Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

To those of you who think a boycott would have no effect  i ask this , "how hard do you think it would be for hicks to bring in other partners without the gate money ?
just one game might be enough as just the knowledge that we did it once and so could do it again would  frighten off any of hicks potential buddies from thinking they could join the feast and bleed us dry.

To those who oppose boycotts and talk of team moral, getting fourth place etc, the ones who say "jus get bee ind de fuk!n team" and "if i don't buy a ticket someone else will," i say  thank god people never took this attitude and thought if i dont buy the S*N   someone else will.
So i ask this what are u gonna tell ur grand kids in the future when Liverpool as we know it now no longer exists   are you going to say.??

"i was there at the end  son i was cheering , and the team moral was great we won those few games and got fourth!

"but grandad there is no team now cos that nasty man took all the money"

"Yes son but the team moral was great those last few games"

LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE PEOPLE

We can still cheer the boys on , let them know we love them
but lets just do it from outside the ground.

We have the chance to make history here fellas, to do what the mancs failed to do, to say enough is enough it stops now! Just imagine the amount of media coverage a boycott would generate all around the world ( even out in Texas) the message would be loud and clear, Football is for the fans not greedy fuk!n parasites.

Indignant Hicks pulls plug on Dubai's bid for minority stake

Andy Hunter
Tuesday March 11, 2008
The Guardian

Dubai International Capital's attempt to purchase a minority stake in Liverpool was thrown into turmoil last night when Tom Hicks, the club's co-owner, terminated talks and vetoed the sale of George Gillett's holding to the company.

Hicks and DIC hit deadlock over their possible working relationship on the first day of negotiations between lawyers representing the Liverpool co-chairman and company officials in Dubai. The investment arm of the Dubai government had indicated a willingness to back down on intentions to acquire complete control by purchasing 49% of the club from Gillett and would, providing the American agreed to sell his remaining 1% to his co-owner, let Hicks become majority owner.

Article continues
However, the Texan, angered by weekend reports saying DIC would accept 49% as a means to an eventual takeover, has blocked that avenue. It is believed Hicks sees no way back for DIC but, despite making no comment last night, it has not given up hope of striking a deal with Gillett. Its lawyers are investigating the legality of Hicks' veto on any sale to a third party.

In a statement, Hicks said: "Based on a meeting held earlier today in Dubai between my representatives and officials of Dubai International Capital, as well as other recent contacts between us and them, I have decided to terminate any further discussions with DIC regarding their possible purchase of a minority stake in Kop [Holdings] and, in turn, in the club.

"DIC made it clear that if they invested in the club, they would want it to be managed by committee. Based on my 13 years of successful experience as an owner of professional sports teams, and based in particular on the situation at Liverpool Football Club over the past year, it is clear such a committee approach would not be in the best interest of Kop, of the club or of the club's loyal supporters. Accordingly, I have decided to exercise my right under the Kop Football (Holdings) Limited partnership agreement to veto any sale of any portion of Kop and the club to DIC."

The statement continued: "I and my colleagues and representatives will continue to explore a number of other options with regard to the ownership of Kop and the club aimed at achieving an appropriate ownership, financial and organisational structure over the long term."

The fresh uncertainty is an unwanted distraction for Rafael Benítez before tonight's Champions League second leg against Internazionale at San Siro. Liverpool hold a 2-0 lead as they try to reach the quarter-finals and the manager's preparations have been complicated by Xabi Alonso's absence. He stayed on Merseyside yesterday for the birth of his first child and had hoped to travel once the baby arrived. But it had not come by the time of his press conference at San Siro, and Benítez said there was no place for him in the team. "I cannot wait, wait, wait," he said.

Liverpool’s co-owner Tom Hicks on Monday night threw the future of the club back into turmoil by terminating discussions with the Dubai royal family.

In a shock move, the Texan business tycoon broke off talks with Dubai International Capital (DIC), who had been confident of sewing up a deal to buy out 49% of co-owner George Gillett’s 50% stake.

Hicks had to give the go-ahead for that move – but instead he has exercised his right of veto, saying he was unwilling to manage the club with DIC “by committee”.

DIC said they had no comment to make, but sources close to the deal believe Hicks’ statement does not necessarily mean the end of the story and the investment arm of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, could yet clinch a stake in the club.

Hicks’ statement read: “Based on a meeting held earlier today in Dubai between my representatives and officials of Dubai International Capital LLC, as well as other recent contacts between us and them, I have decided to terminate any further discussions with DIC regarding their possible purchase of a minority stake in Kop and, in turn, in the club.

“DIC made it clear that if they invested in the club, they would want it to be managed by committee.

