MARTIN KELLY - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby metalhead » Mon Nov 08, 2010 12:12 am

I don't want to get carried away, like with Insua, who also impressed when he started his first few games with us, but Kelly looks like he will be a very important player for us in the future. He dominated in the air today, even against Drogba. His game reading and his tackles were impressive. He has the potential to be as good as Carragher or even better, but he just needs to work a bit harder and fine tune his skills on the ball and get some game experience. I wouldn't be surprised if he moves to center back in a couple of years, he looks built for that position and his aerial ability is useful.

looks like a good prospect :buttrock

Was at the game today, and i am so made up for this lad!

Seemed to win alot of balls in the air and i seriously thought he was Carragher 90% of the time...

He seems like he can make the cut and i have 100?% confidence in him being the next jamie!

I NEVER saw Insua put in a tackle like the one Kelly did in the 2nd half today.  It was great to see him growing in stature.  I'm not getting carried away either, but he's got promise.

Hasn't he also previously played some games in central defence for the reserves? I seem to remember reading so but haven't really watched any reserve games myself. Might definitely be an option in the future, though for now it is just nice to have some serious competition for Johnson at rb.

He deserves it after that performance. Our 18 million quid right back hasn't played as well as that all season unfortunately :(.

Give him a decent haircut and he will be as right as rain. :;):

I hope Kelly plays against Wigan though. He has earned another starting place IMO.

Maybe he should go bald as the rest of the team :D

Anyways I hope the story about a new contract is true. We really need to tie down our own academy products when some do finally make the step up which Kelly seems to be doing.

he certainly does. Deciding to replace him with our 18 million quid right back can't have been an easy choice for Roy today. Kelly is arguably a better defender, and although Johnson offers much more going forward when playing somewhere near his ability, he quite simply hasn't done so for a long time.
