Paisley never won the Scottish Prem , Souness did. Seems obvious to me who the better manager was.

Paisley never managed in Turkey either  :D

Long live Souey (greatest manager we've seen)
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

but should the new man not win the league immediatly he will be hounded out, and have no chance of seeing his plans through to fruition.

No mate , its not a case of having to win the league ,just showing us we were making progress every year would be enough to satisfy most people.

I don't really agree with these sort of threads, it would be better for everyone if people could wait until the end of the season really.

I would go for Mourinho. He is available, has show he can motivate players and get good results with money and without. Has a good record both in Europe and domestically. I f he has a problem its that he motivates his teams so well for the bread and butter competitions that they can't raise their game by much for the important one off games. As I am more interested in winning the league however that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

He get the best out of his players (something Rafa struggles with), and while his style of football may not be as attractive as the mancs or Arsenals, neither is what we are being served up every week at the moment.

Apart from being a good motivator, he takes the pressure off players and like Shankly believes his team is the best no matter who they are playing.

Unfortunately I don't think he is very astute in the transfer market, but maybe he was at Porto? Certainly he always seemed to be happy paying well over the odds while at Chelsea.

Proven track record in two countries.
Gets the best out of players
Creates a team rather than 11 talented individuals
Has a big enough profile to keep our players happy and at the club, while still attracting players to the club.
Probably still has something to prove in England and so wont be resting on his laurels and past achievements.
Seems to achieve success quickly and more importantly maintain it at least in the short term.
Seems to have the ability to learn from his mistakes rather than stubbornly refusing to change.

If we want the best available it has to be Mourinho, who has won every domestic competition in England and managed to win the CL with Porto.

People argue that we shouldn't sign him because he's a bit of a kunt.......so is Gerrard going by some of the comments on here, that doesn't stop him from being one of the best players in the country though.

Yeah he'd do for me as well saint. That said, based on what we are currently seeing whoever comes in isn't exactly going to have to have a stormer of a first season to be an improvement. Given that, Mourinho wouldn't be the only game in town so if he isn't availble, we should eb able to find somebody else who isn't scared off by the prospect of matching a previous season where we were involved in a four way dogfight for fourth place and got knocked out of the FA Cup at home to Barnsley.

Not sure If I want him replaced just yet. But if someone was to replace him, Guus Hiddink would be the man. Means more game time fro Harry, as well as a new contract :D

One thing I would point out is that no matter who takes over in the summer they will have a massive squad rebuilding to undertake. Finnan seems to be on his last legs, none of our left backs seems up to the job. We need a couple of wingers of a higher calibre than Pennant and Benayoun and with Kewell struggling and more than likely leaving.  A couple of strikers (possibly three) to replace Kuyt, Crouch and Voronin. Then add in that Hyypia is getting on and even Carra is no spring chicken and its clear that without serious money being invested we are going to be relying heavily on untried and inexperienced players.

This is the problem who would want to take the job, we need two world class wingers, two strikers, and a defence overhaul, wheres the money coming from?
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I just recently conducted an interesting experiment.  There is another forum that I use to get news on the US national team its youth set up and the like, but its a huge freakin forum and they have a topics for pretty much all teams, LFC included with their regular posters.  I promted them with the question of who they wanted at manager next season and they (mostly yanks and Aussies) thought I was crazy for even bringing it up, they seem behind Rafa 100%.  And I was like thank God I found people who agree with me, (for the record about half recognized that there was a good chance that he might not come back).

It got me thinking. Why would a group of all foreigners be so pro-rafa in This our Darkest Hour  ?

I think it might be our distance from the club and ability to view it more objectively with the clubs interest in mind.  I think maybe the locals want to win so badly that the pain of loosing clouds their judgement and creates a sense of knee jerkiness, of course this does not apply to all that are anti Rafa (because there is a legit argument to be made) or all Liverpudlians, but it could apply to some.

Maybe its because they don't really care. I am quite happy no matter who is England manager and would have quite happily settled for Steve Mclaren keeping his job. Thats because England are of only secondary importance to me.

