so in answer yes there is a fee big enough.

didn't we think that about Keegan in 77, Rush 87, Fowler 02 and Owen in 05 though? we've sold a few of our superstars over the years but still found a better replacement.
like I've said every player has their price.

I got lambasted by some members on here, one in particular I remember was Leon. The reason I remember one of his posts so well, it was basically a ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha all the way down the page is because as it turns out he was 100% correct, and I was totally wrong. Time has proven it to be so in spades, selling Gerrard for that money then would have been an absolute disaster for the club. (It's by no means always that I agree with the aforementioned poster I should say, but fair play to him on that particular occasion he was on the money).
So what of Torres? I say 100 mill largely for the same reason as you say 75 in that we could build a title challenge with that. Would we though be thinking in a couple of years, "sh!t we fecked up there"? Would becoming a selling club for economic reasons be the beginning of the end? Dunno

Interesting points there, but I still think that no player is bigger than the club. IF given the choice would you either:
A) Keep Torres and the current team- because we have no more money to spend
B) Sell Torres for 65 million and use that cash to buy 2-3 world class players
For all we know, Rafa might have no more transfer kitty to spend….and the above scenario could be a very real possibility. Keep our current team (because we have no more money) or sell up for a stupid fee and use that cash to improve the team?

Erm if my memory serves me right most of them wanted to go
want to go or not it's still up to the club to accept a fee if the player was under contract which Rush, Fowler and Owen were. On all three we were conned. We didn't get the money we deserved for any.
