Well, you heard wrong.

In terms of prize money, the bottom team in the Prem gets roughly £500,000 (the winners get approx £10m).
TV money for all teams in the Prem works out at roughly £12m a season.

Compare that with our losing run to the Champions League final - this brought us around £55m. If we'd have won, this would have been closer to £60m.

Premiership shares £900m TV windfall
By David Bond, Chief Sports Reporter
Last Updated: 2:00am GMT 18/01/2007

The winner of next season's Premiership will collect at least £50 million    as a huge cash windfall from a new global television deal spills over into the pockets of England's top 20 football clubs.

Chelsea's John Terry is close to negotiating a weekly wage of £125,000, say reports

News of the vast pay-day for the clubs came after its administrators concluded negotiations for overseas television and media rights which doubled their previous arrangement.

The £625 million deal negotiated by Richard Scudamore, the Premier League's chief executive, is on top of the £1.7 billion domestic deal agreed last May with Sky and Setanta, the Irish broadcaster.

Since then, the league has added £400 million from internet and mobile phone rights, taking the total to £2.1 billion.

From the start of the 2007/2008 season the league will earn £900 million a year for the next three years — which is equivalent to the profits expected to be made by Marks & Spencer this year.

Chelsea, the reigning Premiership champions, were paid £30.4 million last season for winning the title, their second in succession. That is likely to be matched by the bottom team next season.

The figure comprises a mix of television revenue and prize money shared out depending on where teams finish in the league and how many times they are featured on television.

advertisementThe £50 million the 2008 winner will receive will be made up of prize money, known unromantically as a merit payment, of around £15 million and the share of television rights.

By contrast, Italy won £10.9 million for lifting last year's World Cup and Barcelona, winners of the Champions League, took £4.1 million.

The league's new deals are still some way short of the £1.5 billion a year paid to American football teams for competing in the NFL — which has negotiated the most lucrative television and media rights deal in global sport.

Each team in the NFL gets about £50 million from the rights deals, although there is no extra prize for winning the Superbowl, the ultimate annual prize.

As David Beckham's extraordinary £128 million move to play football in Los Angeles has demonstrated, the global growth in the popularity of the English game is threatening to pose a serious challenge to American sport.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Mr Scudamore said: "This deal really does take us on to another level. It means that the team at the top who got £30 million last year will get around £50 million while even those at the bottom will receive about £30 million."

This compares to between £16 and £19 million for the teams relegated in 2006.

Mr Scudamore added: "Big clubs in other major footballing nations such as Real Madrid might negotiate big deals for themselves but this deal is to be shared across the board by all our teams."

The huge influx of television cash will inevitably lead to fresh calls for tighter controls on the way clubs spend their money.

There will be fears that the increase in revenue will be transferred directly to the salaries commanded by the top players and the fees paid to their agents.

John Terry, the England captain, is close to negotiating a new deal at Chelsea which will make him the highest paid player in the country on a weekly wage of £125,000.

A new European review of the sport has called for clubs to be forced to spend a fixed percentage of their turnover on wages and transfer fees.

But Mr Scudamore said that he was confident that lessons had been learned from the near financial collapse of clubs such as Leeds United, which went into administration after spending too much money on players' wages.

He said: "The clubs are better governed now than they were. Chairmen want the same as fans, to get the best players for the cheapest price available."

Grass-roots projects will also benefit greatly from the new television deals due to an agreement negotiated by the Government, which will guarantee £38 million for new pitches, coaches and facilities across the country.

It's all relative though isn't it. Everyone will be getting increased income from TV rights so we still need Champions League money to increase our ability to spend.

The only thing giving everyone money achieves is inflation.

Benitez says he is already planning for next season and has set up deals for three new arrivals.

The Spaniard's revelation outlines his belief that he will remain at Anfield next season despite continuing reports linking Benitez with a move back to Spain.

Benitez revealed that two of the arrivals will be young players, while the third signing will be a senior star set to go straight into the side.

"We have agreements with two young players and one senior player who will be a starting XI player," Benitez told The Mail on Sunday.

"That deal is already done. We are also making plans for our preseason tour and talking to players here about new contracts."

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Schalke's Brazilian full-back Rafinha and the two other targets are believed to be from South America.

Precisely, and using the financial reward of simply being in the Premiership as a point against the financial gains of the Champions League is laughable.

Why? Because we're not fighting to stay in the Premier League, and the increment for each place gained is only £500,000. Financially, the difference between finishing fourth and first is minimal in this respect. In terms of TV money, the difference is inconsequential between the top teams.

Post up any article, it doesn't alter the fact that it is a moot point.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has urged some sort of swift resolution. "My plea is that something happens this week,'' he said.

"There is a need for a degree of urgency but it is urgent to get it right, not urgent to come up with the wrong solution.
"I think George was pretty clear in stating the relationship between the two of them had broken down and, as a result of that, an alternative solution needs to be found.
"There is no question that to succeed you need unity at the top. I think it brings it to a head. All things are possible at the moment. Someone has to sell, that is clear if they are not able to co-exist.''

Parry tells warring Liverpool FC owners that one of them must sell upMar 31 2008
by Richard Down, Liverpool Daily Post

LIVERPOOL FC chief executive Rick Parry has told warring club owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett that one of them needs to sell up.
His comments follow Gillett’s revelations that his partnership with fellow American Tom Hicks had become “unworkable”.
Speaking on national BBC radio, Parry said: “If they're not able to co-exist, then there needs to be a solution where one buys and one sells, or both sell.

“There aren't too many other possibilities, but it's pretty clear that to carry on with the status quo is extremely difficult.
“There is no question that to succeed you need unity at the top, unity at the club, and everyone pulling in the same direction.
“Without that, it is extremely difficult to progress and it is clear from what George has said the unity is not there.
“George has been pretty unequivocal in what he has said. You have to think he thought long and hard before coming out with the statement he made on Friday, it did not leave room for doubt.”

The chief executive is reported to be pleased the admission brings the situation to a head, but insists immediate action is needed.

What a :censored: groveller that Parry is All this time hes never opend his gob now it looks like somethings happenin he resurfices . The Gobs.ite should start clearin his desk cause hes gonna be the first one out the door.

1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.
