GYBS wrote:and as for kuyt he showed his worth to the team end of last season when he ended up just behind gerrard in assists and behind gerrard and torres in goals - and season before when he was top goalscorer in prem for us - add to the fact that both torres and gerrard have already stated how important he is for the team and it was down to a lot of kuyts work that torres was able to score a fair number of his goals. dont think you can get a bigger endorsement than that about kuyt.

I thought Kuyt was shit-hot towards the end of last season. After slagging him off for months, I really warmed to him. I thought he had a good Euro 08 too. He's just not got out of the blocks to quickly this season though, but then again, who has?
As for Riera, I've not seen him play so I can't comment. From what I've heard, he's not too good. I'd of rather have seen us sign Downing for a bit more cash.

Perfect signing - god help us if this is Rafas answer to the left .
no pace? - he's no torres but he's no slouch either
no trickery? - we all know about youtube but his clips show he has a trick or two
no guile? - as above
can't beat defenders? - as above
he's not the answer but he's a better fit than anything we have got. he'll give us genuine width and will allow babel and benayoun to be used where they are more effective - thus improving the shape and balance of the team as a whole.
i wish people would stop carping and moaning and slagging the guy before he's even kicked a ball for us. this has to be the most miserable lfc forum in existence. god help the guy if he doesn't turn in man of the match performances in his first 5 games.

I think its clear that he is Rafa's second or third choice for the left is it not ?
not sure mate - his name has been menti9oned all summer - should of saved 10 mil on not buying keane and getting someone like pavluychenko and then spent the 10 mil saved on getting some like silva.
your begining to get right up my bugle now with your ridiculous comments.
I take it you dont like Keane either then?
oh and small problem signing Silva...

I would concede though that in the case of Barry it does appear that while the money does seem to have been available (which would have meant we'd spent around 50 million in the Summer after the signings of Keane, Ngog, the goalie whose name escapes me and Dossena) the board actually pulled the plug on the deal as they judged the price to be too steep.
Heres what we have spent an re-couped Bigus Mickus.

Yeah I thought it was around that Lynds. The signing of barry then for 18 million ish would have taken our spending up to around the 45 million mark. We may not quite be outspending everybody, but I think it's fair to say the manager is being pretty well backed in the market.

Sell to buy , and not the players you choose ,but the players we choose . Great backing that.

we bought players for about 40mill and only sold for about 20mill or less so far so id say they backed him up pretty well. Not sure but i think we spent more than any other premierleague club so far this season except maybe Spurs.
As for the whole Barry for 18mill joke then im glad someone stepped in and did what had to be done.