In all likelyhood the majority of the people would have a passing interest in football but most will probably never even have been to Anfield, and will have only an outsiders view on "soccer".

Many people who go to the match every week strongly back Rafa, but all will recognise that there is a good chance he won't be here next season and appreciate why others have doubts. Certainly none of them would think you crazy for bringing it up.

Certainly the knowledgeable foreign fans will appreciate the problems we currently have and will have questioned our performances and Rafa's role, even if they would prefer him to continue.

ok to be fair, none of them actually said I was crazy for bringing it up, I just said that as a way of expressing how many of the responses came back pro rafa, like I said later a lot pointed out that he probably wouldn't be back, and almost all said that it was despite recent results or something along those lines

My bird has been neglected, and I hope she will forgive me, although she should know that I am doing this all for her. You see once I get the decorating finished my wife will be happy with the new home, all sparkling like a pin, and I can give my bird the full undivded attention she deserves. I am of course talking about the Liverbird, but I digress.

Back on topic, and I have been reading an awful lot of late about Liverpool Football Club. In fact, more than I fee lcompletely comfortable with if I am honest.

In twelve months, or little more, the holy grail of the investment that we needed so badly, both for on and off the field expenditures has turned out to be a total farce.

The men who we welcomed with open arms and afforded the freedom of the city of Liverpool and our hearts, Messrs Gilet and Hicks have turned out to be nothing more than greedy liars. They said they would secure all debts against their personal assets - the didnt, they said they would back the manager, they spoke with Klinsmann (I mean fuc.kin Klinssman !) and they promised to back Rafa, we spent less than Sunderland for fuc.ks sake.

Fast forward 5/6 months and the promise of it being on, the hopes and dreams of getting in amongst the title challengers have all but disappeared and the same old cracks seem to appear. Players just are not good enough, selections at times baffle me and our strikers cant hit a coa's @rse with a fu.cking banjo.

So we find ourselves in the realms of the cries for replacement.

So the question is who do you want to replace Mr Benitez ?

Lest we forget he was himself the number one candidate ahead of a list of luminaries from the game that comprised of Alan Curbishley, MArtin O'Neill and, erm no one else. Just how long this list will be this time is anyones guess.

Despite the fact that some noteable names in management can be bandied about, who exactly is there to replace the man. IF you are a Rafa outer then I want to know who you want in. A name is not enough, I need reasoning, I need availability, I need to see proff that he is better than the man in the job now.

If its not freely available, then do we stick with what we have. Gerard houllier, much lambasted in his final year was afforded 5 years to instigate his plan, so should the same luxury not be afforded to our current spanish incumbent ?

I dont know the answers, I wish I did, but I do know that it hurts, like hell, right inside me, to be fighting with fellow reds about all this. (this happened at the game Saturday, but thats another story). I do know it breaks my heart to see players like Gerrard, Carragher, Torres and Reina who are at the absolute pinnacle of their prowess in the footballing sense have to play with inept "players" (and I use that word looser than a prozzies labia) week in week out like Kewell, Crouch, Riise and the like.

As I said earlier, the love of my life is going to back in the forefront of my mind soon enough, and I look forward to the joys she will bring as much as the lows. If yo dont lose to Barnsley in the FA Cup then beating Juventus and Milan simply would not be the same.

nice post leon for me harry at portsmouth would be one i would like to see i feel over the last 20 odd years liverpool has either had a manager who was a former player or very close to the club or an over seas manager.

Be nice ot have a british manager who isnt closely connected to the club and harry fits that bill.

Not only that tho he is top class manager he can turn any club around i think.

He is great in the market , plays attacking powerful football and he is just a top bloke a bloke i might add that players want to play for.

People will say he isnt top 4 manager but thats only cos he has never been given the chance and i for one would give him that chance.

I cannot comment on how many of the people on the site had been to Anfield, but about 75% listed LFC as their only club that they supported, with the other 25% indicating that they split their support  between LFC and their local club usually Sydney FC or an MLS side

I wouldn't say that everyone that goes to matches backs Rafa, it is quite noticeable on the telly that the Rafa Benitez songs do not seem to be as in full voice as they used to be.
