I hope it comes off.. the lad if treated right and brought on in his game has the potential to be our best right back since Stevie Nichol.

Or maybe Rob Jones..... legend!

Kyle Naughton looks a top prospect.

but can we gamble like that ?

Moyes will probably get him to everton where he will turn out decent, but he wont have to play champions league games and compete (hopefuly) for the title while he gets experience.

Again i am really happy with Johnson.

If and when he signs he should prove a good player, there are no guarantees but he looks capable.

More money down the drain.

Find someone in the Championship who is close to Englands 1st choice RB? If only it were that easy mate.  :D

England are not exactly spoilt for choice at right back are they? Gary Neville who has played about 7 games in 2 years for his club, Micah Richards who has had a woeful season and has looked like a pub player, Luke Young who sat on the bench for half the season before finding his way back into the team as a left back, errrrrrrrr…..and that’s about it.

There are plenty of fast, attacking right backs in the lower leagues that we could get for next to nothing. There really is no point spending 17 Mil on a full back just because he is fast and strong.

Put it this way, if we wanted a fast and strong right back who bombs forward to support the attack but is not very good at defending, we could have got Emmanuel Eboue for free rather than spend £17 Mil on Johnson. Is there really that much difference between them?

I’m not a fan of either but it really does put in to perspective.

The same thing could have been said about Upson. “If Birmingham’s centre back was as good as the England centre backs he wouldn’t be Birmingham’s centre back”.

Now look at him, only behind Terry and Ferdinand. And how about Ashley Young when he was at Watford? Dean Ashton when he was at Crewe?

Your theory is b0llocks.

Parry would have said that, blocked the transfer and signed another Dossena for 9 mill.

I think Johnson is a good player but the price Portsmouth want for him is a little to much.

Upson was overrated then and he's overrated now.

He's only 3rd choice for England now because Woodgate and King are crocked and Carra's retired.  And personally I'd still have players like Lescott, Jagielka, Wheater and possibly even an ageing Sol Campbell ahead of him.  He's done nothing.

I’m not a fan of either but it really does put in to perspective.

This I completely agree with.

Eboue was a good attacking full back before Wenger bought Sagna and then destroyed the lad's confidence by playing him right mid where he was clearly uncomfortable.

Eboue for free and Johnson for 17 mil and you're absolutely right, there's not a great deal of difference between them.

my theory was a little exagerated. If u think that rafa could find sum1 in the championship 'not far off' johnson qualitly then u r deluded. Firstly every club would b in 4 him meaning he wud b over priced, specialy 4 an unproven raw talent, bcos of this you would b moanin just like you are now about us paying over the odds 4 an unproven player, at this level, who may not cut it. Secondly u would b moaning because we r buyin young unproven lads when our rivals r buying internationals. My isse with ur example is that when the players u quoted were bought by bigger clubs they were poor and no where near johnsons quality and do nt hav his experience. If we bought sum1 who was 1 for the future then again u would be moaning as we should b buying for now nt the future. I am sure u want us 2 b buying the best talent, i am sure u want us 2spend big 2get international players from under our rivals noses and i am sure u want us 2 b buying the best of english talent.

I second that, come on guys you talk of Wenger destroying 's Eboues confidence, your trying to do that before he's even joined us. Don't forget he will be playing in a far superior defence at Liverpool which will only improve him as a defender

Johnson is coming end of story. Get over it and stop moaning people. He is a proven premiership player and is Englands 1st hcoice RB what :censored: more do you want? Someone said it perfectly earlier, if he was Spanish or Italian people would be drooling over him. Yes he is expensive but what player isnt right now.
