no european experience :D

I want Rafa so long as it saves us 16 million

He won the European cup 3 times as a player ..... might count as a little european experience ?

Also beat Barca in the CL WITH NEWCASTLE!

It may cost us a lot more than £16million in the long term if he stays mate.

Liverpool won NOTHING the season before Dalglish took over. In his first season we won the league and FA cup double....... he bought one player.

All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

That might be true Saint but you can't compare the game then to now. Times have changed. Torres and Mascherano have said we need better players or else they will go and Gerrard could well go too if we don't show some ambition. Do you think if any of those 3 left we could recover let alone improve?

That's a big ask mate and to be honest it's near impossible. City will probably spend big again this summer and will be even stronger for next season, maybe Spurs too. The lack of quality in the squad is shockingly bad mate and until that is addressed we will not win anything.

Sorry mate but thats b0llocks. When Dalglish took over Newcastle were just going to float the club on the stock market. Dalglish was told to get the balance sheet looking good so he had to sell a lot of the best players and bring in free transfer players like Rushie, Barnes and Shey Given etc etc.

I cant remember Kenny's reign as Newcastle boss mate, I was only a bairn then - I just remember them finishing second once or twice and have a couple of decent cup runs, as well as a few famous European nights. Cant rmember them specifically winning anything tho :D

So that means they will go whether Rafa or Dalglish is the manager. We can't do ANYTHING ABOUT THAT mate. The only thing we can do is bring in a manager who can do more with less.

Rafa has got us to 7th place WITH Torres, Gerrard and Mascherano, I think Dalglish could do better than that without them if forced.

In the Premier League:

In the 1995-1996 season Newcastle finished 2nd, 4 points behind the winners, the Manc's.

Dalglish took over mid-way through the following season on the 7th January 1997. At that point they were in 4th position, 7 points behind the leaders, Liverpool. They finished the season in 2nd place, 7 points behind the winners, the Manc's.

In the following season, Dalglish's first full season as Newcastle manager, Newcastle finished in 13th place, 34 points behind the winners Arsenal.

Two games and two draws into the 1998-1999 season he was sacked by chairman Freddy Shepherd. Ruud Gullit then took over for the rest of the season and guided them to another 13th place finish, 33 points behind the winners, the Manc's. (Gullit also led Newcastle to another FA cup final where they were again defeated 2-0, this time by the Manc's.)

In Europe:

On taking over in January 1997 Newcastle were in the Q/F of the UEFA cup; a two-legged tie against Monaco which they lost 4-0 on aggregate.

In 1997-1998, after beating Croatia Zagreb 4-3 on aggregate to qualify for the group stages of the UCL. Newcastle finished third in their group behind Dinamo Kiev and PSV, and ahead of Bacelona who finished bottom.

In the FA cup:

His side played two FA cup games in 1997 after he took over, a 2-1 third round replay defeat of Charlton at home, a 2-1 fourth round home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The following season he guided his team to the FA cup final, defeating in the following order Everton (0-1), Stevenage Borough (a 2-1 replay), Tranmere Rovers (1-0), Barnsley (3-1), Sheffield United (1-0), before going down 2-0 to Arsenal at the final hurdle.

So in a season and a half he got them to second in the league and to an F.A. CUP FINAL..... as I said.

MON, Mourinho, Hodgson, Kenny favourites to take over. I hope whoever comes in gets a decent chance in what is going to be a difficult environment to work. Outside bet - Steve McClaren, could win the dutch league with FC Twente this weekend and would be cheap which would suit the owners. Could you imagine the uproar?

Hopefully no chance of McClaren getting the job, MON always gets mentioned for top jobs but never gets one, Hodgson not sure he has won enough, leaving Kenny or Mourinho ........ either would do.   :D

Another way to look at it would be to say in the short-term he did a good job in maintaining the level Newcastle were already at, but lost that progress in a big way in his first full season because they finished 13th.

As I have already said he was forced to sell a lot of their better players bringing in free transfers as the club was floated on the stock market.

If City get fourth and Chelsea win the league it's likely Mancini and Ancelotti will remain in post. Assuming Ferguson and Wenger don't leave we're the only show in town if Mourinho really wants to return to the Premiership. Is he likely to be tempted by Madrid though? Are we too big a risk for him to take? Is he a longterm solution or will he get bored, fallout with the board/owners and leave in a couple of seasons? He would certainly be one of a few managers who could keep our world class players at Anfield.
