well I just hope they don't build the New Anfield off the coast...  :D

most people are amazed by all the developments that comes up in Dubai... I'm not impressed at all... just imagine the amount of damage they're doing to the environment... the buildings are not sustainable at all save by oil money... the latest is some rotating/twisting skyscraper... how much energy would you need to rotate that damn thing... absolutely ridiculous...

I can just see it now, the new Anfield in the middle of the Mersey!!   :p

Cue the place going made if nothing's been announced within 28 days.

People should stop mentioning any kind of timeframe. I can't remember the last time anything promised to happen by such and such a date actually worked out.

Damn I'll have to cough up my £5000 then, actually that would be a pleasure  :D
I'm not sure it will happen though, but would be good.

They won't need any energy. Each tower has wind turbines built in to provide enough energy for 10 towers.

Rotating tower

I think it's safe to say that if DIC do take over we'll be getting an extremely impressive stadium.

that's what they'll tell ya mate... :;):

From Shankly to Brendan we follow our team, Rome to Istanbul we've all lived the dream. Our journey is long, our goal stays the same, to keep for our children the famous red name.

At the end of the day the stadium design doesn't really matter all that much, it's the team that plays in it that really matters.

Reina wasn't at fault for that cross.

He was distracted by the orange Ferengi who apparently is called Wes Brown.

GILLETE

Gillett launches MLS bid
Liverpool co-owner eyes alternative business ventures

Unsettled Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has launched a bid for a Major League Soccer franchise.

Gillett has teamed up with the owner of second division team Montreal Impact with a view to bringing a top-flight team to the city.

Impact president Joey Saputo has confirmed he is holding discussions with Gillett with a view to a deal which would see the pair split the $30million (£15m) franchise as well as sharing the cost of a $12m (£6m) expansion of the Saputo Stadium.

"I can confirm that we are in discussions with Gillett Entertainment Group as well as with Major League Soccer to bring an MLS franchise to Montreal," Saputo told the Daily Telegraph.

Anfield uncertainty

The move will throw Gillett's future at Liverpool into further doubt as uncertainty continues to surround his situation on Merseyside.

Gillett joined forces with fellow American Tom Hicks in February 2007 to buy Liverpool, but the pair have endured an unsettled relationship.

Dubai International Capital were keen to buy Gillett's half of the Premier League club earlier in March after he admitted he was unsettled at Anfield, but Hicks broke off discussions.

However, this latest venture suggests Gillett remains keen to look for alternative business opportunities.

Gillett has also held a majority share in the Montreal Canadiens ice hockey team since 2001.

I can well believe that it is Hicks who is the true kunt!

I can no longer work with Tom Hicks, says George Gillett Jr

George Gillett Jr has delivered a damning endictment on his relationship with Tom Hicks, his co-owner at Liverpool, admitting that their partnership has become untenable.

The American claims that Hicks's refusal to sell his stake in the club to Dubai International Capital (DIC) for £400 million has led to Gillett's family receiving death threats. Gillett said he also made an offer to sell his share of the club to Hicks, but his partner took too long to make a decision.

In an interview given to Prime Time Sports Radio in Canada, Gillett Jr said: "This partnership [with Hicks] has been unworkable for some time.

“We gave our partner a long period of time to try to make arrangements to buy us out. We didn’t put pressure on him but he ultimately did not get to the finishing line.

“Because of the things he said, the fans’ reaction has been so negative to him that if we sold to him it has been made untenable for us.

“He threatened to block me selling to Dubai - that was certainly one of the things that made the fans upset."

Gillett added that he believes selling to DIC would put the Anfield club in safe hands. "Lord knows DIC have the means with the oil prices going up every day that money was not even an issue," he said. "I think they would have been very responsible owners. But making that not possible or difficult didn’t endear [Hicks] to the fans."

Revealing the fury that the Liverpool supporters have shown since the owners made an approach for Jurgen Klinsmann to replace Rafael Benitez, the manager, Gillett added: "We get as many as 2,000 emails a week. Ninety five per cent of them have been directed at some of the comments made by my partner.

“The fans don’t want him to have even one share of my stake in the club, based on what they are sending to me. As a result of that we have received many phone calls in the middle of the night threatening our lives, death threats. A number came to the office and my son, Foster, and daughter-in-law, Lauren, have received them.”

Gillett did not reveal what he planned to do with his half share of Liverpool now, but said there were “pieces on the chess board moving”.

“What I do know is that the fans and the fabled history of this club deserves better, and we are going to do whatever we can to prove that,” he said.
