Reds agree Emre Can deal in principle

Liverpool FC have today agreed a deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen to sign 20-year-old Emre Can, subject to documentation being completed.

A versatile German youth international, the Frankfurt-born midfielder made 29 Bundesliga appearances last season, scoring three goals.

His contributions helped Leverkusen finish fourth and secure Champions League qualification, having joined the club from Bayern Munich last summer.

Can clocked up seven appearances in Europe's elite competition during 2013-14, and has previously played at the European U21 Championship and the U17 World Cup.

The news follows the announcement on Monday of England striker Rickie Lambert as the Reds' first signing of the summer transfer window.

Emre Can has officially signed for the best club in the world, welcome on board

Will turn out to be another shrewd signing this. Young and extremely versatile.

Welcome to the club Emre.
Btw what's the score with this buy back clause Bayern Munich have reportedly got? Can they re-sign him again even if we want to keep him?

There is no way the buy back clause will be still active once he signs for us.
It was a clause with Leverkusen to buy him back from them.

Welcome to the club!
I hope you do well.

10 million for this guy is not a good deal imo,
20 years old and another "value signing", not a clear 1st team addition.

Not sure if you can compare. Luis Alberto was playing in Barcelona B before we signed him. Emre was a first team regular with Leverkusen.

Hopefully not another Iago Aspas. Not very excited about the signing but welcome to the club

Cheers Ben, with the clause being in there though you'd imagine Leverkusen must have notified Bayern that they were selling him on (thus their clause becomes void)

Watched a fair bit of him last season and he is a very impressive player, awesome engine on the guy and could be worth 3 times what we paid for him in a couple of years

How many of our signings have we said this about over the years...

Either he's got it or he hasn't, I'm not convinced or I doubt Munich would have let him leave and if they had, they'd have tried to re sign him. Is he really going to be a massive improvement on Lucas or Allen? I want someone in who's going to improve the side, not make up the numbers.

I have never seen the lad play, but can't say I'm all that optimistic.

I can see why Stu isnt optimistic.

We havent done very well at all when signing players like this and last summers wasted money is pretty fresh in the memory.

It's hard to have an opinion on him as I havent seen him play once.

But like metalhead has said he has already played a full season in the bundesliga and champions league football.
Alberto had only played second division in Spain.

I am not massively excited at this stage but he could surprise us all.

Let's be fair he will surely have more energy and legs than Lucas in that position.
