Albert Riera - I know it's early but...Part III

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Bad Bob » Thu Oct 23, 2008 5:14 pm

Many, many apologies folks...I went to merge the Leon and Big Mick threads on Riera and they both vanished into the ether.   :kungfu:

So, would people like to post their well stated views all over again?  Leaving out, of course, the tedious and utterly unnecessary rehashing of the great Kuyt debate.  I won't even mention calvaries running roughshod this time! (oops, too late... :D )

Soz again!

As no one seems willing to re-post their brilliant posts I will sum up :-

We all seem to agree he has been an excellent buy and a good footballer.

Anyone else find this worrying, as going by our past record on judging players he hasn't got a chance in hell of making it :D

In all seriousness, I can live without re-reading most of your views.  I am dying to know what Scottbot had to say, though--Scott, please gizza second glimpse!  :nod

Bah, accidents like that happen in any database. In theory the admin could roll back the database and recover both threads, ask him.

As it turns out, Leon and I both tried to merge the thread at the same time from different directions (seriously!).  The result was a blinding light, the acrid smell of ozone and an unaccounted for 6 minute differential between the newkit clock and the atomic clock that determines Coordinated Universal Time.  Scully and Mulder are flying in as we speak!   :alien:

Was nothing new really. Just to repost up my views of Riera (see below) from a couple of weeks ago and he has done nothing since then to change my opinion except open his goal scoring account!. He looks like an excellent player, I've made my mind up on that although i'm still getting ribbed by mates for completely slating him when he first signed. I've got a big gob so i can't deal with the humble pie and i'm hungry for more (Dossena!? Now i am being stupid!). Like a few others I was hoping and expecting us to spend big bucks on a wide-man. when we didn't I figured Rafa thought everything was Ok in that department which is clearly wasn't. He's the best we have had in the position since Kewell stayed healthy the year we won the FA Cup. He reminds me a lot of Kewell during that season. The comments about balance are VERY valid and his presence in the side highlights just how unbalanced we were before he arrived. It might also make him look (just) a little better than he actually is.

I've been very impressed with the player so far and i'm made up to be eating humble pie because I absolutely slated the player from the moment we were first linked to him in the summer. From what i've seen so far he's a real all-rounder and a proper footballer, he's not a project like Babel or another square peg in a round hole. He's fairly quick, he's a good passer, is pretty solid in the air, has quick feet in tight spaces, can cross a ball and he's an intelligent played who attacks space when he gets the opportunity. We haven't really seen his shooting as yet but my City mate tells me he has an excellent long-shot. The only knock on him so far is he starts brightly and fades as the game gets on and that can only be down to his fitness. I'm made up with him.
