Liverpool complete first January signing

Reports this evening claim that Mauricio Pellegrino has signed for Liverpool on loan until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old Argentine defender is out-of-contract in the summer and was negotiating with Valencia to be released from his existing deal early but if tonight's reports are accurate, his agent has been unable to agree a severance package.

Speaking this evening, the player said: "I want to triumph in England and I am ready for the job. Rafael Benitez has been the key in this transfer. He called me and I decided to leave and join him."

Hmmm interesting, a loan deal sounds better than a perminent move for a 33 year old defender :)

Valencia's Pellegrino: Liverpool a great opportunity
tribalfootball.com - January 5, 2005

Released Valencia defender Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed he's on his way to Liverpool.

The Argentine has terminated his contract with Che by mutual consent and revealed: "My intention was to fulfill my contract until the end of season, but no longer do I have the option here to play.

"My desire is to do so for at least two more years and the option of Liverpool is a very good one."

He added: "I didn't think such an opportunity would arrive for me. But I have been working very hard to achieve something like this."

Morientes will be joining soon despite the new coach in Madrid.

yep i think Morientes will be on the  way , i honestly think that he is sick to the back teeth  the way he has been treated at Madrid and knows that he will be a  key member of our squad  .

Its very  strange the way madrid treat Morientes ,  i could never understand it myself. Maybe its the fact he was cheap , so they dont treat him as a "galactico"  ( spanish for "prima donna a@rholes) . Im amazed he has put up with it for so long .

If we can't get Morientes, RB must have a plan B . Hopefully look another player ( I perfer Andy Johnson , he's good ) and bring back Tallec, Bruno Cheyrou and Alou Diarra

Andy Johnson? Good for Crystal Palace, not good enough for us. I'd go with Anelka if not Morientes

Bring back Tallec, Bruno Cheyrou and Alou Diarra ? I certainly hope not ! I guess RB is trying to have spanish speaking players all over, so that he can convey his tactics in spanish. Just like what AW did to Arsenal, by buying french speaking players.

Andy Johnson is a fairly good forward but I do not think he will fit into RB plans and I do not see him good enough for the big stage.
