Liverpool FC defender Daniel Agger: My body wasn't built for football
LIVERPOOL FC defender Daniel Agger has admitted he may have to manage his injury-plagued body throughout his career.
But the Danish defender insists he is enjoying his football now more than at any other time and believes there is no better place in the world than Liverpool!
Back after a three match absence with a rib injury, Agger explained: “It’s going well right now.
“It’s not perfect, but it will probably never be that.
“My body might not have been built to play football.
“You have to learn to live with it and I have done that.
"It has been necessary at times.
“But there are no better options in the world than Liverpool.
"It is top in every area.”
Since he signed for the Reds five years ago Agger has been tormented by a succession of unrelated injuries.
He has managed an average of only 25 matches a season and has featured in less than 50 per cent of Reds matches since 2006.
But after his return to the Liverpool starting line-up this season coincided with the Reds’ first back-to-back clean sheets of the season, manager Kenny Dalglish declared there was no-one better in his position in the Premier League.
Agger added: “I have noticed that I am more relaxed. I know where I am at the moment and that suits me perfectly.
“Football has always meant a lot to me but I enjoy it more today.
“I have especially enjoyed being on the pitch this season and just take one match at a time.”
Another masterclass today against a red hot attack. I believe danny is the best defender to grace Anfield, utterly fabulous. I seem to recall the defensive stats with agger playing compared to him not in the side were startling aswell. Monster player.
I love Agger. What a player he is... The best cb we've had in a while, especially when it comes to playing the ball from the back. He's just an all around good CB. He's been healthy, and him and Skrtel understand each other beautifully. Ever since Carra's been out with Agger replacing him, we've only conceded 2 goals in 4 games. 1 to chelsea and 1 to man city. I don't think anybody would be upset with that.
We bought Agger for 6 million quid in January 2006. In the past 5 years he's 'played' 147 games. Some will have been full 90 mins but lost would not have been. Lets be generous and say he played an average 80 minutes per game.
According to http://www.trophy4toon.co.uk/salaries.html he gets paid 1.75 million quid a year. Lets ignore repaying the transfer fee, maybe we could still breakeven on him but theres 5 years interest at say 7%. Again we'll ignore bonus fees because we don't know with any accuracy what they might be.
So...... 5 years x 1.75 million = 8.75 million + 5 years interest 2.10 million. 147 games x 80 minutes = 11,760 minutes or 196 hours.
55,357 quid per hour of play. And remember thats being extremely conservative.
Now how the BH can anyone say Agger represents any kind of value for money to the club?
A couple of good games and folks jizz..... he's simply not worth the cost.
Reg - your talking rubbish - Agger earnt his money during the 06/07 season when he was immense taking us to the CL final - that run paid of his fee and wages all in one go .
The lad has had a few injury problems but is one of the most talented CB's in the prem and is showing signs of being a bit more robust
Reg - you ok mate, you have been very petimistic lately??
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players. We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On
