So who do you want to replace him ?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby LFC2007 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 4:33 am

In all seriousness, in 04/05 we knocked out Juventus - the reigning Champions of Italy, the Champions elect of England, Chelsea, and the incumbent champions of Italy, Milan.

In 00/01, we knocked out Roma, champions elect of Italy, Porto - a very different Porto to the one that won the UCL in 03/04 who finished second in their league, and Barcelona, a very different Barcelona to the one now - who finished fourth that season in La Liga. Lastly - Alaves.

Roma finished 6th the season previous, Porto finished second the season previous, Barcelona finished second the season previous and then Figo their best player left - the beginning of a short period of decline for them (4th,4th,6th).

Only Roma can really be considered anything like of the same level of quality as the teams we faced in 04/05 (Barca for all their flair were sh!t in defence, a solid defence is a pre-requisite if you're to be successful in Europe), even then, I'd still say they were a fair bit behind the Chelsea, Milan and Juventus teams of 04/05.

The teams we faced in the UEFA cup in 2001 were there for a reason, that reason being that they weren't good enough to play in the UCL. There was and is a big difference in the quality of the UEFA cup and the UCL.

Dispite the fact that Barce were the greatest footballing side on the planet at the time?
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

So when we won the UEFA Cup in 2001, we didn't have to battle against one of Italy's giants in Roma?
So when we won the UEFA Cup in 2001, we didn't conceed four goals in the final, but in the European Cup it was only three...that mean Alaves were a better attacking side than Milan? Afterall our defence in 01 was better than 05. Hyypia and Carragher in both, so it comes down to Babbel or Finnan, Babbel all day and Henchoz or Traore....well we all know Hencoz was a top defender.

Huge gulf eh?

You'll have to stop posting, lest you be regarded as a complete moron for all eternity.

Sorry Lando, but you've already got that title.

Shall we put that to the vote?

Me supporting Rafa, or you believing the UEFA cup win of Ged to be "no easier" than the CL win of Rafa?

I don't believe anyone other than peewee, Heimdall and The Rock will be voting for me in THAT particular poll (And that's only because they're all knuckle-draggers... :D)

Do what you want mate, either way you'll never see the UEFA Cup glory of 2001 as anything because it wasn't your precious Benitez who won it was it.

Grow up, soft lad.

It's the truth Lando. Anything Houllier achieved you do your upmost to make it look less worhty than it was.

Yet Benitez, even if we win a game you're straight in there with the praises.

When have I belittled Houllier's achievements?

He won us a treble, which was very good at the time, but Rafa has simply moved the bar up by bagging the CL.

There is no comparison.

(Let's put it another way - a way you might understand:

Would you rather win League 2, League 1 and the Coca-Cola Championship, or 1 Premiership?

Answers on a postcard...)

Who finished fourth that season, 17 points off the top I might add.

Well the Premiership obviously, and I'd rather win the European Cup over the UEFA, I haven't said different. What I have said however, is the UEFA Cup in 2001 was a great achievement, and there's no getting away from that. It was as big an achievement as the European Cup in 05.

A great achievement - yes.

As great an achievement as the UCL win of 2005 - No.

It's as clear as day.

Sorry tell a lie, they were second.

Behind us.

:D

Now maybe you'll realise this whole bollox I've been coming up with about the UEFA is a wind up. After Saturday's result, I needed a good way to get ready for tomorrow, winding up some of Rafa's most loyal subjects was the best I could come up with.

I'm not disregarding or taking away the UEFA of 2001, it still ranks as one our greatest nights since the turn of the century, but it's nothing like winning the European Cup. Hopefully you'll all forgive me, but I just needed a laugh to see these get wound up.

Thanks folks  :D

Coincidences to 2005

We got knocked out of the FA CUP by a cr@ppy team starting with the letter "B"
Our Left backs all seem to have Traore syndrome this season
We are playing Italian "giants"
Alonso and Gerrard have both been out injured for a while
We are fighting for fourth in the league with Everton
Coronation street is still on tv
Newcastle sacked their manager (I know this happens most seasons but still ....)
Chelsea have a new manager
We are looking for new owners
Kewell is coming back from injury

Bow fools at the legendary wind up master. Be warned though, if we lose to Inter I'm gonna be out for you all. Telling you Souness was a better manager than Paisley :D

Paisley never won the Scottish Prem , Souness did. Seems obvious to me who the better manager was.
