seriously what has roy hogdson done?

you can say that steve mclaren has acheived more.......two europe cup finals with middlesboro champions in germany

the only good think hodson has really done is won titles in sweden? but come on, thats similar to winning sunday league titles

and i think mclaren is a joker

so what does that make hodgson?

Don't want Hiddink and not just because he managed Chelski for three months. Doubt that Redknapp would be long term even if he wanted to come. Eriksson would be a disaster. Van Gaal a risk worth taking but can't see it happening.

To be fair I think Hodgson guiding Fulham into the Europa league last season then taking them to the final this season was quite an accomplishment imo.

in my view roy hogdson would make a good temp manager untill the club was sold, he is a bit of a troubleshooter manager now.

If the club just wants a "troubleshooter" until new owners come in they may as well just ask Dalglish and Sammy Lee to get on with it rather than have to go to the time and cost of getting Hodgson.

I know he wouldn't be the most exciting appointment but I'd be pretty happy with Hodgson to come in and steady the ship. His accomplishments don't jump off the page but he's had a good career and his teams play good football.

- He has only won titles in Sweden but he took the Swiss to number 3 in the FIFA world rankings and into the last 16 of the 1994 World Cup which is no mean feat. He also got them qualified for the Euros in 1996.

- He did a good job with Inter in the 90's, turning around a poor side and taking them to a UEFA Cup Final

- He has done a fantastic job with Fulham these past two years. I've read a few posters flippantly disregarded him taking them to a UEFA Cup Final but it's a hell of an achievement for a side that was looking a dead cert for relegation when he got there.

- The blip on his career was the stint at Blackburn. He finished a respectable 6th place the first year but made some poor purchases the following summer and was sacked with them sitting bottom of the league.

- The rest of his carreer (as Lakes points out) tends to be 1/2 season reparation jobs where he has come in and done a good job at a number o0f European clubs.

The question is whether United, Chelsea or even Spurs would consider Hodgson as an appointment? The answer surely is no.

Am not quite sure why O'Neil is such an unpopular choice either to be honest? He might not be everybody's cup of tea but he's had a pretty impressive career to date.

- He took Wycombe into the football league for the first time in their history and then another promotion straight after. I followed his career pretty closely from there on and he nearly pulled off a 3rd consecutive promotion the following season.

- O'Neil's achievements at Leicester seem to get short shrift from most but i'd ask anyone to look at where there are now compared to MONs time at the club. He won two League Cups and was runner up in another and in a 3 year spell he had them finish 9th, 8th and 10th in the league.

- No point talking about his Celtic career except for reaching the UEFA Cup final a few years back. That was a nice achievement I think. Celtic is a massive club though so he that experience with have done him good I reckon.

- I notice he gets a bit slated for his Villa record but again, I think he's doing a decent job. They've finished 6th the past 3 seasons and i know he's had a fair bit of money but it's never easy breaking into that top 4. they nearly managed it last season (08/09) but ran out of gas in the final weeks of the season + he's never had the biggest squad to work with. Hids transfer record gets criticized but buying James Milner for what? 6-7 mill and then turning down bids in excess of £22 mill from City isn't a bad piece of work is it. Same goes Ashley Young who cost a lot at the time (£8 mill) but he'd go for double that now I suspect. john Carew was a good piece of business, we could certainly do with a player like that.

Surely it is! BUT we're in a complete mess and I suspect Hodgson or Mon are as good as it is gonna get

I'd love to see Van Gaal come in, a big name who would get us playing attractive football and would instantly persuade the likes of Gerrard, Torres and Masch to stay by his reputation alone.

But sadly it's a pipe dream unless new ownership is found quickly.

Why?

Because O'Neil is not a manger that can do more out of less.
Celtic is a big club in scotland and he was backed and did neither great nor bad.
At Villa he has been backed pretty well, but isn't ever going beyond 6th in the league.
He rarely finds great bargain and brings in alot of dross and is obsessed with british overpriced players mostly. Never looks to the continent for quality(rare exceptions).
His team plays hoofball all night long sometimes using 3-4 cb in the backline. Very little creativity in his teams, if any.

Hodgson have at least shown he can do well with little resources both doing well with Finland, Switzerland and Fulham. As a temporary manager for a couple of years he could at least right the ship a little.
Least not forget Hodgson knows the european game very well also with all his international experience.

At the moment I don't think we can really consider ourslves to have the same goals as those teams... not for next season anyway and not until there is a change on the ownership front.

Im sure it will become as clear as crystal come the start of next season when we take a look at our squad heading into the first game. Tell you what, you all better pray Jovanovich turns out to be a steal as he's probably going to be our main main up front if Torres goes.

On a side note I wonder how many season ticket holders will not be renewing theirs in protest of the yanks.

Do you know what after giving it considerable thought and admiration for Kenny ,i think id have to agree with Eff , yes id be terrified incase it was to much for him, and i would also be terrified incase he never got results and fans turned on him. Ive got to much respect for the man to want him to have to go through some of the sh.ite Rafa did,

he is at the club already knows the set up , knows the players , which ones he can count on and which ones are the troublemakers, He is steeped n our tradition and we all know the fans and the club are embedded in his heart , weve been through tough times together, As ciggy said a couple of days ago he would be the cheapest option for them two, but another worry i would have would be will he be a yes man to them because we know there not going anytime soon, I would like and hope to think that if he is appointed long term, he will revert back to Kenny the manager who took no sh.it from anyone , thats the Kenny we loved, He would have the fans on side instantly we know that , But as i said my biggest fear is if it didnt work out after say a season, you know how fickle fans can be in present day football they want there pound of flesh, they want 5 goals in 20 minutes because theve paid there money,

So yes id have Kenny , and i would love him like i did before PLAYER AND MANAGER. but i would be nervous and terrified for him at the same time,
If you take the job Kenny lad ,be your own man, and dont take no shi.t from any jumped up men in suits, So what you waiting for get your trackie and trabs back on and lets knock the drunk up the M6 off his fecking perch.
