GLEN JOHNSON - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Totallt agree there Bavlondon, if it was some full back from Europe that played for a portsmouth like team everyone wud be drooling over him!

We were looking at Rafinha there last year and everyone wanted him, even though the majority of people hadnt seen him play!!!

We bought a full back last year who was breaking into the Italian team and got him for £6-7m and everyone thought it was great business and a sure thing to succeed, and we were droolin over youtube clips of him! Look how he turned out, Dossena is muck!!!

Theres no better full back in the premiership or championship that we could have got for less money! Glen Johnson can hit the ground running as hes experienced in the premiership which means none of this bedding in period as we cant wait waround for players to settle in a new league and learn a new language etc! Johnson is the first choice right back for england and could be for years to come! Hes quick, powerful, great attacker, young, english and obviously eager to progress and learn! Rafa will also improve the defensive side of his game! Hes also never been in the tabloids and has never had a tag on his ankle!!!!

He is joining us, so lets give him the respect/support he deserves at our famous club!!

Haven't read the full thread so this may have pointed out....

Pompey owe us for Crouch, so his fee won't be what we actually pay.  If we sell Arby too for £8m, which I don't what to do by the way, then Johnson is actually costing about £4m

That logic is clearly flawed.

The money owed for Crouch is money we would eventually get
and same if we ever sold Arbeloa and has nothing to do
with Johnson.

Johnson will cost 17-18 million no matter how you sugarcoat it.

It's ridiculous people saying- they own us £?m so it's not costing us anything. Unless we've become a charity of course we're going to chase clubs for our money. If we're going to write the debt off against the purchase it just means that rather than them giving us the £?m and us giving it back ,it'll just be contra'd against the purchase.

I think Johnson will be a good signing but it's still going to cost us £17m or whatever the agreed price is- but that's the amount you'll pay for a good english player!

Bollox.

When it's the January transfer window and you're crying about wanting to sell him, remember this.

I've said it before but...

Am happy to wait and see with this one.

One thing i am sure of is that he will give us extra attacking threat down the right.
That will do for me.

it might just be me but i think the point most are making but not very clearly is yes he'll cost £17m or whatever the fee is but with the money Pompey owe is it only cost £10m or whatever out of this years budget

Oh were you the one saying the same about Dossena? It's weird how Capello and Rafa have faith in the Johnson isn't it but of course you know far more about football than them.  :no  :no

I think the same as you, he will be worth every penny.

He just gives us that extra attacking edge that will really help us break down a stubborn defence and is far better than Arbeloa imo.
