Looking on the bright side....

We are STILL Liverpool, and last season aside have been challenging for honours for the past five years in one way or another, and even last year we got to a European semi final (yes, I am spinning this of course)

A new manager gets to work with  -

Torres
Gerrard
Masch
Reina

Which is a hell of a spine of a team.

With decent players in the team like -

Agger
Carra
Johnson
Kuyt

We also have (I believe) a decent academy set up, with good people running it.

I don't think we will be attractive enough to get a major A list manager like Maureen (had he not gone to Madrid) Hiddink, Rijkard etc, but I would imagine a number of decent candidates will be interested.

Martin O Neil.

Give him the reigns and let him have a shot at managing a team with prospects.

Here's the ultimate irony. If we never had Rafa as manager, and if we were in this position having sacked a different manager, we'd be made up if we signed someone of his calibre.

And let's be honest, why would managers of that calibre want to risk their managerial reputations and come to a club where they'll receive no support from a profiteering board who will use any money generated at club level to pay off debt and of course take 10% interest on all debt repayments as profits.

What are the thoughts of Spalletti the former Roma manager who is at Zenit St Petersburg?

Spot on. No decent continental manager is going to come to us until we have new owners or some significant investment which will guarantee the funds we need.

Maybe Ranieri even....

What exactly has he done to deserve it? Pay over the odds for English players and an all time high finish of 6th?

Besides he probably wouldn't even be interested given we are skint.

O'Neil would give his left bollock to manage a club the size of Liverpool. Thing is, he'd be a fish out of water.

i heard one numpty on the radio yesterday say that he wanted o'neill because he "shows" passion on the touchline, i.e jumps around like a lunatic (like that actually makes him a good manager). he then had a go at rafa for not celebrating when we score.

honestly you couldn't make some of this nonsense up. it wouldn't happen anyway as i'm pretty sure o'neill will be going to the world cup as a pundit for the bbc.

Theres 45,000 people showing passion at Anfield every week - does that mean we can split the job and all have a go?

As you say... numpty talk.

Y´know, as someone said last night on this forum, I'm struggling to give a tommy tít who gets the job to tell the truth.

me too, its quite irrelevant.  Thats what some have been trying to say to the Anti Rafa's.
I can't see any manager taking over and doing anything more than challenging for top 4.

The only positive thing for a new manager is that there won't be pressure or expectation.

Claude Puel:  current Lyon manager, won french league with Monaco, and went to the CL semis this year
Didier Deshamps: current Marseilles manager, just won the French league, CL finalist with Monaco, brought Juve ought of Serie B.  This is actually a pretty good CV, league and European success and not afraid to take over big clubs in need of help.  Also has a pair of french league cups
Dunga: Brazil coach won confederations cup

Jose Segura: our current technical manager at the academy. Won the double with Olympiakos in his only year
managing at senior level.  came here to replicate barca's youth academy in Liverpool, but was only supposed to stay for one year after he set up the system.

And I am assuming that Pellegrini, Rijkaard, and Lippi have all been mentioned.

And I know it sounds ridiculous in this day and age, but I don't think that Carra should be too far down the list.  He knows the squad really well, he knows the history of the club, the city, he has a passion for the club, he has said he would like to manage, he knows the league well . . .

No one from the uk then ?

Make same mistake as before filling a square peg in a round hole ?

We need a manager that knows this league we can't guess now we need someone that understands english football.

you clearly didn't read the post too carefully then.  And of course, there aren't going to be any English managers that have both experience at a big club and that have won anything and that are available.

Despite the problems I still think people understimate the power of Liverpool Football Club and how attractive the position will be to top class managers. It could argued I see it through rose tinited specs but I still beleive we will have a lot of interest from the best names out there from home and abroad. The job doesnt not come up that often because the club has a history of allowing managers time and Benitez followed that unusual trend. In the football world you are always on a knife edge in top jobs so in that respect we are no different even with the sale issues and this means we are still in a position to select a terrific football manager. Lets hope we make the right choice.
