That was Maxi Rodriguez, having said that - Mascherano did score a couple in the Copa America last summer, and a real cracker for River Plate in his earlier days.

I'm afraid I can't even claim to have got the two tournaments mixed up, I didn't see the copa america goals. Ah well   :upside:

[quote="god_bless_john_houlding"]They may not of been the world stars that Benitez has brought in, but they were still good buys.

Exactly, where was the world class players he kept promising, the next Zz, Viera etc?Fact is everytime he spent big and anything around the 10m mark was big he f*cked it up and as good as wasted the money, not one of those players took us closer to the title. The youth team was neglected and the reserves was full of highly paid flops happy to pick up their money every week.
Im sorry look at the team Rafa inhereted and tell me GH has anything on him when it comes to the transfers and it took him SIX YEARS to put that side together.

For me Houllier did bring in some talent. Fair enough he made a lot of :censored: ups, but people musn't forget the players who were success stories. Hyypia is being tipped as our player of the season, Houllier signed him nine years ago for less than 5 million. Credit where it's due, Houllier got it spot on with Sami.

4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Wow! One success in how many millions wasted? Don't forget we still have Riise and Kewell, most of the other players left to Rafa by Houllier were so good he sold them
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

I'm sure we got little or no money what so ever for most of the player GH left behind and saying
that i bet some of them are still on the clubs books :(  playing for some crappy clube somewhere.

Most of the first team players Benitez has signed they were that good he's sold them as well.

And one success? I take it Babbel, Henchoz, Hamman, Riise, Barmby, Litmanen, Finnan and to some extent Baros, Westerveld and Smicer were just a waste a time eh?

Well to be fair to Houllier, you can deduct the £14 million paid for Cisse because Houllier was sacked before he even got the chance to play Cisse.

But amongst those, there were some bad buys.

Pelligrino, Itandje, Paletta, Morientes, Bellamy, Sissoko, Aurellio, Baragan, Kuyt, Fowler, Voronin, Kromkamp, Josemi, Nunez, Leto, Pennant (in many peoples opinion) Padelli, Zenden, Gonzalez. What's it prove?

gonzalez, palleta, and morientes never adapted.
pellegrino was past is. still is.
josemi and kromkamp were brought in to make up for the numbers
nunez was part of the owen deal
padelli was on loan
itandge just arrived so its kinda early
voronin has been out more or less injured but i recall he had a rather good start.
bellamy IMO did a good job as what was required of him
if not for Fowler, a lot of games including ones against blackburn would have ended 0-0
zenden is past his best but he was still very useful
barragan didnt wanna stay it seems but he is very highly rated
aurelio is back from injuries and he provides good cover
leto has hardly been playing at all due to work permit issues if im not wrong
kuyt isnt my fave at all. but with the new formation, he has done his job well.
momo did a very good job here though he faded since his eye injury

i wouldnt put sissoko in there he was very good for us and we got a profit when we sold him, plus pennant is a good player not great but he has his uses, auerillo is a good player and will show that if he can stay fit
the thing is benitez never over spends he always makes sure he can make the money back if a player does not succed
