For :censored: sake whats up with this thread?

Ok so here is your answer. Is there any price for a striker who has filled the void that has been missing since Owen left? Er yeah there is always a price. But just remember "they" wouldnt be the only people to pay something. Seeing as we havent won the league in almost 2 decades I think we will be paying more in the long run as we will have to again go out and buy a striker capable of matching him. Why would you want to go backwards? Silly topic silly thread and a silly rumor.

b) who's to say Torres will continue this form. He could easily break his leg in the opening game of the season. What then? (obviously that's a bit extreme but possible)

I don't want us to sell Torres or even think about selling him but every player has their price. Hopefully those two idiots running the club have just as high an estimation of Torres as the rest of us and don't class 50 million as silly money. Silly money for me is 150 million plus because without him that's probably what we'd have missed out on.

I think if we accepted £200million for Torres it would be a disaster for Liverpool. Not because we would lose Torres (although that would be bad) but because I think you would find Gerrard for one would be packing his own bags before Torres arrived in London.

It would be the final acceptance that we are no longer one of the big boys and next time we have a star player they will be looking around for a "big club" just like all the "selling clubs" players do.

If you meant no player at the club then you're quite correct. If you meant the world then you're wrong.

Maybe, Adebayor was in his 3rd season though Torres was in his first.

2005–06 13 games 4 goals
2006-07 44 games 12 goals
2007-08 48 games 30 goals

Torres scored more in his first season than Adebayor did in his first 2 combined ( although he played more )

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has told Chelsea to forget about making any move for Spanish striker Fernando Torres.

Despite sacking manager Avram Grant on Saturday, Chelsea's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich was reported yesterday to be planning to lure the Israeli's transfer targets to Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old Liverpool forward, who scored 33 goals in his first season since a £23 million move from Atletico Madrid last summer, is a priority and Abramovich is reported to be prepared to offer a world record £50 million to sign Torres.

With Liverpool's future ownership still uncertain, Chelsea's strategy may assume that such an offer would be impossible to turn down.

But Hicks told The Daily Telegraph in an email yesterday that no amount of money could persuade them to part company with Torres.

"We would never consider it," he said.

When asked whether he believed Chelsea were using the Torres story to deflect attention from the fall-out from Grant's sacking and to destabilise a rival, he replied, "absolutely".

I'd sell for 65, even if we get two players for 30 million in exchange and neither aren't as good as Torres (but are NOT complete Shevchenko type busts) it will make the team better because nobody will be able to say we rely to much on Gerrard and Torres, the threats will be more spread out and hence make the TEAM stronger.
