Still my preference would be Frank Rijkaard

Its like teh SG rumours they just come and go like the tide. Rafa will be at Anfield next season. I hope. Maybe. Err....

Without their £16million Bav? I doubt that VERY much mate.

I have many doubts over Rafa, man management, tactics, signings etc, but I don't doubt he has an affinity with this great club.
But you can easily get lost in love and lose sense of what is best for that love ie stick at a job you're doing badly thinking you can do better, not wanting to leave and knowing once you leave there is probably no return. Maybe in retrospect Kenny leaving when he did may have dumped us deep in doodoo, but maybe in the long run him staying would have seen a decline anyway.
Where do we go now? If Rafa survives the summer and is in charge next season, what is going to be the requirement? Back to square one and top four? Or mount a title challenge? How many years off another title challenge are we?!?!? He's had six seasons in which we've not achieved a lot more than we did under Houllier, is he to gain another 2-3 years with plenty of ready made excuses?!? He's already come out with the line that we need 4-5 players so clearly he's trying to buy himself at least another season.
Some will argue his position is impossible because of financial constraints, but what is the answer to that? Stick with someone who can't do the job or find someone who can under the same circumstances...............................? With the way Rafa spends money I'd say I'd be wary even if someone did give him £200m, not least because most other clubs 'see him coming' and if they see him coming with £200m in his pocket then they'll be asking £75m for Villa, £40m for Silva, £30m for Kenwyne Jones etc - and I can see him paying over the odds for players, it's not as if Keane £20.3m, Aquilani £20m, Dossena £7m, Cavalieri £3m and Johnson £17.5m were in the "bargain" category, some not even close. It annoys me to this day that we bought Keane and not Bent who is 3.5 years younger and better (or Defoe) I can understand Rafa not taking a risk on Modric when spudz were set to buy him, but not Defoe or Kranjcar?!? I'm not suggesting the man needs hindsight, but some of his choices beggar belief.
