Overall I'm reasonably optimistic the red sox people have what it takes. The debt T&T used to acquire the club will paid off and the lifting of that burden allows the club to proceed on a sustainable basis. The £40m we make in profit - rather than going almost exclusively toward the servicing of debt - can be ploughed straight back into the club. Some will say, well that isn't enough to fund the squad, but for all we know they may have plans to supplement that amount. The fact that they spent nearly $200m in one season on the red sox suggests that perhaps they have deeper pockets than we're led to believe by some of the figures that have bandied about. I think we need to see an initial injection to try and keep the core of the current squad together. It's what the likes of Reina, Torres and Gerrard have been asking for, and regardless of what anyone says about needing a complete clearout of the of the old, when you have world class players it is generally better to try and hold onto them - they are not easy to come by. The next question is whether they can fund the stadium (re-)development. Usually that kind of project would funded in phases, or against future earnings - a % of future gate receipts. Sure, you won't see the benefits of the extra revenue until it's paid off, but in the meantime you're increasing revenue in other areas. 

Unlike our current soon-to-be-ousted owners, this group has an admirable track record, a successful blueprint to follow. It's encouraging too that redsox fans and the wider baseball fraternity speak of them as sensible, clued up people - more Obama than Bush,more Bad Bob than Heimdall - aware of what's required to restore the club to its former glories. It remains to be seen whether they can actually deliver but on the face of it they look a capable bunch.

One thing you, John Henry (wasnt that a John Wayne film?) and other portentially interested Red Sox fans needs to be aware of is we´ve been raped by Hicks and Gillett and at best JH will get a mooted reception until his integrity and sincerity are demonstrated through actions.

Tom Hicks latest text to 5live: "that's why there are laws and courts" with reference to his contested "removal" of Ayre and Purslow

Ive had radio 5 on, during the boardmeeting last night Purlsow & Ayres got kicked off the board Hicks said Mack Hicks & that Lori one where now on the board, Broughton said via the video conference you cant do that Tom he said I can and cut the press conference off. That was the last he heard from him.

During the radio show now Dan Rowan has been txting Hicks all day he said you have to answer me sometime Tom, he said Purslow & Ayres no longer work for the club.

Hes just txted him again whilst they are on air and said that's why there are laws and courts and thats why Purslow & Ayres have been kicked out the club.

He spoke to him for 18 seconds hicks made it clear he was not going down lightly or walking away with nothing, he said he is the most hard nosed buisness man ever.

Anyway this Bernie fella is being interviewed and goes to church with Gillett he lives by him in canada hes from Liverpool but is an evertonian the email campaign scared the sh!t out of him he has never known anything like it and American fans dont do anything like we have done with the campaigns.

On the new owner he said American owners just do not get the passion, or know what it means to be a football club owner, he didnt say it wont work out but dont expect him to act like the club is the be and end all of his life cause it wont be.

The only reason I posted here is because I've seen from afar all of your anger with Hicks. And I wanted to give you a perspective from a fan of the team Henry owns, that's all.

In the end, my opinion means nothing. Search on the web about Henry and read for yourself. Henry will need to prove himself to you in the UK.  I think he will -- let's revisit in 5 years and see how it's gone.

Prediction: Henry's marketing people love sugary promotions. I GUARANTEE they will market the Red Sox/ Reds connection worldwide as "Red World" or "Red Planet" or something like that.

Hey, I've only followed football a bit, and have been probably a casual fan of Barca if anyone.    But today you gained a lot of new fans from Boston and the rest of New England.
