No.  But I know a rip off when I see it.

And judging by your posting record on here lad I know a damn sight more than you

Johnson is nowhere near as good as Dani Alves... a good attacking fullback but lets not get carried away here...
Hes about as good going forward as the likes of Eboue, Zanbrotta, Miguel and Sagnol... Alves, Maicon, Bosingwa, Sagna, Lahm and the likes are a class apart i'd say ..
The way i see it, its not the fact that hes english and not italian or spanish that makes me doubt that hes worth such a fee, its the fact that hes english, thus overpriced and not to mention overhyped that makes me think that we would have been better off looking elsewhere given the money we were ready to spend ....

He is far better than Eboue.

Also why is Sagna so good ?

Gets forward yes and is decent but i dont recall many goals or assists.
Lahm who so many rave over is also not the best defensively.

What alot on here dont seem to be considering is that Johnson if he signs whilst being a right back, his primary function may well not be to defend but to support Dirk and create space for Gerrard and the rest of the midfield.

He could and if we get him will do that imo.

Arbeloa hasnt done it enough despite being steady. At some point we need to gamble.

We all attack Rafa for being too conservative but the first sign of going the other way and he is still getting moaned about.

I think its a positive step, one that shows he is going for wins rather than avoiding defeat.

My only gripe is the fee which is OTT without a doubt.

I just saw a tony adams interveiw on ssn, he says he thinks johnson is a great player but he`s the type of guy who needs a constant arm round the shoulder and someone telling him how great he is all the time.
Oh dear.

Bollox.

When it's the January transfer window and you're crying about wanting to sell him, remember this.

I've said it before but...

Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend.Can't defend.  Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend. Can't defend.

Nationality has FU.CK all to do with it, that's a lazy, lazy argument.

I don't think you have nationality issues but football issues, which is nice. I don't know Johnson well, I'm learning from what you lot are writing, I don't like youtube.

Among other things, Arbeloa has increased his value because he seems good enough defending. He's an international, but his position is the cheapest to get in Spain, no great RB these days around here.

Arbeloa seems good enough defending, because his team doesn't expose him much. So if defending is the weak link of Johnson I'm not too worried because that wasn't Arbeloa's forte neither. Arbeloa wouldn't have been an international had he stayed at Deportivo or gone to Sevilla. He has become an international because he plays for Liverpool, and because his team makes him seem better than he really is: An ok player.

Give him 10 games of truce mate  :)

im happy about him coming... not delighted mind you but i think its a good move.... price is deffo ridiculous but its a positive step regardless...
My only point was that at the given price we would have been able to afford someone better...

and Ace, Lahm isnt the best defensively but hes better than Johnson in that department i have no doubt about that... Sagna is a better allround fullback, and thats hard to dispute too.... Arbeloa hasnt done enough going forward and Johnson is a step up...etc .. i agree with all that...

Actually my main concern about Arbeloa is not him not getting himself in goood attacking positions (because he did more often than not last season imo), its his inability to put in a decent cross or do anything creative with the ball even if he does have space and time in a good position... hopefully this is where Johnson and his better attacking qualities makes the difference, but ill be waiting to see how we go about our defending next season... Skrtel and Agger dont have the best awareness or positioning and with Johnson bombing forward it will be interesting to see how we deal with being stretched at the back If we give opposition more spaces than we usually do.. add to that the possibility that Alonso ot Mascherano or both might be leaving and we could be looking like a totally different side next season... Best thing about our side since Rafa took over has been our defensive discipline and how we leave opposition with very little time and space on the ball to actually do anything with it... dont think Rafa would be willing to give that up easily, nor should he.

Whats all the fuss about this Sagna guy?  ???

I watched him in quite a few arsenal games and he seemed worse than Arbeloa tbh and he goes flying into tackles all the time.

He got a red card not that long ago for kicking out at someone, I think Johnson is much better.

If we found somebody who was willing to pay 7 million quid for Sebastian Leto then there is a lunatic on the loose. Far more likely though is that the story is utter b0ll0cks.

Yes it appears they've matched our offer to Pompey and that the final decision will lie with the player. Many of our fans will be pretty happy I think if we miss out on him at 17.5 million, so it'll be interesting to see how he goes wherever he ends up. We're probably goign to need at least one right back anyway I should think. Arby sounds like his spirit is back in Spain even if it's not been finalised yet (and good luck to him he's been a good servant to the club has that fella), while Deggen is perpetually injured and Darby possibly not good enough.

If it ultimately isn't to be Johnson, we'll have to find somebody else. If that is/was true that Emanuel Ebouie is available on a free, he might well be the best shout. I quite liked him when he first came through and before their fans starting booing him and all that sh!t.

Yes he is still a Liverpool player Max. He went on loan to Olympiakos...... supposedly for two years but was returned because of discipline problems. He has since been refused a work permit again, so will be unavailable for the first team anyway.

If we manage to sell him I doubt it will be for anything like £7million mate. Not that he is supposedly such a bad player, just that he has had little opportunity to show what he has got.

No thanx Mick :D If he fecks up he will be treated worst than Lucas.

Rafa should have gone with Lescott he wanted him in January should have pursued it.
