did anyone notice Rafa was wearing a tracksuit today instead of his usual suit. I think this is aimed at the yanks with regard to the statement that he should just get on with coaching the team and not worry about money. What do you think.
From Shankly to Brendan we follow our team, Rome to Istanbul we've all lived the dream. Our journey is long, our goal stays the same, to keep for our children the famous red name.

Exactly. They seem to want Rafa to "coach and train" only, no need to think about signing or sales or anything to do with money because thats their job. Well in football you have a manager and a first team coach and there different things but in their minds im sure they see Rafa's job as you guessed it " coaching and training the team". I think there is more than a clue here as to why Paco left. And now Rafa is perminently in a tracksuit hmmm.

Not got a clue lad. Not one iota of sense, no grip on reality no nothing.

Poor start to the season ?

One of only two teams in the league unbeaten. 6 points off top spot, game in hand on second, third fourth, Champions League qualification still in our hands and a possibility and in the LEague Cup latter stages, only conceded six goals all season, starting to come into goal scoring form and having set the record for a win in the greatest club competition on the planet, third top scorers in the league........

Not to mention injuries to key players.

This situation is clearly a very delicate one. I'm not going to comment too much on it until something more concrete happens though, as all the things I've been speculating about myself have already been mentioned by various other members of this forum. That's just what it all is though at the moment - conjectures. I'm not denying the obvious of course: there is a definite rift among the owners and Rafa (which I hope is solved soon and with Rafa staying naturally).

But we really haven't got any clue on what will happen, and until one of the parties involved makes a more concrete move (ei they agree to sit down together sooner than mid-December, they phone each other and talk it out, Rafa threatens directly to quit or something like that) we'll just have to wait it out, even though this can be hard. At the moment there is so much of this internet phenomena going on, where one thing bandied as a rumour heard from a "close source" on one webpage becomes a dead cert fact on another webpage, as it is coming from "the horses mouth" (no mentioning of WHO this horse is though :p ).

I guess what I'm trying to say is, that we'll just have to wait and see if any of our speculations turn out to be true or not. Personally I just have one big hope, and that is for Rafa to stay. Ra-fa Ra-fa-el!

Benitez lifts the lid on Liverpool unrest: Parry now in charge of buying and selling players
Last updated at 19:38pm on 24th November 2007

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez wore a satisfied smile after the 3-0 victory over Newcastle as he set off back to Merseyside having lifted the lid on his difference of opinion with owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

The Spaniard was yesterday told to concentrate on the players he already has after voicing his frustration over the club's transfer policy approaching the January window, but after seeing his players deliver once again, he stated his case publicly.

Benitez, who pointed to the £26million he has brought back into the club in the last year, said: "It is clear Mr Hicks wants the best for the club and we want the best for the club.

"Because we have been here for a long time, we know what passion means in football in Europe.

"They know the manager needs to manage the squad and prepare the squad for this year and for the future.

"We had a meeting the day of the Arsenal game and the meeting was really positive.

"After that meeting, something changed. I tried to explain my ideas, but they said to me 'Rafa, keep focussing on coaching and training because Rick Parry will be in charge of buying and selling players'.

"I tried to explain to them and now, it is simple: they say, 'Keep focussed and Mr Parry will keep working in the transfer market'."

Now we really ARE in trouble :(  Fkn Rick sorry my phone was switched off fkn Parry

ITs common for the manager to identify targets with his coaches but a director to persue the player through his club/agent etc.

I thought Foster Gillette was going to do it after Rafa expressed doubts about Parry's ability in the summer?

'Rafa, keep focussing on coaching and training because Rick Parry will be in charge of buying and selling players'.

Sounds more like they were telling Rafa not to pick the targets either from that quote!

Again, not unusual for the director of a company to get his managers to concentrate on certain areas of the business they are best at.

The transfer at issue again here is the MAscherano one, and MSI have decided to try and get a lot more money for him to fulfill their investment.
