Striker Dirk Kuyt has moved to quash speculation linking him with a move away from Liverpool and insisted: "I'm really happy at Anfield."

Rafael Benitez was quick to play down media speculation last week linking the player with a move elsewhere - words which came as music to the Dutch international's ears.

"I'm really happy at Liverpool and I want to stay here for as long as the club wants me," Kuyt told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"I am really settled here and I like the city. The most important thing is I like the club and I've really enjoyed the two seasons I've been here. The only thing I am missing is some trophies and hopefully that will come in the next year.

"I've never had any intentions of leaving this club. Sometimes things are said in the press but the boss said to me that is not relevant and he wants me here with Liverpool."

The Reds number 18 is now focusing on tonight's Champions League qualifier with Standard Liege, and while the team have been in good form during pre-season, Kuyt insists the hard work starts now against tricky Belgian opposition.

"The team has been working really hard and the new players have adapted well," said the 28-year-old.

"The last three games we have had some good results against Rangers, Valerenga and Lazio, but let's see where we are after this week. If we start well on Wednesday and then against Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday, then we will have had a good pre-season.

"We know that we are a good team. We have a lot of confidence and we've just got to show that in the first games of the season.

"I know a bit about Liege. Belgium is close to Holland and I know their league. Maybe it isn't as good as a couple of years ago but they are still a good team with a few talented young players.

"It will definitely be tough for us and hopefully we can get a good result. I think it's really important to have the second game at home. Every team in Europe is difficult to beat but it's good for us because the distance is not too far. Hopefully we can get the result we want and get through to the Champions League.

"This is a really important game for us so early in the season because we know if we were to lose we would be out of the Champions League. That's not what we want because we have had some really good results in that competition over the past few years."

Kuyt has also spoken about his role on the right-hand side of midfield, claiming he would play anywhere for the good of the team.

"I have always played as a striker in my career but in the national team I have played on the right," he added.

"I played there during Euro 2008 for Holland. I'm not really a right winger but I can play it my own way and I like it so far. The last 15 games of last season went really well. We were playing well as a team and I was scoring goals and giving assists.

"As long as I can be important for the team I'm happy to play on the right side. For me the most important thing is winning games and picking up trophies. That is more important to me than being a striker and scoring goals.

"I don't care if I play as a striker, a second striker or a right winger. I just want to play as many games as I can and be important for the team."

Kuyt also welcomed the summer acquisition of Robbie Keane.

"Robbie has so many qualities," he said. "Everyone knows him because he has played at a really good level for many years in the Premier League.

"With the signing of Robbie and the other new players hopefully we can make another good step forward.

"This is going to be my third season with Liverpool and every year the club brings in a new striker. That's Liverpool because the club always wants to progress and always wants to be better. It's a good thing because you have to perform better as well."

of course he is happy at anfield and wants to stay, at any other club he would be on the transfer list or rotting away in the reserves

That is right, and he is going to occupy a position in first team, that it will be less effective and unproductive, he is only in side because he is No.1 Benttiez, babe.

Well, same old story.

Kuyt reminds everyone how inept he really is. Alonso becomes
1/10 of the player he can be if you close him down and plays hard against him=PL style. But once again, one good thing
is that maybe, just maybe for every game a few fans and Rafa might actually see the light and accept the reality...

Ever see the movie Groundhog Day ? Did we not have hundreds of posts like this last season ?

Think its been like this since 1990.

Won't change till we win the league.

lol after last night's performance the whole season is now over

It was a really bad performance - I hope the Argies lose to Holland so Masch gets back (bet Rafa's praying for that outcome too)

Agree with most it can't get any worse then it was last night.

Well i watched this last night and it was the most frustrating match i've seen in a while. Liege should have won by at least 2 goals. The only bright side i can see is that if Liverpool play this bad without being beaten then we could win the league :p but seriously we were awful, the fact that Rafa had to resort to using Gerrard shows how pathetic we were.

Of course we are short of match practice and a couple of players but this is no excuse. The eagerly awaited Keane and Torres partnership was a bit of an anti-climax, but to be fair they need time and Torres is surely a bit tired after the Euros. Plessis played well i thought, hes only 20 and he was thrown in at the deep-end, given time i'd say he could make a decent holding midfielder. Apart from one good pass i was not impressed with Alonso, Kuyt and Benayoun offered nothing going forward, we had defensive mentality all night. elsewhere there was'nt any other positives apart from Pepe saving our :censored: :;): .

I think were going to win the league...

hello! hello! earth calling !

here's a couple of facts for you...

FACT - we played rubbish
FACT - we got a nil-nil draw AWAY from home in the European Cup, against the current Belgium champions

hey people, how many times would we take a 0-0 away draw in a european game in the knowledge that we have a return leg at Anfield? EVERY TIME!

so time to stop crying because we were cr@p and look at it realistically

oh dear oh dear, its the same old story, can't break a decent side down. no width, defending far too deep and now knocking long balls up to short lads.

more draws more dissappointement as we repeat the last season? I have to think so at this point. :help

can only hope that we don't draw 0-0 with the strikerless sunderland as proof of this on saturday.

hopefully a 3-0 then! :)  :)  :)

gerrard - off the pace, not fit and sharp after injureis in preseaosn, needs a couple of weeks.
keane and torres - need to learn how to play together
caraa- STOP DEFENDING SO DEEP!!! we need to be much higher and so push our midfield up a bit. :sniffle

They were a lot handier than anyone thought, I was very impressed with them.

Let's hope they bottle it at Anfield.

What I don't understand is why in Pre-season have we not been playing our best team to get them used to playin with each other.

Voronin has played nearly every game and we all know he isn't going to get a look in when the season actually starts.

We've mainly played 442 in preseason (I know its only the way we write in on a piece of paper) yet we go back to  4 2 4 5 7 14 5 last night or whatever it was

We still have no width..  I thought Rafa said he wasnted to get the width from the full backs.. yeh right.. I reckon Risse would have done a better job than Dossena both attacking and defending.. The new lad looks woeful.

Please don't say its early days..  We where at the exact same point at Std last night and they looked well better than us.

Have we made any ground on Man U and Chelsea?  I don't think so...

Rant over!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

i agree the whole team was poor mate, but like i keep saying these are one offs while kuyt is consistently bad, i really dont understand why people try and defend the clown, he is not good enough for us  and i fear he will get as much game time as he has done the last few seasons. even last night he stood out as poor while the whole team was gash.

and to be fair its not kuyts fault he gets picked, we have to look at rafas judgment for that

He has more good games than you give him credit for. And how does it work that because the rest of the team was poor that you're expecting more of Kuyt?!?!?!? You say he does nothing with the ball, how the hell can he do anything without it?

Come on S@int, I was hoping you'd have a comment on Kuyt - not that the topic is the "Kuyt Bashing Thread MK IV"
