A man who is barred from entering St Helens without police permission is to appeal against an order banning him from touching men's biceps.
Akinwale Arobieke is currently serving a 15-month jail sentence for breaching an interim sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) by feeling a young man's biceps in a shopping centre in Preston.

The order banned 46-year-old Arobieke, who is notorious across St Helens and many other areas Merseyside, from asking young men if he could measure their muscles and requesting them to perform squat thrusts.

He was jailed in November 2007 after being found guilty of breaching the SOPO following a week long trial at Preston Crown Court, but is due to be released on April 24.

In February, a five-day trial was held at Liverpool magistrates court where the SOPO order was made indefinite.
Arobieke, formerly of Cavendish Gardens in Toxteth, has now decided to appeal.

At a hearing at Liverpool crown court l
ast week it was revealed that six-foot-five-inches tall Arobieke is bidding to get the order overturned on the grounds that evidence against him was inadmissible.

A hearing, is now expected to be held on June 9. Arobieke was given the initial SOPO after being released from a six-year prison sentence, imposed in 2003 for 15 counts of harassment and one of intimidating a witness.

Widely regarded as a 'bogey-man' figure, Arobieke's previous behaviour has made him infamous across the North West.

When released on license in October last year Arobieke made history when he became the first person to be handed a sexual offences order without committing a sexual offence.

Merseyside Police applied to Liverpool Magistrates Court for the order which also banned him from entering St Helens, Warrington and Widnes without police permission and loitering near schools, gyms or sports clubs.