“Based on my 13 years of successful experience as an owner of professional sports teams, and based in particular on the situation at Liverpool Football Club over the past year, it is clear to me that such a committee approach would not be in the best interest of Kop, of the club or of the club’s loyal and passionate supporters.

“Accordingly, I have decided to exercise my right under the Kop Football (Holdings) Limited partnership agreement to veto any sale of any portion of Kop and the club to DIC.”

Hicks added there were other alternatives to pursue.

He said: “I and my colleagues and representatives will continue to explore a number of other options with regard to the ownership of Kop and the club aimed at achieving an appropriate ownership, financial and organisational structure for Kop and the club over the long term.”

The only chance of a deal being rekindled is if Hicks’ statement is merely an attempt to force DIC and Gillett to accept his terms.

A DIC spokesman said only: “We have no comment to make.”

Either way, the relationship between the parties appears to have broken down - something that could be a problem if they were to be co-owners of the club in the future.

As far as Liverpool are concerned however, it is back to square one with Hicks and Gillett at loggerheads – even more so now the Texan has vetoed the sale - and there are only 17 months until the £350million loan the Americans took out in January has to be refinanced again.

Furthermore, another loan of around £300million will have to be taken out to finance the building of the new stadium at Stanley Park.

This adds a little more meat to my earlier comments that Hicks is between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

The moment that you have DIC making public comments about the whole thing is when they have really thrown in the towel.

I still think that this is one last ditch attempt to bump the price up before he bails.

Continuing to demonstrate will scare off many potential investors. We must continue to show our disapproval at matches and wherever and not let up. I actually feel despite all the bravado Hicks is struggling.

How dare he say what's good for the us, and 13 years of successful ownership not 13 years of successful teams. If he's so experienced then surely the night before a massive game away in italy is not the best time to go making another one of his Yankie doodle dandy statements.

It was my understanding that the initial deal to buy Liverpool FC was reported to be £470 million, this comprised of - £175 million to buy out the share holders and purchase the club, £45 million of club debt and £215 million for the new stadium proposed for Stanley Park.

Now although 50 odd million has been spent on transfers that still leaves over £150 million towards the stadium. The refinancing is to reduce the interest payments in the short term. So this £30 million annual interest will go down, albeit over a longer period of time.

So what next, what other options is Hicks referring to? Why the hell would he break this kind of story right before the most important game of our season to date? Im starting to think Hicks is a Man Utd fan in disguise.  :(

When will people realise no amount of protests or online petitions will make the slightest difference at all. These people are working with millions of pounds here. Do you really think the actions of fans will sway their minds. Only something drastic like not going to anyv more games will make a statement but even then that would have a negative effect on the players and before long you would have players wanting to leave.

Talk all you want yady yady yaaaaaa

But at the end of the way we may be stuck with these guys.

If by boycotting games now Liverpool gets knocked out of the champions league and finishes 5th then it is a very bad idea indeed and might well lead to this supposed apocalypse of the club. We need to get behind the team and show them our love. Hicks doesn't care at all about what us the fans think or do, if we are to really hurt him then we should instead wait and boycott the first 10 games of next season, that would really send a strong message to him!
Personally I think this is posturing from Hicks and I expect him to sell up as well, he must realise that without support from Gillett which he is clearly not getting then he is fecked in the long term and there must be some sort of get out clause for Gillett allowing him to take the matter to arbitration to decide whether or not he can sell, and who would refuse a multi billion company like DIC to buy the 50% from Gillett. Just wait untill the credit crunch and recession really starts to bite in the USA, Hicks will be desperate to sell, as I imagine Gillett is at the moment.
I would still like to see Moores and Gillett come out publicly and say that they want DIC to be allowed to buy Gillett's shares, THAT would send a massively strong FU message to Hicks!! Moores and Gillett owe us that, otherwise they are both scumbags of the highest order.

Why oh why on the eve of an important match?

I feel this question needs a topic of its own, it makes no sense what so ever only to distrupt things further, why is the owner of a football club behaving like this?

Say what you want about the Glazers but since they took over the manc they have never carried on the way this greedy b@stard is behaving.

He is enemy number one and he is making us hate him more with each passing day.

He said in his 13 years experience of running his sports institutes he knows these things wont work.

Well Mr Hicks in my 30 odd years of being a Liverpool and football fan Ive never known any behave like you.

Isnt having a committee running a football club better than having no fu.cker running the club and staying over the otherside of the Atlantic for all but 4 games a season.
G & H own the club but neither are running it properly.

How dare DIC wanting to run a buissness properly how  dare they.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Kenny Dalglish 1/2/2011

REST IN PEACE PHIL, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
