Newkit player of the month OCTOBER

Games:

Swansea (A)
Manchester United (H)
WBA (H)
Tottenham (EFL CUP) (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

Candidate:                        Rating:                   Games played:

Joel Matip                              7                            4
Dejan Lovren                         6.7                          4
James Milner                         6.8                          3
Phillipe Coutinho                   7.1                          4
Roberto Firmino                     7.2                         4

And the winner is..........    ROBERTO FIRMINO….  It was a close call between the two Brazilians but Firmino takes the award. The 2 goals and 2 assists aside, he deserves it with his outstanding work-rate alone.

Great work mate, any player who averages 7 or above over a whole month has done incredibly well, especially given that we on newkit are pretty conservative with our marks (which is a good thing imo, we don't want to be giving out marks of 7 or 8 for average performances).
It's always a nice touch when you don't include a flop of the match after a fine team performance as well.

Cheers guys. And yes, agreed with all of that Yakka.

About the games that don't include a flop, I think it would be rather unfair towards a player to be named "flop" if he averaged a 6 for example. Usually I try not to name a flop in a game unless there's a player with an average rating lower than 5.5.

Liverpool v Watford Sun Nov 6th

Karius - 7.5 - best game in a red shirt so far. Deserved a clean sheet with his performance today
Clyne - 7 - had a good game, not much to do at the back
Matip - 7 - likewise
Lucas - 7 - same
Milner - 7 - standard
Henderson - 7 - no goals or assists but really a key figure in Klopp's team with his work-rate
Can - 7 - think he can play better than he's been playing lately but he's banging in the goals so can't complain
Lallana - 7.5 - slowly coming back to his pre-injury form. Good performance and two assists for him
Mane - 8 - worked hard and scored a couple
Coutinho - 8.5 - simply unplayable when he's on form
Firmino - 7.5 - feels like he's scoring and assisting in every game now

Subs:
Wijnaldum - 6.5 - nice to see him finally get on the score sheet for us
Sturridge - 7 - unlucky not to score at least one
Ejaria - n/a - though he could have been brought in a bit earlier

KARIUS - 7 made some good saves today which should help his confidence, after a slow start he's improving by the week
CLYNE - 7.5 super consistent and a super player
MATIP - 7.5 looks like the second coming of Sami Hyypia
LUCAS - 7 considering he's barely played and he's not a natural CM he did really well up against two tricky customers in Deeney and Ighalo
MILNER - 6.5 did well but had a bit of trouble containing the lively Amrabat
HENDERSON - 8 thought he had a great game, puts fires out all over the pitch, he's playing like a Liverpool captain.
CAN - 7 tries to do a bit too much sometimes but he does put his heart and his soul into his performances, well placed header too, seen plenty of those ballooned over the bar.
LALLANA - 7.5 two assists and brings that rare combination of skill and graft to the table
MANE - 8 scored 2 and played really, really well. Gives us so much.
COUTINHO - 8.25 you get the sense that he's heading towards genuine world class status
FIRMINO - 7.5 like Lallana he grafts like a water carrying CM but has the silky creative skills of an old fashioned scheming inside forward. Our front 4 really are a joy to watch.

KARIUS - 7. Relatively untroubled. Can't fault him for the goal but we need to eventually keep a clean sheet!
CLYNE - 7.5. Getting back to his best.
MATIP - 8. I'm starting to really warm up to this guy. Looks an excellent Defender
LUCAS - 7. Did well.
MILNER - 7. Miles better than Moreno in the left back role. I feel our defence is more secure when he is playing.
HENDERSON - 8. Excellent throughout.
CAN - 7. Still a little off the pace... but getting better. In the big games though, I still have concerns with Him and Hendo in the middle.
LALLANA - 8. This season, he finally looks like the player he was at Southampton
MANE - 8. Superb signing and played brilliant. We are gonna miss him when he is off to the ANC.
COUTINHO - 8.5. Nothing to say except wonderful. Long may it continue. We're gonna miss him and Firminio when they are off too.
FIRMINO - 8. Suits Klopp's system to a "T".

KLOPP - 8.5. Superb.

I am truly worried when our front 3 are away on international duties. Sturridge cannot play like Firminio and we have no one who has the pace and guile to replace Mane.

Karius - 7 - Solid, made some good reflex saves.
Clyne - 7.5 - Dependable and establishing a good track record.
Matip - 7.5 - Maturing into the team, good long term prospect.
Lucas - 7 - Mr Dependable.
Milner - 7.5 - Best form of his life, what a star.
Henderson - 7 - He'll never set the world alight but good at what he does.
Can - 7 - Getting back into form, needs another month.
Lallana - 8 - Great lad, star of the team.
Mane - 8 - Key.. when he shines the team is unbeatable.
Coutinho - 8.5 - maturing into a senior role and senior player. 100% respect.
Firmino - 7.5 - Playing off the back of a good team around him.

Subs:
Wijnaldum - 6.5 - Difficult to shine at this stage of his career
Sturridge - 7.5 - Best impact sub in the game, what a star!
Ejaria - n/a -
