There will be only one winner, and most on here will think, deep down, the loser is the guy we want to run our club.

Then dont you think its about time we the fan who put money aswell into the owners pocket came out and showed them that Rafa has got our support with what he wants to do with our club.

It might be a buissiness venture for them but this is my :censored: club aswell, Long before they came on the scene and i still see it as a football club.

To think of 'the Moaning One' as the manager of Liverpool FC makes me sick.

If G & H don't think Rafa is a 'company' man, wait till they cross Mourinho.

If they think Rafa ask for too much money, let them take a look at the 'the Spending One's' last three years.

For all the reasons it appears they are unhappy with RB, that wont change with Mourinho.

I agree with Ciggy, I think that the owners have bitten off more than they can chew financially.  They need Champions League $$$$$$ to turn a profit and they are starting to panic.  And becuase of this, we are going to lose a great manager.

A question for all you supporters:
With Mourinho at the helm from the start of this campaign, are we better off, worse, or in the same position?

I hope its just a case of them getting to know each other and how to work with each other - they both want the same thing but just need to find the middle ground to get there. I really do hope they both pull their head in, make up and get on with winning this league!

I think it's worth poiting out that although some of us have talked up the possibility of Mourinho becoming the manager, that isn't the same thing as advocating such a move. Equally, although i've tried to give some sort of idea of as I see it the owners looking at the club as a business, it doesn't mean that I personally look at it in that way.

All I'm trying to do is to look behind the quotes and look at possible scenarios. I do think the new owners see the club as a business venture, an investment, and I do think they see Rafa as an employee. I also wouldn't be at all surprised if they consider Mourinho more likely to deleiver the Premiership title in the short term than Rafa.

To answer the final part of your post Yankee, I wouldn't want Mourinho as manager particularly, but hand on heart and given Rafa's selection policy I do think we would have marginally larger chance of mounting a sustained title challenge with him at the helm next season.

Probably more of a pertinant question however is whether either of them could mastermind such a push without significant investment from the owners.

I'm glad you nipped that one in the bud Mick.

Big Mick

Fair points all around.  I wasn't having a go at you on the Mourinho issue.  Sorry for the implication.  But just thinking of him at the helm gets my blood boiling.  While RB may have come on a little strong on this last rant towards the owners, I think overall Rafa Benitez embodies the Liverpool spirit much more than Mourinho ever could.

I also think like for like, that Rafa is ever bit the manager.  I have confidence he would and could deliver the title if left alone.  Mourinho probably could as well,  But I would not trade RB for him.

Football as a business.
Here in the States, we are much more accustomed to this line of thinking.  Teams change colors, mascots, names, coaches, and even the cities they represent just to make a buck.  It is sad, but it is true.  The history of a team, the culture of a team, the character of a team, and the 'way' of a team are largely becoming side notes in the history books.

Football in England (from what I have read and followed) has great grassroots following.  There exists a passionate local following for most clubs, and (most importantly for the business discussion) most of the owners are/were local businessmen with the cities/regions best interest at heart concerning the team.  Sadly, for the Big clubs, that is dying away with foreign ownership.  It pains me to see that.  It hurts me to see the business side overuling the CLUB, and the city and the supporters.  But, in todays world it has to be (for big clubs).  If we ignore the business aspect we go the way of Leeds.

It is not the fact that G & H are treating this conflict with Rafa as a business decision that bothers me, it is the fact that they are making a poor, uninformed, backwards, unplanned, business decision. IMHO

I think people are taking side here and shouldn't, no one knows whats going on here and who is out of order!

Neither do we know the situation with G & H when it comes to money, all I do know is that Rafa asked for players in the summer and he got them

People need stop slating G & H at the end of the day their not the enemy, all this conspiracy sh!t is just making things worse  :no

I was chatting to a Newcastle fan last night about the Rafa and G&T arguement. He was saying that when Newcastle floated their shares on the stock market Dalglish had to sell a large number of their players to make the clubs finances more attractive to the stock market. Over £20million in sales, with less than £7 million spent on players brought in, with 8 free transfers such as Rush, Barnes and Stuart Pearce brought in to fill the gaps.

Obviously if G&H need/want to refinance, they will want the clubs books to look as strong as possible, which may explain their reluctance to commit themselves to any spending at this time.

Ps The Newcastle fan thought we would win 3-0 today, but says he thinks it will be a kicking match similar to their match against Sunderland.

Hmmm would have prefered him to say I dont wish to comment but now we know whats going on they wont give him the money to sign Mascherano.
Big mistake on their half, big mistake you dont let world class players like that slip through your grasp.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

people, I want you all to consider this.

If this beef between rafa and G&H gets worse, can we as fans make a difference? Are we willing to write and sign a petition so that those yanks will know how much rafa is appreciated by the fans and that we have a special manager not an ordinary one...
