If the owners are selling the club then a short term manager is needed, I'd save money and promote Sammy Lee to the role of manager on a temporary basis.

Sammy Lee has had direct contact with the current squad for the past two years, he knows the ins and outs of everything to do with the playing staff - he is the most logical choice and Kenny's role is to find a new manager, not be the new manager.

Sammys problem at Bolton was he tried to turn Big Sams log ball merchants into a proper footballing team, which would have been impossible for any coach without having a complete overhaul of that squad

It was his first managerial position, not everyone's first managerial job goes smoothly and as burjennio said, Bolton needed a drastic player overhaul. Look at Bolton today, they are still playing the same way under Owen Coyle that they were playing under Big Sam and he left nearly three years ago.

Phil Thompson isn't a bad shout, though I can't imagine him wanting to work under Hicks and Gillett. Who could blame him?

Sorry but as much as I like Sammy Lee he was an is a fecking useless manager at least at this level, would be a terrible appointment and in fairness I don't even expect him to be kept on as an assistant.

I haven't read all 48 pages so apologies for any repetition...

I've heard three possibles, one obvious, one an outsider and one totally off the wall.

1. MON. Not my choice. Compensation will be huge, but he might bring Young/Agbonlahor

2. Sven. Some say deal was done in April and he will join after the World Cup.

3. The weird one. Sammi Hyypia, with Kenny as mentor.

Number 3 is the cheapest option for sure.

My personal preference would be Hiddink but he's just signed up to Turkey.

I agree. Nearly as daft as suggesting Carra at this stage in his career.

I think we have to accept that we are in that place where almost every living footbal manager will be linked with us until we appoint someone.

I'm just waiting for George Graham to be mentioned :eyebrow

Frank Rijkaard is one name that stands out firmly to me, but I just cannot see him departing Galatasaray. My worry is that 1) do we have enough money to attract managers of this calibre? 2) what happens if we get new owners, surely they'll want to bring in their own manager?

And let's be honest, why would managers of that calibre want to risk their managerial reputations and come to a club where they'll receive no support from a profiteering board who will use any money generated at club level to pay off debt and of course take 10% interest on all debt repayments as profits.

What are the thoughts of Spalletti the former Roma manager who is at Zenit St Petersburg?

I honestly cant see it being anyone other than Hodgson or O'Neil depending on what sort of contract MON has at Villa. Hiddink would be great but has just signed a deal with Turkey.

That or Sammy Lee and Kenny take the reigns, but Daglish has been out of football for a long time now and the game has progressed in the last 15years since his Blackburn/Newastle days. Also will this generation of footballers be in awe of a man who had his playing hayday over 25 years ago? How much weight does his name carry outside of British football these days?

Whatever, its not going to make a goddamn difference until those two clowns have their hook well and truly slung. I legitimately feel like throwing up when I think about the road this club is on atm.
