no complaints, and today denied a hat trick because of keeper and crossbar. He had to also play through a bad period when he struggled to get over the loss of his dad. No I wouldnt say he was lucky, id say he finally got his rewards.

Peewee said he was a clown...Dirk Kuyt! Dirk Kuyt!
They always give him lots of sh*t... Dirk Kuyt! Dirk Kuyt!
He runs a hundred miles a game
and never tire out of the game
He's Liverpool's tireless "Don-key" Dirk Kuyt is his name!

He always scores important goals... Dirk Kuyt! Dirk Kuyt!
A goal machine in Champions League... Dirk Kuyt! Dirk Kuyt!
But peewee says "Not good enough!
He loses the ball far too much!"
Always un-apprecia-ted Dirk the Diggler boy!

He finally said "WTF Pee Wee Pee Wee
Let me play my football in peace Pee Wee Pee Wee
Without you always slating me
I'll play where Rafa tells me
I'm Liverpool's Nistelro-oy you can shove it -- ---- ---"

Apparently footballers are supposed to run 8000m during a game of football, Berbatov got stick for only running 2000m during a Bulgaria game!

Kuyt is the joint top scorer in the last four games alongside Torres, not bad for someone who has been stuck out on the wing. OK Torres missed the game, but take both their last 450 mins for Liverpool and it's still 4-4.

Was Kuyt lucky? Yes and no. Both his shots were saveable, rather ironic that Kirkland should brilliantly save two other shots but let those two in. Kuyt was in the right place at the right time, our most potent threat and I'd take his four "lucky" goals over Keane's one in 10 starts. Without Kuyt's contribution we wouldn't be equalling our best Premiership start ever with a chance of setting a new record next game. Already we've won six games and the most Rafa has won in his first 10 games of a season is five and most points in his opening 10 games of a season is 20 - we're already on that after just eight games.

I'd rather have a "lucky" striker than one who can't beg, steal or borrow a goal

Wouldn't knock luck, think it was Shanks who after being told by a scout about a players immense strength, blinding pace and two footed ability said

"aye son, he may have all that, but is he lucky ? "
